  • I'm back working on the 1976 Corvette Project!! It's been a very long time but I've finally gotten enough inspiration and motivation to get working on the car again. I'm working on shaping a custom rear bumper cover/tail light panel to make a form that I can pull a mold from and make a fiberglass part. I love the look of the older C3 cars much better than the late C3's so that's what I'm going for.
I've also removed all of the interior, the windshield, then removed the front clip and firewall in order to access the entire front of the birdcage to fix all the rust.
Stay tuned for more work on this project!
All music from the UA-cam Audio Library.

Amazing work! I have the same rust issues in my 1976 Corvette and will be doing the same exact process. Thank you for showing me the way!!!

It is nice to have something other than crappy rock music playing for a pleasant change.

Excellent work and video skills. I grew up in the 80s and c3 corvettes were very common then so much that they didn't have anything really special that often like you are attempting. At my age now I feel they kept the true muscle slash road track car look and appeal going on as the same look over the decades much like the Porsche and Ferrari body style did all those years. It made them icons and fully recognized as what they were by little kids to even old grannies. Your craftsmanship is a dying skill and even some times a lonely frustrating haul that I know all too well. Keep it up as you deserve the views to come in time as you complete this build! 👍

Thanks for the support! Yeah the body lines and style of the C3s have always been some of my favorite, especially the earlier year cars.

I am trying the exact same thing on my 79. Love the older c3 tail light bumper area. There's a company that makes them but it's like a grand. I've been designing one like you are doing for awhile now. I'd love to see when it's done.

Nice! There's a few people on the forums that have done the conversion. I've finished the mold and just laid up the fiberglass part so stay tuned for more videos on it.

Using wooded shims is another way to split Vette body panels apart.

May I ask where you ordered the replacement tail light panel? That would help me alot.

I bought my tail lamp panel and the lower exhaust valence panel from Zip Corvette. I think the part numbers are F-606 and F-605.

This is awesome ! I’ve been thinking of doing something similar to my 76. I am assuming you had to modify the tailing mounting brackets and stuff before putting on the new bumper?
    Thanks!

      Tail light*

Thanks! I didn’t modify the frame at all. I have obviously removed all of the aluminum and rubber crash bumper structure that was underneath the factory rubber bumper cover. I’m thinking of trying to add some of that back in if I have room. We’ll see.
The bumper cover I made will be fiberglassed directly to the body of the car rather than bolting on like the factory piece did.
As far as the tail lights themselves go, factory tail lights and mounting hardware should work with the panel I made but I’m planning to make custom lights eventually.
Check out Part 33 for the mold making and layup of the taillight panel if you haven’t already

Other than cutting that top section of the front nose near the windshield, did it crack anywhere? Pretty sure that front nose clip is made up from 3 or 4 pieces in the factory.

It cracked in a few spots but nothing I can’t fix during body work. It really came off pretty easy
