There's an Arab saying, "The dogs bark, the caravan moves on..." You're on a journey, there will be more rain (no tornadoes or baseball sized hail 😉), more Sids, more fresh pastries, more ferry rides (awesome pilots!). Stay in the moment, keep the memories and your fans. 🖖

All that mistletoe and no one to kiss!😂 Hang in there Tim between the rain and the knees I know it can get to you. Still pretty darn beautiful!

It did get a bit much but both knees and weather have now improved so still going strong here on day 26 😉👍

Well done Tim, another great ride. I think the jet on display at the Speyer museum is a MiG 23, probably ex-East German air force. I'm hoping to get out on my KMX "Tornado F16" a bit more this year, your regular posts are just the inspiration I need!

Great watch again. Hopefully the weather has improved. Thanks for showing us the panniers, good to get ideas and see the pro’s and con’s of this design. Must admit, they do look good. Keep on triking 👍

Sad that Ortlieb discontinued them 🤷‍♂️
I guess there weren't enough recumbent riders to make them pay.

Germersheim, that is where SPEZI was held until a few years ago. Always wanted to visit it some day. Now they moved to an other location much further away from home.
Nice move on the water of the ferry.😊
Take care with the knees. You will need them still for a long time.

You know I thought I recognised that name but wasn't sure. Yes, I think they moved it further south now.

Hello Tim, Interesting seeing your baggage arrangement. My trike has a 20" rear wheel and I have 2 Ortlieb Classic panniers plus an Ortlieb rack pack. All completely waterproof. All in yellow for maximum visibility. With one of the panniers I use a set of stacked zip bags to separate everything quite neatly. All worked just fine on the Camino last month. Looking forward to the rest of your journey.

What I forgot to point bout is that I use a selection of dry bags inside these to separate my gear and make things easier to store and find.
Without those bags I'd be lost.

☹ Sorry about your knees Tim. Hope you can nurse them back from being painful.

Nice setup Tim! But yeah those rear panniers don't look too good for storing anything you want quick access to during riding, only your nighttime tent and gear and stuff. Did you ever consider installing a top rack on the back? I had a laptopbag on the rear rack as well as a sleeping mat on there, but I guess that's only if you want to go longhauling in places like Africa maybe 😅

A rack pack or anything else on the top of my panniers doesn't work on my trike unfortunately.
The rear wheel suspension setup is such that it bounces up and down in that same space as a rack pack would be.
Inside the panniers I found using different colour dry bags keeps things sorted for me a little better.

the only advantage of a extra compartment is you know where it's at but before you can get to it still need to take the rest out

    • @TimsTrikeTrips
      @TimsTrikeTrips  2 місяці тому

Yup, I guess that's true. I separate my gear in different coloured dry bags so I can usually put my hands on what I need fairly easily.

Hi Tim, I had knee pain which came on after a few miles on every ride. Went to physio and was told that, that was my limit and I should stop. I told him that I lead 20 mile rides and needed to continue. After trying leg exercises to help. I told him that I rode a recumbent trike and he suggested that I move the boom in slightly, So I pulled the boom back one inch. Which felt a little cramped but the pain went and never returned (so far)

Thanks for sharing Paul! I've been mostly ok with the knees since... until yesterday (day 27). Don't know why it suddenly returned. But yes, I might try adjusting the boom if it keeps happening 👍

Do you track your rides with Strava or some other app like that so a person could follow you and potentially even save your routes? If so who are you on the app? Also that way a person can follow you “live” vs the past and enjoy both views.

I record everything on Komoot and "Ride with GPS". I use two apps in case one fails (has already happened twice).
I'm currently working on a map of my travels so keep an eye out for that in the coming days.
