Nature's Boldest Thieves
Seagulls and other animals are learning to adapt to the urban environment and steal from humans. They're crafty, courageous, and coming for your food. No longer afraid of humans, seagulls have moved in to live amongst, and steal from us. They have adapted perfectly to life in the world's growing cities, and are terrorising anyone that comes between them and their food.
Welcome to BBC EARTH! The world is an amazing place full of stories, beauty and natural wonder. Here you'll find 50 years worth of entertaining and thought-provoking natural history content. Dramatic, rare, and exclusive, nature doesn't get more exciting than this.

Thank you BBC for the slightly horrific close up of the inside of a gull's mouth.
ikr! haha
Yeah, that was quite unnerving
But also really interesting - I've never seen the inside of a gull's mouth before, and i had no idea they had all those tiny hooks in there to help force food down
Now I can't unsee it 😱 it was hell
😂
Agree weird to see all the jaggy skin parts similar to to teeth in there.

This has to be the best part of any documentary, interesting and hilarious
killbotone . You are right that there is no reason for her to be “testing” what gulls would do. I agree that this isn’t what a documentary should be on, they SHOULD focus on natural occurring phenomena. Though I do disagree that there was no point for her to do this. This clip may have been used to just fill time, I personally have no clue, but if I had to rate this clip against many others. I’d have to say this is one of the most entertaining clips I’ve seen, and it garners my interest in what it would be like to have my food snatched in the first place. It captures me in its ridiculous premise, and delivers on it. It’s purpose was to entertain, that was its only real purpose. I agree that this doesn’t belong in a serious documentary. Maybe the documentary it’s from isn’t a serious one. Maybe it’s not from a documentary. Maybe it’s just a funny clip they wanted to include because they thought it was funny. I and others certainly did, and I hope that everyone does. It’s pretty funny to watch her get her sandwich snatched away.
@@xanderkirk7872 I thoroughly enjoyed this myself!! xx
0:46 is not only funny, it's worthy of Hitchcock
@@xanderkirk7872 lllllllll
how many sandwiches do you want?
Seagull: *yes*
I lived in Seattle for years, and this is the main reason I laughed at Out of Towners, who wanted to eat out on the patio or at a picnic table, especially on the Seattle Waterfront. Seagulls are bold as brass, SHAMELESS thieves.
they're like around niagara falls & lake erie too. plus in Williamsburg, VA oh god the squirrels. they're everywhere. i once threw a tiny bit of a chocolate walnut bar. they swarmed onto it like sharks to blood.
I would do the same for a free meal!! ;-)
In the gulls defense, she was holding it up and still, as if saying to the gulls, here it is, come and get it! So they did!
Beach scenes are synonymous with the gull sounds...
Same problem here in Strömstad Sweden on the westcoast. But here the mostly take sausages and burgers...🤣
Seagulls: So Humans.... How does it feel about other species getting over populated and encroaching your living habitat.
i don't mind i like these Birds
@@furryface1057 correction we love these Birbs
Sea gulls invaded our habitat though.
@@antman5474 Just like we invade the habitats of other species, exactly.

That mouth tho
Yeah, watching seagulls yawn is simultaneously hilarious and terrifying at the same time
That's my new wallpaper

