I played this game several times as a child. Never this far- never could beat it. That changed a couple of weeks ago. It changed for the worse. The game in question - Neopets: The Darkest Faerie.

Originally, this game was going to be made for the Playstation 1. The game came out in 2005.
Let me repeat that. They wanted to put a game on the PS1 in 2005. In 2005, the PS2 has already been out for 5 years.

Its funny to me how 40% of the footage is the main character running through the map.
What's also funny to me is how its sped up, meaning that you have to very slowly run through the whole game.

I felt like my entire childhood was called out in this video and I was cheering the entire time
I think this may be one of your best videos yet. I really enjoy the rapid fire nature of the narration and comedy, and how theres a constant flow of both clever audio and visual elements to support every little joke. I know you usually work with content like Arma where the comedy is improvised, but I think your scripted stuff is always great too, because you put so much thought behind each little detail.

The ziplines sounding like a high pitched beep is an emulator bug. You can use the latest nightly build to fix it because I was enough of a nerd to track down the source of the bug and fix it.

Its a wonderful and nostalgic game, and half of the jokes and critique in this video honestly made me laugh. I love this game down to the depths of my soul, its my favorite one. But I do haveta say it does indeed have its flaws.
Obviously we’re biased, I can recognize the shitty design choices. Other parts are still pretty neat to me. I think a big part of the fun was upgrading your equipment and hunting down the treasure chests in the open world. Getting the overpowered weapons was most of the game for me and made combat fine. Well maybe not fine but fast

This game is my childhood and one of the reasons I'm so into medieval fantasy and history. I would unironically love a second half to this.
Also, there kinda is a way to fast travel. Its called a "meerca speed potion," and its something you buy from shops.
This is amazing. I used to really be into neopets (to the point of being a "neomillionaire" and having the secret lab map lol) and had that game for the ps2. Really made me smile.
I loved this game when I was like 8. Basically it’s babies first RPG and we all know what nostalgia does to gaming experiences. This game will always have a place in my heart and this was so entertaining watching you tear it apart. Been waiting for a video just like this for years. Thank you.
Also, Neopets isn’t a Scientology thing anymore. I actually unironically love it. The story is actually super good. The have had a prequel on the site and I loved it

I loved this game as a kid, and a little as an adult thanks to nostalgia. You have to understand that if you were a kid into Neopets when this came out, it was the apex of the lore. It had a lot of site content tied in, some which had hinted at this game for a long time. Hilarious video in any case.

Going back to old works of great content creators is such a cool experience. Like, obviously this is nowhere on the level of what Max0r makes nowadays, but even still, you can see the beginnings of the chaos and madness he would later fully dive into, and I got a good laugh out of several parts. It's like Caddicarus's oldest game reviews, they're awkward and not as funny but you can still see glimmers of what will one day be when the maker fully embraces their gift.

Max0r please revisit this I grew up with this and I literally experienced ego death after realising people, other humans made this game. It is so painful I never even got half way and I need to see how it ends because searching up pipe bomb recipes has put me in less lists than attempting to watch gameplay videos also i just really enjoy having a constant source of sensory overload. I can get Watame to collab with you just please revisit this

Except for some issues with fighting, but its a different time, different technology, and ps2 was a test site for future games and the industry. Unfortunately you never feel OP in this game and money is hard to come by.
Though the snake / dragon boss in the lagoon was a bitch, and i was a kid, so i couldn't figure out how to beat it.
Also the endless staircase, because i was an idiot, a kid, and a beginner gamer, i spent an hour or so walking down the endless stairs.
I agree, and yeah the Hissi (Swamp snake) was hard for me as a kid too. Its a great game, and i honestly didnt like some of the things he said. But I have to be honest some of the things made me laugh.

this was one of my first video games and my friend and I have both attempted to beat it at least 6 times between us and I'm not sure we've ever made it beyond Brightvale either due to game breaking bugs or brain rot. this is hysterical, thank you for the recap.
I tried speedrunning this when I still had my ps2. The reason it had to be EVERY DAY was because I was out of storage on my memory card. Best I could do was the arena fights in one day.
Afghanistan, like Neopets, hasn't aged so well.....

As a kid, I absolutely loved this game and the mote system. Yeah, as an adult it sucks, but man did it make me love RPG games.

my sister and I had this game growing up but we never actually got past getting the sword repared so its nice to see what actually happens in this game
I remember this much more fondly, from when i played it as a kid.
Also, in my (possibly weak) defense of this game, I found this game very enjoyable as a child and still do. For a 3-4 GB game, this was pretty big. There were a lot of characters, every character had something new to say, grant it, only maybe three Ines each. You weren't entirely restricted to the plot because of the side missions. You could go treasure hunting, hunting drackonacks, exploring dungeons like the abandoned Kreludian Mine. I liked the lack of fast travel because it kind of kills the game when you add that. It makes it faster yes, but then you miss out on the environment. Speaking of which, yes, the graphics aren't the best. But it was 2005 or 2006. Imagine if this game was remastered. Good voice actors, better storyline so it flows better, better animations, even more beautiful soundtrack, and the graphics would be stellar. Despite it's flaws, I rather enjoyed this game and would love to see it remastered.
