    I member in one of my groups on Facebook was having a problem with a file he purchased on Etsy. He asked what he should do about it. I told him I would need to see the file to identify the problem(s) with the file. he sent it to me and this a video on me figuring out why another Etsy file wouldn't work with Lightburn. That is what I do for folks.

    For Those funky tabs with the little dimple poking out, I’ve seen another video somewhere that explained they did theirs like that to accommodate different material thicknesses because they didn’t use lightburn and couldn’t resize slots and tabs. Also the gaps in the cut lines might have been their attempt to place cut tabs for a flat pack sale maybe.

      The person that bought this was told by the seller it was Lightburn ready. And they had no idea why the buyer was struggling.

    A good advert for Etsy - what a disappointment! Pay for a file, the least you expect is for it too "be fit for purpose". Good tutorial. Thank you.

      These problems and several more exist with most of the files on Etsy.

      @@HoboWithWood I don't think most of these people actually use their files, they just sell them.

    I've purchased some of those "5 to 10 layers all dropped on top of each other" files, took hours to separate them out and get all tabs ect onto the proper layers. Not sure if it's an issue with the file type or if it was an issue with Lightburn. I doubt the person who created the files sent them out like that but when you have files that were created years ago for other versions of other software there is a lot of room for those files to be interpreted differently across platforms. Anyway, yes, this video helps solve a lot of issues when resizing for wood thickness. Thanks

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  3 місяці тому +1

      It's not an issue with Lightburn. But there are so many different design programs being used to create projects that are not a Lightburn friendly. I've never used it myself, but a lot of the files I fix are originally designed in Adobe Illustrator.

    Another way I check to see if paths are closed is to set it to fill and see if it fills.

      I actually am showing that in tomorrow's video. That is one way to know that you have created a closed shape when drawing with the pencil tool.

    Sometimes purchasing files from Etsy you need to watch out for DXF files, and this could be a DXF file, Maybe it has been converted to ai (Adobe Illustrator) but,it's still has the same openings.When purchasing files from Etsy always chose ai files...Most of the time good sellers will give you choices ai,cdr,dxf etc...Also there is an easier way to close paths other than one by one like shown in this video.If you are a newbie to lightburn and laser engraving I suggest you follow the method shown in this video...Voila!

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  3 місяці тому

      It's been my experience .AI files have more to correct than any other. I am constantly telling folks there are many ways to accomplish things in Lightburn. Multiple ways to achieve the same desired result. I try not to confuse folks by showing too many different things in the same video. Personally, if I'm using Lightburn to control my laser and I'm buying files, I'd ask the seller if the GUARANTEE the files to be Lightburn friendly. A money back guarantee. If they won't do that, I wouldn't buy the files. You can import many different file types into Lightburn, but that doesn't mean they are a clean and ready to use file.

    How do you like the camera in LightBurn? Is it more hassle than help?

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  3 місяці тому +1

      I use the camera primarily to aid in positioning designs on my "skeletons," AKA scrap wood. I still use the laser to check with the framing before sending the job. The camera is a great tool. But I don't depend on it.

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  3 місяці тому

      Maybe not so much. But if they haven't used their files in Lightburn they shouldn't tell buyers it will work in Lightburn. Folks who have never used Lightburn assuming their design will work in Lightburn.

      @@HoboWithWood I have asked sent questions to some of these sellers and I don't believe they even used some of the files they are selling. Kind of hard to answer questions if you never used the file??

    • @HoboWithWood
      @HoboWithWood  3 місяці тому +1

      I believe you are correct. This is why I have photos of every project I sell. I do not post images of SVG's of my designs. I design only in Lightburn and test every design before posting it on my site.
