George Steinbrenner once said "Good Day" to me once and I replied: "Well, I wish I could say the same, but I must say, with all due respect, I find it very hard to see the logic behind some of the moves you have made with this fine organization. In the past twenty years you have caused myself, and the city of New York, a good deal of distress, as we have watched you take our beloved Yankees and reduced them to a laughing stock, all for the glorification of your massive ego!"

DiMaggio played before the era of free agency and big money contracts. Many players had jobs outside of baseball to make ends meet

In The Bronx Is Burning series, DiMaggio visits Reggie in the clubhouse before a WS game and tells Reggie that he’s a part of the great players that have made the Yankees so sucessful. Did that really happen? I like to think it did.

Being Mr. October probably gets you some leeway, plus I'm guessing he was competent at whatever role he had, as Steinbrenner would have eventually either fired him or sent him out to scout little leaguers if he wasn't.

Crystal is also a braindead liberal, so it would stand to reason that he would favor the black player. Musical and Ted Williams both felt that DiMaggio was the best player ever to play the game. When did Billy Crystals's opinion of an athlete become any more valid than any other civilian's.

@@ngazin he came into the corp office of a famous designer. I worked there and word got out he was in the building. Me and my boss went down to meet him. Just a few people were around. My boss asked him to sign something and you could see he was pissed but he reluctantly signed. I’m standing there and I say to myself ok just say hello and don’t ask for anything. So I say, “Hi Mr. Jackson I’m a huge fan” while extending my hand for him to shake. He looks at me and my hand. Doesn’t say a word and does not extend his hand. I’m standing there not sure what to do so awkwardly I just put my hand down and stand for a few seconds before slinking away. The few people gathered there just left after that because no one wanted to be embarrassed by him after seeing what he just did. Seems like a minor thing but made me rethink being a fan of anyone really, especially him.
