Engine 10 + Ladder 1 Seattle Fire Department
- Heavy snow fall in Seattle causing traffic problems and minor accidents. Seattle has lots of steep hills which became inaccessible for Seattle fire units. The decision was taken to mount snow chains on all of the rigs when all of a sudden a call came in. Engine and Ladder of station 10 were dispatched to a MED7 medical call together with a medic unit. A MED7 means that at least 7 persons need to be on the scene and usually it would be a CPR in progress //

That SUV at 1:03 has made my night
But the back wheels are still turning, so does that mean the 4WD is working?
Alex Rodriguez nothing to do with drivetrain, simply locked up his front brakes as most vehicles rely primarily on the bigger front brakes
The drivers and tillermen handled that situation. While Seattle is noted for rain, it is a confluence zone where it can snow hard. The main danger for these trucks and most of western WA is black ice. You cannot see it until you're moving sideways on it. Can't walk on it either. We're pretty proud of Medic 1too. Seattle is the best city in the country for heart attack survival
I love that fire house. Looks amazing and modern.
That sure looks beautiful with all of that heavy snow coming down & the pretty firetruck lights , it's beginning too look a lot like Christmas , thanks for this catch my friend ! 👍😃🚒🚒
Love the dual drive axles on the tiller.
Funny seeing Engine 10 with its front tires turned but still going straight. Gotta give em credit driving the rigs though city traffic and crap weather
Seattle is sketchy af in the snow. I can’t imagine having to maneuver a tiller around here in the snow.
Cant get enough of those motorola sirens, love it.
That looks awesome in the blizzard! What a cool video ;)
Lovely rigs.
Nauders tirol brand
That's hardly a blizzard!! That's more like a moderate snow fall at best!!
That's the first time I have ever seen a Tiller Ladder Truck with Tandems on the Tractor, very interesting....
Columbus, Ohio has tandem tractors. TDA's.
Tiller Operator Level: Expert
LOVE THAT SPECTRA!!!! JUST LIKE LAFD!
Snow is the last thing you want in seattle! That whole town turns into a parkinglot!
Unless you are on a hill, then... ua-cam.com/video/rhZCyQ3emQg/v-deo.html
love how all the cars passing the station was sliding
In response to traction devices, The engine and ladder pulling out of the station have a device called on spots. It's a little wheel that rides inside of the rear dual tire, it throws a length of chain under the tire and gives it traction
Great video Dirk. Thanks for posting it!
I know that stopping on ice might be hard, but never have i failed in doing that.
No way in hell would I be a tillerman in weather conditions/road conditions like that haha
I couldn't help but laugh at 1:02. "Oh don't mind me! Just makin my way downtown!"
Wow awesome video! I have been in the tiller bucket of that rig and visit seattle frequently. More videos from here plz
They are also regarded as some of the most maneuverable fire trucks available, especially for the cities.
That and on the tiller, the rear wheels can be locked together in a 4x4 configuration with equal power to all 4 drive wheels.
@mlps93
I know what you mean mlps93. If it's icy with snow on the roads, the snow could be covering some black ice. Do you by any chance know what black ice is? If not, black ice forms on the road, and especially on bridges, as bridges usually ice over first. If you're not careful during the winter on possibly icy roads, you could end up slipping on those slippery roads. I'm lucky that my dad's car has traction control, which comes in handy in slippery spots, wherever they are!
I like it how in this video, every car passing by doesn't have riding weels like it's normal x)
Rotators looking nice too but LED's are much better visible :)
I will presume that the decision to locate that station house where it is was based on the information and insight that I am admittedly without. It appears to be a beautiful facility, housing first class equipment and what I’m sure are very skilled and capable firefighters and medics. I cannot help but wonder how someone can put the same building atop a hill and in a hole. But, if anyone can accommodate the challenge it’s a firefighter.
i feel like a tiller is the last truck I would wana drive in the snow.
Snow snow snow is that place a Summer destination
MUCH better in summer! Snow is very rare though... thankfully with our hills! ua-cam.com/video/rhZCyQ3emQg/v-deo.html
Even roads in front of station are slick
Eeryone was sliding. Engine 10 in the first clip slid forward with the steer tires turned all the way to the right. Couldn't be fun being the tiller driver in this. Pucker factor for him was probably off the scale.
I want to live here so bad. I'm tired of the hot weather in Florida. The most snow I've seen was a couple inches :/
I love that echo 😍❤ of the siren
Excellent! Love the cars skidding past.
Gmc yukon don't mind me just sliding past. That is a cool tiller with dual axles for the drive wheels.
especially on the hills in seattle.... that would hell.
