Officially, odd eyes is about the beauty shown and seen by one eye and the other eye is the beauty within (something to that effect based on what Jiu said in their showcase when asked about it). One of the populartheory is that it is a social commentary about social media where people put up fake personas online where everything is perfect and beautiful (i.e. siting behind a mask, beautiful scenery, perfect mirage etc.) and perhaps to defend against the hate (personal take based on continuation from the previous video) but deep down, it is a lie and such people could be full of sorrow. Hence, utopia can only be found from the beauty within, and not what is seen and shown online etc.

I hope the hate doesn't affect you! I don't know why anyone would hate you or this channel when it's one of the best kpop channels out there! This channel is so unique and iconic and you learn more and new information not only about music theory but the song itself and the symbolism and hearing ideas coming from professional is so cool and not only that but extremely inspiring as a aspiring musican. This channel is always interesting because of how clever you guys are and your inputs.
This! They point out so many things I would have never noticed and help me appreciate the songs even more!
Maybe they butthurt how critique them on the song tho its the common problem from reactor when the audience did not get what they hoped for
Aside from the basic hate kpop reaction channels get no matter what, I could see stupid haters here commenting that kpop isn't that great in terms of musical craft as this channel describes it. So basically narrow minded people who want everyone to believe that kpop is low quality music with no musical excellence involved because they believe it. This channel is the manifestation of the fact that this is not true and kpop can be so extremely well made and I really hope Umu knows that. This channel is my mental armor against kpop hate 🥺
bc people think not liking a song means hating the group or sumn. they're literally beyond respectful and unbiased when they review stuff, so i think is just v young stans that think criticism is always hate and negative.

I feel like the lyrics are very somber in Odd Eye. If Scream and Boca are about trying to escape negative comments, Odd Eye speaks to the futility of seeking that utopia. That you'll always be in dystopia. Really looking forward to the third Dreamcatcher lore arc!
If anything, the "what they dreamed of" line suggests there was a "utopia" of sorts, but it just wasn't what they had anticipated it to be. The nature of the Cyberpunk concept aligns with this fairly well. The image of the future is romanticised to be that utopian landscape filled with anthropological and technological advancements (check out post-WW2 and 1960-80's technological pipe dream and fetishism of the "aliens are among us on Earth" idea). Where in reality, human nature and disparate ideologies prevents progression in a unified state. It's neither strictly utopian or dystopian, but qualities taken from each end of the spectrum become much more apparent and coexist simultaneously. Yoohyeon drinking the red liquid has the same purpose as Neo taking the red pill in The Matrix, and an uncertain future is presented to them in the end.
It’s interesting that the lyrics are a bit depressing but the music itself is almost defiant and more jubilant.

Sometimes I may not check a recent release, which is sad as a subscriber, but I always come to the ones that appeal to me. Which is also fine cause your content is versatile (when it comes to groups) so someone else will check it out. Honestly I've unsubscribed from many reactors or stopped investing time to them, but your videos are not just educating, but also fun to watch. Love the editing in this one ( 7:36 especially )

What I like about the lyrics is the fact that not only the Utopia is impossible to reach, but in the search for it the closest we can find is just a world of fake smiles that just hide deeper hate. That's why in this MV the mask is the biggest it's ever been, it literally trapped Yoohyeon, because in the search of Utopia they ended up in a much sadder reality. It's quite dark lol

I wonder if the reason the song isn't nearly as dark as one might expect is bc while part of the message of the song is that utopia doesn't exist, the other component is that utopia is something you can find inside of yourself. Jiu mentioned this in one of their radio interviews. Kinda fits with the idea of hear no evil (after Scream being see no evil and Boca speak no evil)
Did you know I discovered Dreamcatcher thanks to Umu and ReacktotheK almost 1 year ago? 2020 was made bearable in part because of channels like this and amazing groups like Dreamcatcher! Odd Eye is definitely my favorite title track of the Dystopia trilogy in terms of sound and energy. It just goes so hard and I love the guitar work and vocal flexing that they do throughout.

