    I bought my 2016 Audi TT coupe in August the first day they were released here in Nova Scotia Canada. I traded the second generation TT, so what influenced my decision you ask?
    External design is important because it puts a smile on your face whenever you park it and walk away from it. Driving dynamics puts a smile on your face when you are ripping through canyons, or in my case winding coastal roads. But my main reason for staying with TT was the clean interior design with usable tech.
    The TT coupe is practical (for only two people) with a generous cargo area with the rear seats folded, and Quattro traction in the current snow covered Canadian environment, once I installed a set of Michelin X-Ice 3 winter tires.
    The novelty of the virtual cockpit wore off in a month or so, but the 17-function steering wheel controls, including a user programmable button, and the touch pad control continue to satisfy me.
    My TT has every option available, but I wish I had waited for the TTS. 220 HP is a step down from the 250 HP in my previous TT which was equipped with the 3.2 V6.

      Good to hear, I'm not sure what the weather is like in Nova Scotia, but it has been well below freezing for that past few days in Michigan.

      +Bailey Smith Below freezing as well, with four snowstorms since New Year, next one coming Saturday. I park at night in a garage. Last winter my 08 TT passenger side window seized and the window motor cable assembly had to be replaced at over $1k.

    I've been looking forward to a Motoman review of the new TT. Excited to hear your impressions. I am just days away from walking into my local dealer and ordering a TTS after an exhaustive research period which included the C 450 AMG and others. This car will ultimately win me on a combination of style, interior tech and every day performance. I needed to transition from a two seater, my current car is a BMW Z4, and the TTS is my choice by being the only car in this price range with so much quality and performance in a 2+2 format.

    1. Performance 2. Interior. I am inside the car and I want to enjoy it. To me, the first part of the joy comes from the performance. If the performance is not there, nothing else matters. Interior can complete the experience. I drive 2009 Jetta, 2011 Tiguan, and 2016 GTI and I live in North America.

    Since you claim that you really know user experience and I really care about user experience, I downloaded your App. Overall, great job! The thing I most appreciate is the integration of various platforms, such as Instagram and Blogger. And it's not simply pulling data together. You do tweak it very well in terms of formatting and presentation. With that, I would suggest one tiny thing to improve: change the "Back" icon. The icon you pick looks like a "Play" button on a music app. And you put it in center, which again resembles all the music apps that always put a triangle at the center bottom. You might want to put it at the left bottom or left top, a place where all users have been well-trained to tap when they want to go back to the previous page. Good job and keep it!

    Interior Design. I'm an industrial design engineer, I own an Audi S1. It's a nice modest looking car externally, it performs extremely well. But on the interior, Audi do really blow the competition out of the water. They have really looked into great detail the small, subtle yet quirky interactions that we have with a car. I particularly love the aluminium machined dials, obviously brought across from the TT and into the S1 line.

    I'm more a technology guy and I used to want electric or hybrid cars but I ended up in '15 A3 2.0T and I love it. So glad I didn't go for the greener cars since gasoline prices have falling to the point of those gas drought scares of the late 2000s seem like a joke...and looking back they were. Investors overvaluing oil and damn near destroyed our economy 7 years ago. Hopefully systems are in place to prevent this from ever happening again. Oils prices are down, food prices are going back down, and cars are getting a lot more stylish even the ecomony cars have stepped up their game to give Luxury brands a run for their money.

    Performance, looks and interior are all significant to the ownership experience in my opinion. Got to have the intuitive interior to extract performance, and the looks for curb appeal and your own satisfaction.

    Hi, I drive an Audi A7 272 diesel here in the UK, it's not my first Audi it's my 3rd and the reason I like them is because everything just works, they are reliable and because I do a lot or my miles I want something solid, something with comfy seats, great stereo and air con. I think if I wanted better handling then BMW or Mercedes might have got the nod, I think the Audis ride is top end of the firm scale but as a package of all the things it does and a big slice of style I can't fault the car

    hi motoman, i recently started watching your video, and reaaly enjoy them, specially your indebt knowledge on tech and design. I normally choose a car on either practicality when it comes to family use, and how it drives for my personal enjoyment. I am Dutch and live in London, UK. we have 4 cars currently: mini cooper r56 auto. loads of issues with chain tensioner, dont like the slush box and the runflat tyres are awful, but my wife loves and it looks cool. a range rover vogue 4.4 v8 l322 2002 for the family, love that car, all tehc is x5. a bmw e39 m5, my main car which has costs me a fortune to restore, and a porsche 944 lux 2.5 1987 which is slowly turing into my track day car. keep up the good work, loving it!

