Raffine is so good. Everytime I''m brewing I want too much. Discard, Draw, Counters, Maddness, Recursion, Flashback. It's such a swiss army knife. I eventually went for Varina, with a small zombie sub-theme (like, really small tbh) and just went for a go wide deck with all of the above in it (except for +1/+1 counters) and switched Varine for Raffine instead. Both work totally fine so far!
Couldn’t agree more! Raffine is one of those rare commanders where you can totally remake your deck around her and it’ll still run great. Like there’s no nagging feeling that you’re being suboptimal simply because Raffine brings THAT much to the table
It’s a term we use a lot here 😊 it stands for “Utilities, Bombs and Pets”. It’s like a catch-all category for cards that might not necessarily merit their own theme but our deck would benefit from running. Alternatively, it could be cards that do multiple things, thus giving our deck some versatility; or it could be cards that don’t fit but are too flavorful to pass up. They’re flex slots and usually the ones that you can swap out the easiest. A good example would be like Torment of Hailfire. Outside of big mana decks, there’s usually little reason to run it from a synergy POV. But some decks need a reliable finisher in the late game. That said, you don’t want to have a suite of ToH effects in your deck
Definitely see where you’re coming from but it’s from the set so it’s probably the only time it makes “sense” to play/recommend it 😂 but definitely, giving mana can be a real drawback so feel free to mix and match in staples like Swan Song or Fierce Guardianship 🦢
I do agree with the issue that 2 mana is more valuable than the equivalent such as swan song, but being half the mana of a traditional Counterspell is really good. It’s much easier to hold up 1 vs 2. Plus, if you’re countering an important spell, I’d rather them have the 2 mana than resolving an important spell.

What does UBP mean? I've never heard that term before and google is not leading me anywhere

Good call! I forgot Toothy exists lol 👍 it’ll get big quick and restock your hand later on
Im super sceptical of Offer you cant refuse. Giving 2 mana just seems so bad