Iconic Handong's "uuwuu" strikes again since the What era. They incorporated gestures from the previous two songs into the choreography: 1:53 Scream gesture, 2:00 Boca gesture
plus the choreography ended how scream started they looked like a Tree
Leez and Ollounder didn't produce What though. But that might have been a reference, yeah 😊
many were saying the red drink and general cyberpunk aes is matrix esque, as each time yoohyeon drinks the scene changes to the grittier chorus claiming there is no utopia as if it is "waking" her up :O
I'd like to think that it's the Dreamcatcher analogue of The Matrix Red Pill scene. The purpose of the pills was for what kind of future Neo wants to see. The red pill to show the unpleasant truth and uncertain future, whilst the blue pill will keep Neo living in the dream world he's currently in. Notice how the colour red takes the forefront in this music video. They've used blue for very specific things in the past; the blue rose from the Nightmare series in particular. Since Dreamcatcher wants to wake up and see truth, we don't even see an object of significance that's blue here apart from the scenery, even the leaves in the Tree of Language are red.
Personally I took it as "Drinking the Kool-Aid" - i.e. buying into the social media lie - will poison you.

I think this song has climbed to number two on my all time favorite list, just behind You and I(it was the first song from them I ever heard, actually as part of a best songs of the year list on this very channel). There are so many elements of this song I love, but one sticks out in my mind. I have noticed a trend, in Scream, Boca, and now Odd Eye. There is no denying their sound has changed into more of a true fusion of rock and kpop, as opposed to a kpop group that does rock songs(at least for their title tracks, I honestly don't think the b-sides are all that different, as they have always experimented with genre with those tracks). The main result is a more electronic feel, and there is no doubt this change is in part to appeal to a wider audience. Yet every single time, Leez and Ollounder slip something super metal into the song, that will often go unnoticed by the more casual fan. So in Scream its the fact that there is a palm muted guitar mimicking the synthesized main riff throughout most of the song, which becomes more prominent in the chorus. In Boca it's the absolute shred of a guitar solo that they weave into the second prechorus, and now in Odd eye, its the half palm muted riff in the chorus, which might be one of the most metal(like thrash metal) sounding riffs in their entire discography(excluding No More, and Endless Night of course). Its like someone told them, "Hey nobody in Korea likes rock/metal," to which L/O responded, "Oh, we'll make you like it, and you won't even know."

Yes! During the chorus, the "ooOOoo" is the same melody as part of Inception's chorus "youuuhhh"! 1 b6 5 2 :) There's probably a few more similarities other than that, but that's the first thing that jumped out at me.
Fun fact, you can put Inception and Wind Blows together and the lyrics will replied each other 😂

after listening to odd eye, i feel like all three songs have to be put together, they are a journey to explore different types of bully. that's why the mvs are in different eras and they use different types of instruments with the rock core. so it looks to me the core message is throughout the history, bully has always been around. everyone is looking for a utopia but it's also just a facade... it's very true but sad at the same time. i do kind of want what Sean hopes that their next story will have connections with this though...

I've watched a couple of dance reactors react to their MV, and they didn't notice the eye.
There's also a dance move where it seems like SuA was closing the eye by moving the backup dancer's arms.

I really liked the short transitions. I think the jazz chords in the transitions can kill the momentum at times.

Yeah, I think this is a solid Dreamcatcher title track, I especially like the verses (they have such a grand, majestic feel to them, really fitting a 'fake' utopia), and as Umu said, the bass sounds kinda like a piano sound, it is sort of uncanny to me?
I just wish (as with Boca) that they had taken the song a bit further in the final chorus (I am spoiled by Deja Vu and Scream), and given the concept, they could have turned darker, as Sean said (like, imagine a totally devastating twist at the end, going phrygian, maybe more overdrive, changing up the guitar riff to something chromatic or stuff like that...)
Well, my song preference in the trilogy (Scream, Boca, Odd Eye) correlates with the tempo (double time does not count), though there is no causation (I think) and it is not strictly proportional.
I feel like overall (concept-, lyric- and music-wise) this is probably one of the strongest trilogies in K-pop.
And your commitment, Umu, is amazing, chasing down that melodic motif... :D

and some people find this a more techno/electronic which they don't realize they just prove the fact that this is a cyberpunk concept and leading to a futuristic style, that guitar sounding in the chorus and that continues sound kind of a unique motor bicycle (that's how I describe it 😂)