Damn,That sandwich has only been out a couple of seconds and they already creepin 0:46
I love Creeper Gull 😂
That shit is hilarious lol
😂😂😂
I love seagulls - they’re basically the reason I go to St. Ives - endless entertainment 🤣
Why aren’t these gulls arrested and charged? The Local police work is terrible. 👮
@Insane ha ha!
They’re too busy putting people in jail for mean tweets
ua-cam.com/video/14QQkBLqVwk/v-deo.html
Here's what happens if you call up about it.
It's good for business, people just buy more food. That means more money spent + more taxes paid = more salary hikes for the police.
Hi i
I’m glad I’m watching this, I can never forget walking down the beach at around 10 years old holding a sandwich and then a gull swooped down and just took it out of my hands, very cleanly! I’ll never forget it 😂
I love these seagulls so much 😂
Me too! Ok they can be obnoxious. But I have some on my deck, and the literally talk to each other in this hilarious murmuring way. So funny.
Btw seagull eating whole body of rabbit, rat or even duck and small duck
@@idgafazz806 They are top predators but still beautiful and intellgent creatures.
Same they can be ruthless predators and thieves but they are beautiful crafty birds who at times can even be adorable and friendly. I can't help feeling happy when I see them and hear them sing I'm even be willing to share my sandwidges with them just to watch them enjoy themselves.
ua-cam.com/video/x-yjBPR41Ac/v-deo.html
Person with sandwich:- My sandwitch
Seagulls:- Our sandwich
You typed sandwich 3 times and spelled it correctly only twice. That's as fascinating as it is bonkers.
@@TonyEnglandUK he tried
Adorable rogues. I once saw one snatch a pork pie from a guy just as he was about to bite into it.
Lmao. 🤣
There's one on here snatching an ice cream out of a woman's hand just as she's about to take her first lick . I love how much seagulls don't care what people were going to do with food, they had other ideas.
Same problem here in Strömstad on Swedish westcoast. But here they mostly take sausages and burgers...😂
Keep food close to your chest when you aren’t eating it, the gills are very unlikely to try for food if they have 180 degrees or less to move in and out from.
It reminded me of the Alfred Hitchcock classic «The birds» 😲
apperently he added echo sound effects to gull sounds to make them more sinister
One of my fondest beach memories is watching a big shoobie with 2 large cups of fries from the fry shack. One seagull went for him and as a natural reaction he threw his hand up but also the tray and the cups as well. The fries flew everywhere. It was great.
I remember when I had a nice fish and chips lunch on the seaside in Brighton , and I went to use the lavatory and I left my food unattended , and when I went back all the food gone 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They finished everything on the plate and I paid the bill
paid
I'll bet they'll eat them and say: "devine"
"shut up bitch" 🤣i had to come here to see if there was any steven comments
2:10 The face of death itself. Terrifying.
0:46 when ur mum comes home carrying a bag of groceries/fast food
Seeing the way seagulls and other predatory birds behave, it starts to make sense why they're direct descendants of the dinosaurs.
It would be far more correct to say: they are dinosaurs, not only descendants. You are descendant of humans but you are also a human.
That is not "why" they are direct descendants of dinosaurs. They actually did evolve from dinosaurs. The way their mouths look did not cause them to be related.
There was this one time when I was on a school field trip and it was our lunch. When we started to eat three seagulls just came in and started to rushing towards us like they were yelling and robbing us for our food
Oh, they LOVE school field trips 🎉.
2:14 is the stuff of nightmares!!!
Seagulls also use sentry positions on high places to keep a lookout for food and people they know will feed em like me and also tell the others when you're coming
The hill peaking over the wall is like "eyes on target".
Gulls are fearless and pretty smart. In The Netherlands they used to always nest in the dunes close to the beach and sea. But foxes prey on nests of seagulls for the eggs. Gulls migrated further in land and took over rooftops of flats and houses.
They also ransack garbage bags if you leave them outside. They adapted incredibly well to city life.
God bless those hungry birdies! ❤️
Love gulls. They can has my sammich any time.
I was on the Jersey shore and I saw this Seagull went in a beach bag and took out a “Subway” sandwich and took off. The people around me were just as stun as I was. When the guy came back to his blanket and my daughter told the fellow what happen he didn’t believe her then other people came over . One of them got it on his phone. The man face was priceless. Beware of those birds.
Its easy to forgive a crime, when thiefs are cute birbs

