Machine Learning is not easy, especially if you are a “self-taught” machine learning engineer. But that’s exactly what I did. In this video, I’m going to talk about 5 important steps you can take in order to become a self-taught machine learning engineer.
1. Understand & Own your way of learning: Understand that machine learning is not easy. I know - shocking right? But that shouldn’t stop you. I started out with the mindset that I would master machine learning after completing a single course. Oh, how wrong I was. Realistically I soon realized that I would learn in increments, I would personally count gaining even 10% understanding from a single course as an achievement. And my understanding will improve over time from various recourses, like books, reading popular research papers, and doing projects.
2. Focus on problems NOT tools. If you spend too much time trying to find the best language or the best tool, you will waste time instead of focusing on what is more important. Learning problem framing is essential when it comes to working as a machine learning engineer.
3. Take ADVANTAGE of your existing domain knowledge. If you are already working in a certain field but want to shift to machine learning, take ADVANTAGE of your existing domain knowledge. Find a problem in your industry and try solving it with machine learning.
4. Believe in yourself. I know you might be watching this video as some sort of validation, and that is fine. But the most important thing to realize is that you don't need me or someone else to tell you that you can learn machine learning. You need to start telling yourself that.
5. Continuous learning.

All those who don't know. This is a clickbait. She is not self-taught in anyway. She completed a Bachelors degree in Computer Science with a focus in Data Engineering. She later went for a Masters in Computer Science with a focus on Machine Learning. I actually became curious when she avoided mentioning what she Majored in in University. A quick google search revealed the obvious. When people talk about a self-taught machine learning engineer/ researcher, they are talking about someone who never received any college training in the field of Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics. I have seen this a lot people claiming they are self-taught in Machine learning whilst having a PhD in Statistics. That is not self taught. I think you get what I mean. It is intellectual dishonesty to claim you are self taught whilst holding a Masters in Computer Science.
Thank you. Unfortunately, there has been a rise of many self-proclaimed tech experts sucking money out of unassuming freshers.
I agree .You spoke off the reality
unsubscribed. 😂
That is true. I checked her LinkedIn information. Thank for pointing it out, bro! Great job!
Although you mentioned your degree wasn't directly relevant to ML, realistically, do you believe you would have landed the same roles without a degree in Computer Science?
I am so new to all this and quite frankly most of which seems overwhelming. Despite feeling as overwhelmed as I do, it's so interesting. I can't stop watching, and the more I watch, the more compelled I feel to go ahead and make my transition from the commercial transportation industry. Your dialogue to your approach to learning and analysation of your pace is certainly immersive. Thanks, it helps a lot!
Thank you for your comment and I wish you luck in your learning! It’s intimidating but trust me it gets better :)
How is it going ten months later? And is your username related to the great Charles Spurgeon?
Thank you for these words Queen.
Thank you so much have been waiting for this for so long
Thank you, this is really interesting
It is a very useful video. Everyone can become a good machine learning engineer. Now I can more easily convince friends to become machine learning expert.
Thank You for this video it really helped.
Thanks for this video it helped me. Although ML engineer isn't my main career path way it's a back up for me.
Will you continue 100 days of ML series? I would love it if you did so..!!
Yes please ☺️
Well done 👍
take love from Bangladesh, kolan
I really understood a lot, from this video
Thanks Smitha, nice tips. I'm begginning the roadmap to learn ML. Did you share the Google course link? Regards from Mexico.
🤩Plsss Continue 100 days of ML playlist , itsss really a great Help 💝
Different people might have diff definitions. To me this sounds more like data scientist than ML engineer as MLE is typically more tool/algo/platform oriented than business problem oriented.
If AI and ML is going to make software engineers obsolete (take over their jobs), then does it still make sense for existing engineers to learn ML/AI ?
Can you do more videos? Also do more for beginners. could do like an hour video that is a great solid roadmap for beginner learners, including prerequisite learning, for people with little or zero technical background, that would be awesome!!!
She is not self-taught at all. She has a bachelors and masters in Computer Science.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have no idea about research papers how shud i make my own research papers pls guide
Will there be any advantage doing MS in Machine Learning specialization? Or just project experience good enough to have a good job?
Please continue 100daysofML
Cool video, I’m a little late though. Subscribed 😍
When She speak ... i LOVE MACHINE LEARNING 🤗🤗🤗
can you give me a suggestion please. I want to pursue AI and ML. But before that I think of becoming a front end web developer , to have a part- time/freelance job for paying my expenses. Will there be a problem , that my web-designing work that i will do daily, will affect my AI and ML learning journey ?
This is really useful. I am a aspiring ML engineer. Can you explain how they made OpenAI and stable diffusion. How can I make a small project like that??
What was said? I was looking for a framework, not the "believe in yourself" schtick.
We cannot learn ML by focusing only on tools, but we can't DO ML without mastering the tools !! So we need both - rigorous theory underlying the ML concepts including the mathematical focmulation of the problems, and the tools that implement these. One problem with tools is that they abstract away some of the most important concepts and still give you a feeling of the "expert", but that's a "one trick pony" kind of expertise and will only lead you into blind alleys.
So can you give some advice for a beginner how to start learning machine learning. What is the right approach.
The fact that you put this out here for free without telling anyone to go to your free master web seminar and charging 15k is amazing! Am so overwhelmed how people try to take advantage of people because they are not disciplined enough to do their research. Thank you so much and I cant wait to start with the roadmap you kept out there for free. May God bless you sister!
I heard someone saying differential calculus is also important to know in AI/ML is that true?
Yep, it's true
“Don’t ask permission! “ You got a new subscriber for this point❤

I get into Data Science Because I Choose my master thesis in Machine Learning, thanks for the informative video smitha
What’s the difference between Data science and Machine Learning, please?
@@favourolanipekun4297 ML is a sub topic of data science
@@heepaa5183 yeah, but according to some sources its also apparently a sub topic of data science
Helloo madam Kolan, I am Ngum Dieudonne a student as the African leadership University, studying software engineering
I want to do machine learning but i do not have any guidance or mentor to help me through the process.
PLease could you help mentor me please i really want to be one of the best machine learning engineer and i know that can not be possible without help and direction, close mentorship from expects that you.
Ahh, I see you learn like me. 10% "ok I think I understand that." and 90% "wtf".
So true 😂
please continue your ml course. plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz lol and have a good day !🙃
👍🏼👍🏼🍻🍻
Is there anyway to message you mail or WTS, Please ❤
Seriously only 10% takeaway from a course ???
She's been realistic a lot take out nothing from a course
👋🖐👋😊👍
BS in CS is not starting from scratch.
She has a masters in Computer Science.
Damn..girl you're beautiful😍
