you said things i’ve been saying…the neighbors have hounded me to have my puppy come out to play, she’s not interested in them, they steal her ball, they don’t make her sit for fetch…so i saw them undoing what i was training. the neighbors also would invite her to the wrought iron fence and reach in, everything i’m trying to prevent….she would get excited and stomp my plants, plus they’re letting her practice being out of control excited. don’t let neighbors ruin your dog

I just got my first Border Collie puppy last week. She’s now about 9 weeks old. I have two Golden Retrievers who are around 4 years old. She LOVES to chase them and chomp on their legs so I try to REALLY limit and supervise her interactions with them so I can do my best to nip this in the bud straight away. I give her a lot of mental stimulation (snuffle, Kong, Puzzles, and training time). have already taught her tug with an ‘out’ command etc. Thankfully she doesn’t seem to try bite or mouth/nip me much at all. I don’t want to worry so much about taking her out to play, or have to crate the Goldens every time she’s out to play, but I don’t want her rehearsing bad behavior or hurting the Goldens either. It’s not easy.

I just got mine as well she is now 6 months. She very smart and I love her but she gets very excited lol To the point where we are in public she gets distracted with people. Not dogs but people lol But I realized that nipping is their way of getting into their herding instincts. So when mine nips I let her do her thing but I taught her to do it gently I just need to teach her how to stop which she still hasn’t gotten the idea. Any tips?

"Dont let them learn other dogs until they've learned you"

We also made this mistake. However limiting the herding behaviour has helped a lot and she tends to mostly play instead of herd now, which is better for the other dogs