Well what does she expect she is holding it out for the gull to see. That’s called temptation. 😂
I used to feed fish to seals, which you're not supposed to do but I did at the time, and one of these guys snatched the fish right out of my hand as I was going to make the toss.
I knew this other seagull that would bang on my balcony window, knowing full well I'd come out and feed him if he made enough noise.
But before you go accusing seagulls of being smart, I also saw one try to eat a cactus I owned. Don't underestimate the gulls. Modern day pterodactyls. Only smaller.
In the netherlands we also have these terror seagulls and terror ducks
0:46 😂
Right
i used to live in florida. and hess gas station used to sell slices of pizza. and this guy came out with a couple slices of pizza in his hand and he was walking down the sidewalk. i was only about 20 feet behind him. And all of a sudden I see this seagull swooped down from behind us and snatched a piece of his pizza right out of his hand without him seeing it coming lol I was thinking "what the hell just happened" he was pissed
Seagulls: *Sees humans eating/standing around with food still in hand after one measly second like a couple of daft noobs.*
Seagulls : Ya'll human's eat waaaaaaaaaaay too slow, and got all the food in the world....so, ya' snooze, ya loose!
*Snatch!*
2:10 Proof that dinosaurs still roam the Earth.
to be honest it's kinda funny to me, I grew up on the shore and seagulls would knock cups of fries out of people's hands, typically tourist though
I love seagulls. So they take our food, but we take a lot more fish from the sea which is their food. Seagulls are so adorable, the seagull living on my roof even answers to his name! He is so cute! So many people dislike seagulls but I really see the beauty in them. I don't care if this comment gets loads of dislikes, I just wanted to say that I love seagulls and am proud to say it.
BTW my profile pic is of my seagull.
Those birds are catching these hands if they get near my sandwich
A .22 would take care of that problem real quick.
I love that 🐦 birds looks so cute and really impressive skills*😁😂😂
1:07 *cue Jaws theme*
The attempt on my life has left me scarred and deformed
I thought pigeons were rats of the sky?
You take their entire habitat, and feel mad when they take your Sandwich..
Ehh not really. Seagulls don't have trees or specific grounds where they nest. They're completely adaptable to their environments and DO know how to hunt fish but much prefer humans around since they have food and trash laying around that's edible and will go out of their way to find us for it
I was talking about entire wildlife in general
I think it's funny I'd prolly try and get mugged by them just for fun 🤣
2:10... nightmare fuel
At the beginning all the seagulls were like, “omae wa mou shindeiru”
😂
Imagine the warning signs! Don't eat in public! :D It's dangerous. hahaha
I would love to feed them ☺️ and see how much they involve themselves in a feeding frenzy
The Seagull's here in Sunderland are huge - honestly some of the biggest i've ever seen. I had fish and chips the other day - they were angling, co-ordinating from the rooftops to swoop down - luckily they didn't as I kept looking at them - gulls are not stupid - they know when you know ....
ps- watching Hitchcock's 'The Birds' right now
Anyone else see the thumbnail and just immediately assume it was a feeding Steven video?
That's some really cool reporting, nice job!
I LOVE SEAGULLS!
😂😂😂😂 Brats! Spying.. I about lost it 😂😂😂
I'd have the sandwich in one hand and a fist ready with my other hand lol
I thought the same. I will punch them hahaha
So we meet again, Seagull.
I remember you from the ferry building in San Francisco
You were lucky that one time. Well, you won't this time.
Seagul: *Sees sandwich*
Seagul: *hippity hoppity your shit is now my property*
Steven before the easier times.
That clip at 0:44 of the seagull peering over the roof 🤣
Seagullhood! Love them..
smart and beautiful birds
Are there no Fish in the sea? Hitchcock's film.
They literally eat everything and shouting every night soo i cant sleep in summer :)) but i love them
Yeah. Yeah. Seagulls. But who is the reporter doing the video? Speaks clearly. Gives info that is helpful. And is extremely attractive.
Rats of the sky 😂😂😂
Pigeons: Are we a joke to u
The same thing happened to me on a beach in Jupiter Florida. A seagull grabbed my whole sandwich.
Me: *Opens pack of gum*

Thank you BBC ! I love bird !
Too many humans on this planet- leave the gulls be, we are the real vermin.
Prawn sandwich sure sounded like something else😂
Planet of the gulls ..
I like seagulls, they're cute.
Amazing creatures smart should be kept on protect species. They're birds not rats.
excatly , if you live by the sea! expect gulls . we build over there land there just trying to survive.
Give them wasabi it's their kryptonite.
Every problem can be converted into an opportunity.I would be curious to know what a gull burger would taste like.
Seagulls are ruthless. They be snatching food faster than females getting they weaves snatched.
I work on a pier, this is part of everyday work, they're aggressive and people are passive.
It would be such an appropriate place if they ever decide to remake the movie "Birds"
That's not a seagull. That's a thiefgull.
Oh how bold of her to have a prawn sandwich
Not the gulls fault ..Daft people have fed chips etc for a year or so and the message gets round ( and they have no internet ) The trouble makers are as ever humans ... Here in Berlin we have a resident huge flock of gulls even though nowhere near the sea .Words has got round Places to live and plenty to eat .......
I went UK for a vacation and I see seagull is stealing big slice of Pizza 😅
They’re so big 😂 I feed one everyday and he scares the others away.
Clever girl.
Me and the gulls snatching some food
Seagulls have eaten food I was trying to eat.
i have a lot of seagulls in my south TX city but they are not brazen enough to steal food from my hands. although if anyone ever throws food on the sidewalk or on the street when they are present, they definitely fly to the food and gobble it up.
Baseball bat (lol)
They will learn
Love the birds
0:46 I see you !!!
My twin niece's love the story of the seagull stealing my Cornish pasty :o) I love St Ives