Here's what I can glean from the MV.
We definitely know the girls transformed into Water Goddesses in Boca, during their fight against the people influenced by the corrupted fruits of the Tree of Language, which Gahyeon caused by destroying the core of the Tree in Scream. Handong disappeared in Scream as well.
Odd Eye seems to continue with Sua, Jiu, Dami and Siyeon being the only goddesses left after the War, with Gahyeon isolating herself because of her guilt, and Yoohyeon drinking the fruit of the corrupted tree, being corrupted herself. Sua gets dragged into being corrupted by Yoohyeon as well. Jiu takes over as the caretaker of the tree from Sua, blinding herself with a blindfold to shield herself from the harsh words of the corrupted people.
There's also a different dimension at play with Yoohyeon in the restroom, Siyeon's room with the TV's, Gahyeon's room with the PC, Dami in the train etc. This seems like a world where the girls fell into technology instead of the witches they once were.
We see Handong somewhere kneeling over broken glass, and it looks to be sometime in the past, with her having two differently colored eyes. This seems to indicate that she sees both bleak outcomes of both dimensions. So she sets to repair it (the broken mirror representing wanting repairing what's broken), also now evolving into a Goddess in the process, possibly causing her disappearance in Scream. This is shown by the massive white explosion as she activates her ritual to merge the two universes together, as seen with the second dimension melting apart through the screens we see throughout them (Jiu and Siyeon's phones, Gahyeon's monitor). This is shown to have worked, and the Tree of Language dies and burns into ash as a result.
So there is no more Utopia. But there is no Dystopia either with the Tree of Language removed from existence with Handong's actions.

I wrote a pretty detailed analysis on Dreamcatcher's Dystopian message about online hatred with regards to Scream and BOCA and part of why I did that was because the trilogy story hits home for me too on a professional level, so I totally get where umu is coming from here. I'm excited to break down this last song and how it fits, but am waiting for some more interview and source material to pull from to do so.
Hoping you react to the rest of the album, there is so much to unpack in the different genres Dreamcatcher was playing with, which is part of why I like them a lot.

The verse and prechorus of this song remind me a lot of 4Minute's Hate, in a good way. Slow, emotional melodies into EDM buildup and drop. They killed it!

That "uwu" part you are looking for is from their title track WHAT and can be found during the stanzas. And yes, it was also Handong's part so they remade that part here in Odd Eye.

Good catch! It's because both Odd Eye and One share the same melody at that part (but in different keys). The intervals/"scale degrees" for both are: 1 2 b3 2 1 b7 5 1!

I really respect it too, I'm totally the same when I hear something familiar. In fact I was just doing the same yesterday for the guitar part in Handong's verse post-dami rap in "Wind Blows" I'm still not 100% sure whether I found it or not, but I concluded that it was really similar to the prechorus guitars in Full Moon (with Full Moon being a lot more sped up and a bit different, but the quality of the guitars is the same)

If you guys pay attention to the album cover, earthy colour and tree in Tree of Language, Water drop in Dystopia, and clean white colour in Road Utopia. One way we could interpret this as maybe the land, water, and sky. The other way (makes more sense) is the civilization of humanity? The tree, flowers, roots and the earthy colour symbolises the nature, water droplets usually associate with life and civilization (in survival movies, a river means there will be a village nearby.) and the white pillars and white surroundings are humanity conquering nature. So.. yeah.

드림캐쳐 3부작 피날레로 전 정말 좋은 곡이었다고 생각해요.
새삼 깨달았는데 다미 랩 가사 읽다보니 제가 처음 돌판 들어와서 악플러들 때문에 싸우고 분노하다 지쳐버렸던 때가 생각나서 오드아이 가사를 다시 음미해봤습니다.
Also the "Aaaa" part in the bridge after Damis part is from In The Frozen

funny you mention a repeated melody because I've always thought that Jiu's "ah~" (la ti do re do ti la) in the bridge reminded me so much of the oOoOOs in In The Frozen

Honestly an amazing ending to the trilogy in my opinion. I was shocked at the "unhappy" ending at first and i really felt like its actually quite the risk to leave it at that instead of maybe struggling for a "happy" end but i realised its actually much more realistic this way. I think the album name being "Road to Utopia" shows their journey to find this perfect place and at the end they discover there is no such place because humans are never perfectly happy. Being perfectly happy would take away what makes us human which is going through all types of emotions. My take is you have to find a balance within the dystopia, within yourself because the dystopia is also part of us and what makes us human and we must struggle through it and not let it overtake us, we have to find a balance. Anyways thats my theory and im so happy that Dreamcatcher provokes such thoughts from me truly a special group 💕💕💕
