You can make the powder like I did. Put it in a ball mill for awhile. As for flakes, experiment around with it, depending on how big the particles are, it may not work because the aluminum does not ignite.
@@SmokeyPyro Unfortunately, I didn't try it yet 😂 My process in Pyrotechnics is very slow because I have another jobs to do but Finally I can get coarse aluminum powder with a file or fine Magnalium powder so I think both will work fine but didn't try any one of them yet 😁
I made a small batch of these, but they turned out extremely brittle. They wound break into pieces when the shell bursts, so I discarded them and am going to try again. Any idea of what I did wrong? I used a mixture of H2O and IPA as solvent. Should I use water only, and use more of it, so as to ensure that the dextrin hardens?
@@FireworkTutorials Wouldnt adding a bit more dextrin make it bind more? And perhaps it makes the burn rate a bit slower too, i dont know yet, but im going to try out this composition and experiment a bit with it :) Good video!
@@SmokeyPyro Yes dextrin should help, but even with large amounts of dextrin, some stars are just inherently brittle and should be made using different methods.
Does boric acid need to be added? I hear that it can spontaneously combust because of the aluminum and nitrate but I see people just do without it. I'm really not trying to have a house fire.
I feel like the most dangerous mixtures say KNO3 with Mg is dangerous since its a full mixture of both chemicals that do have the tendency to combust, so if you plan to make 1kg of that flash powder, yeah use boric acid, especially with these quantities, you NEVER want to have it combust in your face, so be careful and read really good into these topics But if you have like this star mixture, you do have a dangerous composition, but since its only like 40-50 grams of aluminum powder compared to 50g of KNO3 with alot of other stuff added into, its basically the dextrin, charcoal and sulfur already covering the nitrates, and when you add aluminum, the aluminum doesnt have the surface area covered to cover enough kno3 alone, but still, be wary because there might be a hotspot of kno3 with alot of aluminum covering it, that it may have enough energy over there to self combust. Thats the danger with milling Mg too, always when milling Mg do it in small quantities, and try to open the mill as many times as possible, and try to stay away from the very fine (300mesh + ) size, or if you want to, look into a way how you can cover the fine particles so they dont react with the moisture in the air... Thats where the pyrophoric effect comes from. The smaller the particle, the less energy needed to make it combust with the tiny water particles in the air, even you breathing on it could be enough water to make the magnesium combust. So yes what you heard about a pyrophoric situation, especially watch out with Kno3/Mg flash, and Kclo4/Al Flash powders, they can just like you heard combust by a rare occasion.. So if you want to be safe, Pyrodata is a site in which there are compositions where they warn for this effect and do say that you need to add a percentage of boric acid, or another chemical i believe for these specific compositions. So if you want to be safe, look into a few sites, and read in on what causes this pyrophoric effect, then you will reduce your risk of getting a housefire :) Or just put the ball mill in your garden outside, i wouldnt want to have 500g of bp or other comps rolling inside my house haha Long comment, but hopefully i answered your question :)
@@SmokeyPyro But I saw in a lot of articles that boric acid can't be added to Magnesium/Magnalium flash powder because It starts to attack the flash powder instead of making it more stable?

Hello from Digant I love to learn about making fireworks but I don't how to make various colors from other chemicals with the help of using potassium nitrate base formula. If you know how then please share more videos like this.
Hello, Unfortunately, I do not do colored fireworks, as they use many chemicals that I cannot easily obtain. Check out skylighter.com, they have many formulas. You can also look at pyrodata. Their website has info on many compositions.
You could convert it using math. I you multiply a pound times each percentage (75%, 10%, 15%), I think it would work that way. Also note that 500 grams is about 1 pound
Am new to a lot of this,,,,,,what liquid would i use to wet this with to then cut up into stars, do i need to be wary as it now contains ali....? thanks have subbed....
I’m not sure what Ali is. Aluminum? Aluminum and nitrate mixes are not very stable - should be used up within a few weeks (take cautions, and you will be fine) You can use alcohol or water to wetten the mix. Also, if need be, you do not have to use aluminum in this formula at all, because it is not necessary. Also, if you are new to this take cautions and be safe, especially with aluminum. Thanks for the sub btw!
Nice Video :D Can you help me? I have a simple question, so when you make this star this way for sure you'll add some alcohol and water to the stars, and let's say it's a metallic star containing Aluminum or Magnesium or Zinc, and of course, there is an Oxidizer like Potassium nitrate and Sulfur....... So my question isn't that Dangerous ?? I mean the moisture with flash comp like metallic stars will react with sulfur and make the comp Sensitive. (By the way, I'm going to add some Boric Acid) Is it okay or what should I do :)
by the way it's Granite zinc stars I'm going to add some Boric acid and store the stars + the powder not for too long don't know if it's safe or not :)
First problem with this video is that you weigh all of your chemical together. The problem with this is that the overall glitter formula you’re using is finicky when it comes to perfection of proportion size. It’s also finicky with how well it’s mixed. It’s not one you can just shake up real good roll or press or make a patty and cut. You want proper incorporated chemicals for it. This is also bad because it teaches the viewer to do this all the time. If you mix flash like this and it’s a chlorate flash versus a perchlorate, it’s a recipe for disaster....
@@Pyrojesusgod I appreciate your concerns, but you are incorrect. This formula is not very finicky and is great for beginners. I have been making fireworks for over 5 years, and know what I am doing. As for flash, someone should really understand the dangers of it before watching a youtube video on how to make it. I myself have not even ventured into making flash.

Sure, if you say so. If it makes you feel better to dis someone else... I don’t see a huge problem with weighing the chemicals in one container, but I do occasionally use multiple now.