Ladder 10 is a very nice truck
+Ronicish YOU MEAN ENGINE 10
Pete Williams Yes I mean Ladder 10 is very nice.
@johnsmithy667 true, there aren't many tools on our Aerial Ladders: we have our pumps, water tanks, tools and ground ladders on the Engines. Since we often respond in convoys of 2 Engines and 1 Aerial (and some more vehicles) the ladder doesn't have to carry that much. Our 'empty' room under the ladder is used to extend the ladder also to a level below the truck (e.g. in harbors, ditches etc.)
You should see what happens when it snows in Las Vegas!
1:00 epic :D
Love those Whelen lightbars on fire trucks :)
I’m watching emergency right now where they have Seattle fire department engine 10 and ladder 1
most are 2-4 apparatus, but it differs from department to department
@DerFoxelhuber Yes, some stations have 1 or 2 trucks since the stations in the US are more spread out.
when i went to seattle i saw a lot of fire engines go by the hotel
Yes I have. I an Finnish after all. Our winters are from -20 to -30 Celsius or -4 to -22 Fahrenheit, so yes I have some experience with driving on snow and ice
engine, ladder, aid car, haz-mat, air bottling unit, staff chief, and reserve haz-mat
That blue jeep tho while were waiting for the ladder truck to come out slowly skidding down the road lol
that was a gmc Yukon not a jeep
That's the biggest longest fire truck I ever seen. They should have those in cities like New York or LA.
@wwwrescue911de
A tandem axle tractor on a tillered aerial helps distribute the weight on the truck evenly between tractor and trailer, and I never knew Seattle would have one!
Wait a minute...SNOW...in SEATTLE...???
What sirens do the Seattle fire department use?
I love Seattle
its nice to see some Seattle vids i hope to see some more especially with the weather we are having
Make your way to Everett Washington! .. Conditions are very bad here and EFD is slammed!
brilliantgenius1 The tiller has chains on the tires and I am guessing the other trucks have them also or on demand chains. Pretty standard...
snow chains or at least spikes?
what air horn does seattle FD use
what a great video.
im so glad i dont have to deal with snow down here in fl.
Is it a bad thing when the tiller driver passes the tractor on the right?
Looks slicker than goose shit on a door knob.
Reminds me of Atlanta when it snows
7 Personen inklusive Drehleiter für eine HLW? Ach du Schande!?
i love those doors
@kurtdog119
what do you mean?
This is Motorola Spectra siren?
1:49 Let’s gooo
weather is amazing. wish i was getting that here. nice response
0:58 ist einfach nur epic fail :D
🤣🤣🤣🤣 i didnt noticed that
They just need a Unimog!
there were two engine 10
Wow your camera has great audio pick-up.. and looks good too
We Need Some Snow Here In NC
come up to Erie we are due for 2ft+ snow most snow drifts up here are 4ft-6ft
lol that car just slid right on down
So do the vehicles have big treads? I can't imagine how the tiller was making it so easy...
That storm was a pain. First 14" of snow, then 1/4" of ice and the power was out for like 2 days...BLEH!.
Full chains on the drive wheels
what air horns are they using
Snow and firetrucks don't mix he kept sliding till he got grip on the front tires.
@wwwrescue911de
Actually, Seattle is a town full of cliques. It's just like high school all over again. And they get as much, if not more rain than Florida.
Sorry, but you are wrong about rain in Seattle. Seattle, Washington, gets 37 inches of rain per year. The US average is 39. Snowfall is 5 inches. The average US city gets 26 inches of snow per year. Florida gets 54 inches of rain on average. In the summertime, we rarely have rain. www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KSEA/2017/7/21/MonthlyHistory.html?req_city=&req_state=&req_statename=&reqdb.zip=&reqdb.magic=&reqdb.wmo=
Run officer run!!!!!!!
How many trucks are in this station?!
1:48👀
the us have so beautiful "einsatzwagen"
@wwwrescue911de
I know what you mean with the German, Dirk. Since you probably aren't from America, and you probably learned English on your travels, the only way you can communicate with people back in Germany is through German (Deutsch). I especially love that Pierce tiller Seattle Ladder 1 runs.
HAHAH 1:02 xDD I'm a fuckin gangsta xD
they trucks don't have 4x4 or 6x6 propulsion?
Motorola sirens sound better then the EQ2b
Only in Seattel the tillers have 2 axels o the rigs....
What's the point of having Federals on your truck if you're not gonna use them. Breaks my heart.
front tire locked up at 1:03 on passing vec ?
I feel like I agree with you....
