      Enjoy! Those little guys can be a pain sometimes, always into stuff like little monkeys!

    Very nice! Beautiful scenery, loved seeing the goats & dogs. Some rugged country up that way!

    Re Mineral soup, from 50+ years,experience, on farm. use mineral blocks rather than soup. We lost Millie the goat after drinking from a pail of latex paint, similar look to the mineral soup. Our salt & mineral blocks are kept off ground, a simple post & shelf with a tin roof.

      The soup is not a mineral block. The soup is better than a mineral block.

    Do you especially train them to follow you or do they do when they are properly bonded?
    Also - when you hike with do they need to stay behind you? Like you are the herd queen and no goat is allowed to get in front of you? Or doesn’t this matter? Thanks :)

      If there bottle-fed you won't have to train them to follow you, but you'll have to work with them to cross water. They don't like getting their feet wet. Yes, they should always stay behind you, because you never know what might be ahead of you on the trail. Dogs are the worst. The goats will have a pecking order when on the trail. Have a great day!

    Great videos! Thanks for taking the time to share these! Are all your goats kiko alpine mixes? And what brand of saddle would you recommend? Thanks again!

      My two young black and white goats are Alpine Kiko, My two large black and white goats are Alpines, and my white one is a Saanen. I bought my saddles from Northwest Pack Goat equipment.

      @@StevenRay64 thanks for the info! I am getting two kiko's this summer to start training as pack goats, so I'm trying to absorb as much as I can.

      I raise Alpine goats myself and I recognize the Alpine in his herd. I don't know what the others are. Either way they're all beautiful! Goats are just amazing creatures! 😊

    Are there any rules that the goats must abide by when out hiking. I imagine one can't show up to a national park and take their goat. What a marvelous concept. As a women, I'd love to have a goat companion❤

      A lot of national parks don't allow dogs or livestock, so you would have to check their regs. I pack in national forest wilderness, so dogs and livestock are allowed.

    What's the "goat soup" for? What's it called, and what's the recipe?

    Great packers, wish i had a few back in the day up in the mountains. Do you worry about mountain lions and bears attacking the goats?

    • @StevenRay64
      @StevenRay64  3 роки тому

      Never worry about the bears or Mt. Lions, a9nd there is a lot of them here in far northern CA. Nothing can sneak up on a goat. They can see and hear very well. If there is beats around they stay very close to me.
