@@WildAmbience They are invasive here in Florida. I’ve had a dozens in my heavily populated neighborhood! The Tokays would jump on the window quite obnoxiously in the middle of the night and call right next to my head lol Managed to catch a few individuals which are still healthy and grow very large even in such a different environment! Really incredible ability to adapt! And I have witnessed some of the native snakes or raptors preying upon them. All within my small backyard on the opposite side of the planet from their native range.
Hi @Glen Bagz, and where is your neighbourhood? Why I am asking, we are collecting these advertisement calls of Tokays to reveal variation in their vocalization in relation to their geographical distribution and environmental factors within the citizen science project Geckording - will be happy for these sounds from your region - please check the website: geckording.eu/
@@Dynotop1a Hello, really nice observations! Have you heard Tokays call throughout the year in all months troughout the year? Will be happy for the recordings, please check our CS project.
We have a ton of these where I life in the Philippines, the coloration on them is amazing whenever we hear one we always try to find them. Amazing creatures!
This is the signature sound of Southeast Asia. Probably one of the few reptiles that have a loud enough voice to create a soundscape. I would like to keep a pair of them to listen to them. Unfortunately they need a lot of space if you have more than one.
It’s nice to hear them among the noises of the Tokay Gecko’s natural environment! The ones I know of in Florida make a surprisingly diverse range of calls and even seemingly “communicate” with the birds from time to time. They’re super fascinating!
I was just reading about them in Florida when researching for the text on the video. Yes, it's nice to hear them in their natural environment in the tropical rainforest at night.
Well it was a giant F-U if you wanted to sleep.... And as Hanoi Hannah said; don't invade Vietnam boys, but doubt most of you were there because you wanted.
I had one of these living in my bedroom in Key West,my bedroom was built around a living avocado tree 3 feet in cross section. I called it the fukk you gecko.
Finally found what these geckos are called. Lol went to thailand in 2013 and heard one. Didn't know what it was. My uncles over there had one around their house somewhere.
I have one of these living in the metal beams in my house. I heard the call at sunset regularly but couldn't work out what it was. Finally saw it running along the walls last night.
One lives in house...but I have never seen that.. but it always call in 3 or 6 times. It recognize my voice... it will call when I am around & I like this unseen geco..
They lived very peaceful in our house. They dont disturb anyone. We had one.. My uncle's house there were almost 20. Literally every wall had tokays.. Its believed to be lucky in Myanmar..
not sure what you mean that they don't disturb anyone. I am on samal island on a resort. It rained in the night. At 3 in the morning, I suddenly hear a loud call knowing that there is some insect on the other bed. Searching frantically for half hour, found it behind our curtain at the wall. The call was so loud, it was scary, almost like a call to mark his turf.
I remember I was in South East Asia in 2017 and me and my bf thought it was a broken power house or something and after that we thought it was a bird😂😂😩 until we spotted one in Thailand above the door of the hotel room last december and after 6 years the mystery was finally solved😂😂
Not cute when your trying to sleep and it wakes you every hour. Had one of these in a Bali Villa I was staying at. The staff ended up moving me to another Villa.
I live in the urbanized Jakarta metro area, never heard them. But i often hear this sound at my boarding school in Bogor. I wish i could visit it again. These "geckos" are VERY shy. I heard them often and saw them only once.
I have one of these geckos living on the side of my house lol, I hear him croaking every night lol😂
Where do you live?
This sounds friiiightens me everytime. Now I finally know its a gecko
Thought it was a cat purring or smth
Heard these calls several times in my neighborhood. They're relatively common in my country. Sometimes they stray inside my house.
Yes, they seem to survive quite well in urban environments. They love moths and other insects attracted to lights around homes and buildings!

Love their voice especially the young ones :DD
Decided to listen to this after listening to the Pod Meets World episode from yesterday, and I'm cracking up! 😂😂😂
Danielle making the sound has been my favourite part of the entire podcast so far, I was dying laughing at her!
I'm also here for that reason

When you find them do you ever want or try to touch them? Mine was an angry little guy and would leave you packing home a nub if you weren't lucky.
@@parkerf08 😂😂
@@parkerf08That's because Tokay geckos are very territorial and are known to be aggressive they can bite you very badly

Are they invasive in Florida?
@@RazorX860 yes
@@sierrabird2460 Probably an accurate translation too!
the fact that such a loud sound is produced by a freaking lizard is insane
Love the sounds they make
Your logo kinda sus girl lol
In the Vietnam era soldiers called it the F-U lizard, because of its call.
Hahaha that's so hilarious, I do hear it 😂
I can't unhear it now 💀
I was there and remember it.
Well it was a giant F-U if you wanted to sleep.... And as Hanoi Hannah said; don't invade Vietnam boys, but doubt most of you were there because you wanted.
Appropriate considering the attitude Tokays have
I remember living with thse for 4 years and loved how these things would make sounds often.
I’m in Bali now and just heard this echoing off the walls so I dunno where it’s hiding
Lol i went bali two months ago and all i could hear in my villa was the gecko. I didnt expect it to make such a loud noise though
Live in Bali and hear them all the time. Love their voice 🦎

Love hearing these. Just got back 2 days ago samui. Didn’t hear that many this time. Was gutted
I have a room ful of those guys and its so calming its like playing pokemon
Thats good noise for a traffic light
Some of them are naughty and tell you "F - you".
That's what I first heard lol
@@Enderustu they got nicknamed the fu lizard by American soldiers during Vietnam
Kinda biased cause I'm a reptiles , particularly lizard guy, but this has to be a top 3 coolest animal noise of EVERY species of animals.
For my whole life I've been hearing these fellas going "TOKAY, TOKAY!" in the neighbourhood but dunno where they live
These little critters were the sound of my childhood from where i used to live. They're called "Tuko" in my home province
if someone never seen them or know about them they would mistake them for birds based on the sounds they make
i have been hearing this for months and i have always thought it was a bird or maybe a rooster??
It makes sense, birds and reptiles are very closely related. Actually birds are just an offshoot of reptiles.
They remind me of yoshi 😂
SO CUTE
Aww it’s so cute
Nature's squeaky toys
I'm in thailand, Koh Jum rn. There are 3 of them around my bungalow, they sound all night.❤
So cute!
Now I want to go back to Thailand 🇹🇭😭❤️

Thanks for sharing Tokek sound..
How do they make sounds?! If I heard that I would think it’s a bird!
We call them 'Hawk keng'😂
Probably because they really sound like that
Who else is here because of pod meets world???
It sounds like a baby half sleep trying to keep sucking the bottle of milk and finally falling asleep
i heard this call while playing nico's testing (cooler version) last night. scared me a litle bit
very nice tokay
The Tokay gecko is one of my favorite geckos besides the Chinese leopard gecko with a dead leaf gecko
At first, it sounded like a bird until the To-kay sound.
Gorgeous!
I think that they sound like they are saying "geck-oh", not "to-Kay"...
Here in philippines we call them Tu-ko
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!
😂😂😂 i love this sound..you have good luck if you here it. So Sweet animals🙏😎🖖🤩
I’m from Italy and at first I thought they were birds when I was in Vietnam.
Bloody kept me awake 4 nights in Bali
