Is there an episode where they explain who Ilian and Bearn are? I love listening to their adventures but I don’t know what episode they first appeared in.

I have to imagine that the reason their home is called the finger home is because they use touch to recognize each other, it could be that they carve their caverns with some sort of designs that they'd feel and recognize as home.

It's Diggy with some Realms knowledge for the people. Already brought this up over in the discord for the guys. But I figured I'd put it up here for the folks on youtube. There isn't a type of Grimlock settlement or abode called a "finger home." Instead, it's a regional cavern complex in the Forgotten Realms in the Underdark of Faerun called Fingerhome. These next few excerpts come from the 3e/3/5e era Forgotten Realms sourcebook simply called Underdark (great sourcebook btw one of my favourites):
"Many wild grimlocks are born in an extended series of caves that they call Fingerhome. These caverns extend throughout the upper, middle, and lower Underdark."
"Grimlocks native to the Underdark who are not slaves of others live in large clans or tribes consisting of hundreds of individuals, usually based in the cavern complex known as Fingerhome."
"The grimlocks long ago laid claim to the cavern complex called Fingerhome. Within it, the village of Reeshov is a good example of a community of free grimlocks, as is the Cavern of Cloven Heads, which is home to the twisted descendants of the Golden Eagle and Red Pony Uthgardt tribes."

I assumed Grimlock were the same as Wells’ Moorlocks fighting Rod Taylor in the 1960s ‘Time Machine’ film. Thanks!

Finger home reminds me of Jim Carrey in the office when he says he needs to get back to his family at the finger lakes 😂

Amazing episode as always guys. I think it would be cool to have a Grimlock with a powerful magic weapon like a Flame tongue or Frost brand. It would be a good opportunity for roleplaying as the PC's try to figure out how such a low difficulty mob enemy got a weapon of that caliber. It could also serve as an interesting Underdark miniboss if you bumped up it's HP, gave it a higher AC, upped it's intelligence, charisma and constitution, and maybe even gave it a few spells. It could command groups of other Grimlocks and also heal them or cast magic missiles at the PC's.

In 3.5, they only had a CR of 1 or 2. I find that odd considering they have a level adjust +2 if you want to p!at one. I noticed nearly everybody never understood the level adjustment system for powerful races correctly, often leading to player characters that ate massively over powered but not because the rules were off balance, because most people never understood how level adjustments work.

Move aside orcs, goblins, lizardmen, hobgoblins, drow, and bandits! No one uses Grimmies.
I too forgot about troglodytes. lol

I think the justification for Grimlocks (and by extension, Drow) being such low CR is both to make the Underdark more accessible to lower level PCs, but also to make the monster easily upgradable.
If you onow how the formulas work in 5e, you can see that a lot of the base humanoid monsters are essentially different flavors of player races with some innate abilities and racial proficiencies The math for stats, HP, AC, damage, and skills adds up the same way. This makes it easy to just tack on stuff like class levels and armor.
Goblins as an example: take on a level of fighter to a goblin and suddenly it has an extra d10 hit die and extra proficiencies.

I've spread your D&D fart meme. Hilarious that fans get it, but the owners of D&D wouldn't get it.
