The land register in Scotland will not register a square foot of land in Scotland because it’s too small, so in theory ‘your land’ could be ‘sold’ many times over. Many of these companies are registered offshore to avoid paying tax in Scotland. Also ‘Laird’ is just an old ‘courtesy title’ for the local landowner which is no longer used.
The goal here is to participate in the preservation of the fauna and flora of this region of Scotland. There is some false information in this video, but it's very clear on the website of this organization. For the Offshore side, indeed on their website they say they are in Guernsey so not great for the local taxes of Scotland. After that it's just fun, it's not expensive, it's a support to the conservation of the natural heritage of Scotland.
@@euchchinge6800 As a Scottish person trust me it's very insulting and cringey. Americans really do think they own everything. Also, they don't even own the land, the company that sold you it does, buying a square of land here makes you a lord by no definition whatsoever
You are confusing the terms lord and laird. Lord is a heriditary title, meaning one of the aristocracy, laird just means landowner, in the context of an estate with tenanted farmland.
I.e being a landlord... its pretty much the same thing. Most of these companies are based in East Asia as well. If you wanted to do some good then just donate the money locally or hell help restore the actual native Caledonian forest in Scotland.

And you might want to know you cld get real land and land with a renovating property in highlands .Along with a gov loan .
To be the true owner of land in Scotland, you must have your title to the land registered. You cannot legally register a souvenir plot (Land Registration etc (Scotland) Act 2012, section 22); therefore, you cannot ever be the owner of the land. You cannot be conferred with a title of Lord or Lady simply by owning land. Laird is a courtesy title that is a generic name given to a person who owns a large Scottish estate that is long established; you're not a laid simply by virtue of owning land. Peerages, which come with the title Lord or Lady, are conferred by the Queen, now usually always under the Life Peerages Act 1958 on the recommendation of the Government. It's all a bit of fun, but people who buy these neither own land in Scotland nor have a real title.
I was wondering, who is the authority that officially recognizes that you are a Lord or Lady? Does it have to be the Scottish government? Or how does that work?
@@jordanchou It can get quite complicated, but at its core unless the Monarch granted one of your relatives a hereditary peerage (i.e. one that passes from generation to generation) and you have inherited it or has granted you a peerage for your life under the Life Peerages Act 1958 you are not a peer (some peerages come with rights for children, e.g. the daughter of an Earl will be called Lady). Outside of members of the Royal Family, hereditary peerages are no longer conferred and so essentially, in 2022, unless you are a member of the Royal Family the only way to get a peerage is to be nominated for one under the Life Peerages Act.
If you purchase a plot of land in Scotland which is considered a souvenir plot, you are never the legal owner of the land. The only way you can legally obtain land is when it is registered in the Scottish Land Register and the Register will not recognise such plots and they will not be registered. It is a scam. Similarly the obtaining of a title in this way.
@@tomascunha7825 it's in the "observations" section of your passport. That is if you get a *REAL* title, of course, which is not the case here in this video (or in any other similar structure that does this).
