    Thank you so much for your content, after making knives a couple years I have a lot of respect for makers who grind freehand, especially without texturing on the blade to hide grind lines.

      It’s not actually freehand grinding when any type of jig is used.

      Free hand grinding…. You actually have to eyeball where each of your grind lines go… the plunge, to the tip… to the same height on each side. I’m not knocking anyone’s process of getting the job done, but most new knife makers, and people wanting to get started in the craft, would be totally in awe watching an old school knife maker grinding a blade with nothing more than a single/full speed 2x72 grinder and his hands.

    You can't talk too much if you're doing an informative video. I'm glad to see someone else grind bevel down I thought I was the only one. I can't even take a leak left handed more or less grind a bevel😂 great video lm glad to see you making more

    Love the new shop.. I’m just starting to try to free hand grind. I’ve used a jig with good results but I’ve always wanted to do one free hand start to finish. You look very comfortable doing free hand. With your comment about still having to focus and pay attention even after all the knives you have free handed makes me realize that I’ve got a lot to learn still.     Great info. It helped me realize I am on the right path and that it is my 1x30 costing me most of my time. The more passes you have to take the easier it is to be off I guess. Once I upgrade to a 2x72 my bevels will be done in less passes and should start to look cleaner at the transition to flat. Also thanks for reminding to just put on a new belt already!

    Great video! Jerry Hossom told me he grinds edge down, or rather finishes with edge down to actually see the bevel line, course that is a different grind altogether, I've tried edge up . . . it's so so, someone once told me "One snow flake don't make a blizzard" so gonna keep trying it! Love the grind progression discussion! I learned beveling from Mike Stuart of Ekim knives videos and then practice/ practice!

    Matt i just realiazed your in your new shop huge congrats it looks amazing im jelous i have a 10x20 building that is totally full lol thank you for the awesome grinding tips im having problems keeping the edge the same thickness at choil and tip always thicker so i need to adjust my pressure a little more then? what do you recommend final thickness on your average hunting knife thickness prior to secondary bevel?     I'm just learning... I've been experimenting with edge trailing and edge leading. I find myself more confident edge trailing and seem to be getting more consistent bevel. Not sure because I'm just learning to ancor my arms and finding my comfortable stance in front of the grinder... is one better?

      Edge up you get a cleaver bevel with less belt slap on the top line

    When you're pulling the knife across the belt, do you keep the knife horizontal the whole time, or do you tilt the handle upwards when you are getting closer to the tip? I hope that made sense.

    Says he made 98 of them at one minute.... says he has ground a MILLION of them at 5 minutes. WHAT IS IT?!?!? HUH?!?!? 98 or A MILLION!?!?!? ;)
