informative video on the sony A9 III
Thanks for watching!
The Holy Grail of photography is a high dynamic range BSI CMOS sensor with a readout speed of 1ms or below. Not a low dynamic range low resolution global sensor.
Or a high dynamic range BSI global sensor with at least “medium” resolution.
No dual iso and no mention of dynamic range from sony, it may not be the best choice for video work. Looking forward to global shutter for fx3ii and fx6ii
We need to wait for some more controlled tests to know the answers really.
Yes absolutely. I'd love to see this sensor come to the cinema line if the dynamic range performance is good.
Is it true that the base ISO for S-Log3 shooting is 2000? I heard that somewhere and it sounded weird.
Yes that’s true.
Can’t wait for Premier League photographers to use this camera
My 10 year old Blackmagic Design Production Camera 4K has a global shutter.
Yes, that camera had some other problems of its own though sadly.
this has been the holy grail for the longest time
Global Shutter?
Yes, I think we are on the edge of a big step towards it in camera technology
Helo, thank you for the indepth videos. Please help guide me on the best ssd drive and nvme drive i can buy for the ursa 12k and pocket 6k pro. Slightly off topic but please help.
Minus the potential concern of lower dynamic range, this is a true step above from Sony.
It was so hard to make any judgements on the dynamic range. There were some clipped highlights, but I was working very quickly and there were on my fx3 as well…
That is the big question though. Hopefully we will be able to test it properly soon.
@@carlyates2487 Looking forward to it mate. I hope you're well and hopefully catch up soon
@@LoverOfTechAbsolutely! Would be great to see you. Hope alls good
Where in Türkiye was this event??
Antalya. Never been there before. I didn't get time to see much else other than the sporting arena and hotel but i could see looked lovely.
Is it able to be shooting video 4K60p in APS-C crop mode ?
Good question, i'm afraid I didn't try that so i'm not sure right now.
I wonder. Is global shutter a software implementation that could potentially be added to other recent cameras, like the r5C, or does it depend on hardware? Also, is the megapixel count a detriment In any way, say compared to a 45mp sensor?
Global shutter is very much a hardware feature i'm afraid.
Higher resolution sensors will just make it harder for a global shutter to process the data.
Is the talking head stuff shot on Sony?
I like your take. You did not over sell it. You pushed just enough while still being honest. I hear Sony people already gonna pass. Hard core fans. I dunno.
Yes, this one was all FX3 unless it says it was shot on A9 III.
Thanks, thats exactly what we aim for. Useful, independent and honest advice.
I was hoping it was Sony. I'm a Canon fan. The stuff you shoot in studio with Canon is gorgeous. The FX3 talking head images were not pleasing to my eye. Green-ish.
Sorry. I just needed you to confirm my Canon bias. :D

@@scottievee7467 Fair enough! Bare in mind this was also all made in a mad rush at an event. Normally I am in a controlled environment which I am very familiar with, using studio lighting. So its not a very fair comparison.
Understood. But I did not take this one occasion to form my opinion. Sony does a lot right. Color? I dunno. Now most of the footage from the Burano... that's different.
Sony bringing it home !!
It’s a very impressive camera!
You mentioned it can't do XAVC HS at 25p, but do you know if it can do 24p on NTSC? The A7s iii can do XAVC HS at 24p, 60p, and 120p, so I'm curious if this just a PAL limitation.
Yes it can do 23.97 in NTSC mode.
it looks really noisyyy carl, what happened?
Oh really? The A9 footage or my piece to cameras?
Please keep in mind this was made in a whirlwind rush over a few hours by myself when I had never touched the camera before. Plenty of user error was going on! I certainly wouldn’t blame the camera for any mistakes / problems you see in this video.
It was also edited while sat in a hotel lobby 😂
@@carlyates2487 noo not on your side haha, sry, i was just curious at 06:35 you can see in the blacks a lot of noise that I see in my clog2 footage, did you shoot slog? usually I never see noise when you post something :D but i mean it sounds like a busy event, should have thought about that
Oh yes that is a noisy shot! I didn't notice that while editing. Thats what happens when you work quickly. I can guarantee that was either an exposure or grading error on my part.