    While it doesn't trump a cars looks or performance, the car's UI did directly influenced my decision to buy a 2016 Golf GTI instead the 2015 model because of the improvements offered by the MIB2 infotainment system (namely a bigger/higher res screen and the inclusion of Android Auto/Carplay and of course a USB port)

  • @d1pz9
    @d1pz9 8 років тому

    Performance is a priority, not sheer speed and acceleration but everything about the way the car drives, then there has to be a combination of both the looks and the interior and that comes 2nd. I'm driving a 95 Accord ES 2.0, i'm not working with performance or looks and interior there but it's my first car and i enjoy it. Im from Macedonia, south-east Europe. Anyway i digress i dig this new TT and the RS is gonna be a monster

    All 3 of course! I love the "virtual cockpit" and Audi design in general, especially the interiors. I only wish Audi made something that drove more like the M2 (e.g. Clubsport concept). I've had 4 Audi's, but currently in a Hot-rodded Beetle Turbo and likely to get the M2 next year, but I digress ;)

  • @MBisFrenchy
    @MBisFrenchy 8 років тому

    1 Safety, 2 Interior Tech, External Design. I have tried the Virtual Cockpit at a Audi Dealership and had the same response after looking at a MB and BMW. Virtual cockpit after playing around with it felt most intuitive except if I were to get a TT I think the passenger would have a hard time as they can't control anything or see where we are going easily. I like the implementation better on the 2017 A4 where you have both MMI and optional Virtual Cockpit meaning 2 screens. For stand alone MMI vs I Drive vs Mercedes Command I prefer BMW I drive though. Really dislike Acura's two screen setup which is a bit slow and Lexus the mouse.

    I chose based on a combination of all of the reasons you gave plus utility. It has to be suitable for my needs, suit my perceived position and, in my eyes, have nice lines. I currently drive a Porsche Macan S Diesel in Western Europe. This kind of fails in the user interface department.

    Hi Motoman, I'm glad you like this car. I picked up a new TTS with the Virtual Cockpit about three weeks ago (to my knowledge I'm the only person in my state with one). You seem to have picked up on the VC quicker than I did, it took me about an hour to use it all proficiently. I chose this car in part for its performance, which is great for what it is. I also appreciate that fact that it's practical for a sports car, which makes getting my stuff to and from school pretty easy. The VC is nice, particularly with the sports layout of the gauges. Another thing I love this car for was the design, both outside and inside. It's a lot less (for lack of a better word) cute than its predecessor without being too flashy or down right gaudy. The way the entire interior sweeps toward me while I'm driving is just awesome, and I agree it'll be the sports car interior for the ages. The materials in there are great too, I think the play between the matte aluminum and black and grey leather is simply stunning in person. This is all well and good, but what really sold the car to me was the Quattro, a necessity of life here in Michigan. In the three weeks I've had this car we've had some pretty serious snow and this thing feels so well planted and unshakeable without feeling too firm or harsh on the horrendous road surfaces. In my short time with this thing I have noticed a few quirks, like I can't open the trunk while the car is on, and the motors that raise and lower the mirrors are frozen solid. This just adds to the character of the car.

    I always liked the TT, the signature slopping roof, short proportions, flared fenders, shoulder line, the fuel cap (can't believe I thought it was real all this time! I feel cheated lol, but I digress), the dual pipes, big wheels & the wide stance form a very unique & distinctive design… however, I'm not sure about the new front end… it just feels … uhhh I don't know… bbblllllaaahh (for the lack of a better term)
    I like the interior design a lot (needs more color though) , the integrated HVAC units\vents, switches, steering wheel & center console are very cool! Even the door panels have a cool slopping line! & I'm glad they didn't stick an iPad-like screen on it… but Audi really should stop putting the QUATTRO badge on the dashboards… its annoying & in the x6/7/8 it ruins a nice piece of wood.
    As for the Virtual Cockpit, other manufacturers should take notes, that's how you do Digital Gauges (I'll save the rest for later)!
    As for what I look for in a car, I suppose I can I break it down to 40% interior design, 30% performance & 30% exterior design.
    I can live with a decent performer, maybe even a slow car (but no 4-cylinders) since speed cameras are everywhere in Jeddah & can't push it without getting into trouble (I once got an $80 ticket for going 91 on a 90 road). & while exterior design very important (we are frustrated designers after all ;) ) I can't live with an ugly or grey interior… I just can't look at it every day … I just can't.

    Speaking of mobile applications, did you ever think about porting your app to the Windows ecosystem? Microsoft have this Project Islandwood thing that converts an iOS app into Windows Universal App that works on Windows 10 phones, tablets, PCs, Xbox, HoloLens & IOT with minimal change to the code … (& it will even work with Continuum!)
    They launched a website that analyzes your app & tells you which parts of the code you can use.
    There are over 200 million Windows 10 pcs & growing today … that's a lot of potential users!
    As for the Developer Account fees, its single time $20 fee & that's it.

    Why so down on Audi?
    I have had MB (CLK and E class) and Acura (MDX and TL) and now have an Audi S5 and A6
    Even if the S5 interior is getting a bit dated it's still very comfortable and has a great power train. The A6 is not as sporty, but compared to others in the class still holds up well. 2.5 years and almost no issues
    Yes MB is starting to up their game- but still not the most powerful engines.
    You have to cut Audi a break, I still think among the 3 German brands you get the best deal with Audi. Especially with a few option unlike BMW that make you get tons.
