holy shit, its so easy to forget these days, that wayne can hold his own as a guitarist. To think that they've been putting out consistently good music with no break for almost 40 years is incredible
all that simple wankin?? Don't get my wrong, it's awesome, but he ain't lou barlow even. And if ya don't hear the similarities, then Se bad oh, don't mean crap either to ye.
I saw them around this time in Normal, Illinois. They played in the community room at the bowling alley. Really was an experience at 16 years old.
Oh My Gawd...

I have never heard Wayne Coyne shred before. I had no idea he was ever this good, I would totally see these guys if they came to town. And lord, that hair! Michael Ivins looks like he beamed in from Woodstock. Wayne introduces one song with "This is a song about doing drugs." It was one of the best ones. They already have a light show (with bubbles, disco balls, and smoke), and Wayne does Everybody's Talkin' At Me a lot like he'd do It's a Wonderful World and Do You Realize years later.
I’m old. I still go to their shows which are fantastic and unbelievably good - but these shows were my favorite. They were so very loud…
The Lips always made a great power trio.
Funny that they were a trio again ten years later. I saw them as a trio in '99 at the now defunct Tramps in NY. It was just as intense and great. I first saw them in '95 with Ronald Jones and that was also incredible. One of the loudest shows I've ever seen.

I was at this show. They were the opening act for the Meat Puppets. One of the friends I went with just went to the bar after the FL part of the gig because he was so blown away he had no energy left for the main act.
Can't believe I still have a copy of their '84 EP that featured "Scratchin' the Door". Got all the original inserts that came with it too. Clear green vinyl with a plain red label. Only recording that Mark Coyne sang on.
I haven’t been a huge fan of their later work, but this is next level
I saw them around this time a few times and it blew my teenage mind.
Acid-drenched "Telepathic Surgery"-era greatness!
Wow. Amazing that you've posted this after all this time :D
I love it.
