  • Hello everyone and welcome to another video from Heavy Mining Equipment. The largest single fleet of intact Euclid trucks has been standing in the same place for over 30 years. Eight days ago, I was on the road trip and stumbled upon these old beauties. Then, I returned after a few days to the same place and discovered more sleeping beauties. I asked the locals about the story behind these machines, and they told me an interesting tale. Watch the video to find out more.

1:20 look like an Italian Perlini T15 but the front part seams modified, the logo is Perlini. Perlini is an Italian constructor that starts in the '50 with mods on other brands trucks than enter the dumper market in the '60. In the front light you can read "carello" an other Italian brand that mke lamps from 1876. They were common when I was young.

I bet if some of those GM/Detroit V-12's aren't locked up they'd run again! Bruce from Austrailia got a Wabco haul truck running with a
V-12 in it. Those and a Euclid/Euc/Terex were close kin. I drove an R-35 Euc with a V-12 and a 22 with a 6-71. The 35 had a 6-speed Allison auto and the 22 had a 4 speed. The D-6 was probably a 6-C and the 8 was a J series with glow plug start. The 8H I ran was pony motor start. The rubber tired dozer was an R G LeTourneau out of Texas and Georgia. Look him up online. HUGE stuff! His old stuff was all electric with flywheel generators and electric motors to power everything. Almost all Detroit powered. Mostly cable operated with electric powered winches with brake packs on the motors that had to have power to turn the motors loose to turn stuff. Toggle switch steering. Wabco used the flywheel generator setup and electric motors on some of their paddle pans/elevating scrapers. The 992 was NICE! I ran an 988 some and a 980 a lot. Fine loaders. They had a Kawasaki 115 Z-iv that was the size of an 88 that'd lift 18tons at a time, every time. Cummins powered. That was GOOD video so Thanks Much! This is what I did for 55 years. Still would if could. CHEERS!

5:03 zigzag pattern of gearbox lever prevent you from too fast gear change u and down. Since there was a selector shaft in gearbox which is rotated one section at a time (it means one speed up or down) by two solenoid valves, you physically could not change gear e.g. 6->2, you must do sequence 6>5>4>3>2. every time when solenoid is activated for about 2 seconds, you get a speed change one up or down (depends which solenoid is activated), next activation next speed and so on. there was also a selector shaft position sensor also. i'm not sure as in Terex, but in CAT machines in case of failure of a lever you could unscrew a plug, push in a 3/8" drive with t-bar and change speeds manually by rotating it when sitting on gearbox. An ancient limp home mode :)

It’s a shame that all that equipment was parked while in apparent good working order. Looks like there is (was) plenty of life left in most of them. Now it would be a long slog to get them operational again. Nice video nevertheless. Thanks for posting.

It’s nice to see all that equipment is still pretty much like it was when parked. If that were here, some id10t would have busted the windows out and spray painted graffiti on everything.
