I live here and in person its unbelievable. Everyone is in shock. Our hearts and minds have never really experienced anything quite this scale of demise. There are also huge conifers trees down everywhere. Our neighbors down the road had a tree crush their home and some are in the hospital. Roads are blocked by landslides and trees. Many are isolated with no way out.
This is climate change and it will not get better. This is just the beginning.

I'm so sorry for your losses. Yes these events are the consequences of burning millions of years of photosynthesis in less than a lifetime.

Oh my goodness their home was crushed by a tree I'm sure they loved. That is so damn sad. I'm watching a lot of videos of the damage and cannot take it all in. I can only imagine how the shock you describe must be in person. Cannot believe we are still arguing for climate protections in our own government. What a ridiculous state of things.

Didn't you hear the guy? Once in a century, maybe bi-century event. Just because YOU haven't experienced it doesn't mean it hasn't happened before. This isn't the beginning of anything. It's just the continuation of what's been happening for millenia but now that it's affected you, it's the end of the world! Get over it. 🤣

This area sees tidal flooding on regular basis. This one was bigger and badder than recent past but not unusual. The hillside behind those beach homes has been sliding for decades.

True, I lived in Santa Cruz from 91-2001. From Santa Cruz to Watsonville, I lived all over that area, seemed to move once a year, lol. Was on Trinity next to beach flats for the 94/5 season. All these flooded areas are near sea level down in the river and creek outflows. One year there were some huge boulders thrown up onto West Cliff by the surf, bigger than what I have seen from this one. All the usual flood prone areas are under water and spring tides. No big surprise, this was just a really big one.

I lived near the Boardwalk and Boulder Ck in 1976-80. The winter of 77-78 was Far past this event. There was wood 5 feet deep from the harbor to the boardwalk. Sand was a good 20ft deep, it easily cover that cone rock near the natural bridge at the river mouth. Over 13ft of rain that year. The Capitola Esplanade, where I lived in 1976, had 2ft water. But the pier didn't smash into everything. 1983 and 1994? were impressive too.

Climate change didn't exist back then so it wasn't as news worthy. As usual, the news networks need a sell. Thanks for sharing the memory.

Read and think this if you believe in karma:
The consequences of excessive killing karma form the factors of natural disasters and man-made disasters. Or earthquakes, or tsunamis, or extreme cold, or extreme heat. Even when the wind does not adjust and the rain does not go smoothly, it is common for the country to be in trouble and the people to be uneasy. Also, people who are blind, deaf, and dumb all have too much killing karma in the past. After death, they will fall into hell to suffer, and then turn into hungry ghosts, animals, and human beings. Although you are a human being in this life, it is the result of incompleteness of the six faculties. - Venerable Master Hsuan Hua
