  • Take a walk aboard aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) and take a brief look of its interior. She is named for the 41st President of the United States George H. W. Bush
    Nearly 6,000 Sailors attached to the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWBCSG) depart Norfolk and Mayport, Florida, Jan. 21, for a regularly-scheduled deployment.
    The deployment is part of a regular rotation of forces to support maritime security and operations in the Navy’s 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation.

    Sensational walk-through - I really enjoyed that! What a fine ship she is. My father served for 23 years in the Royal Navy and I loved going aboard the ships he served on - walking down cramped corridors full of people, pipes, doors, cables and complex machinery brought back so many great memories - thank you!

    I just took a tour of the USS Midway (CV41) and have been searching UA-cam videos like this to see how different carriers are today. And they’re not! Some things don’t change it seems. Thanks to all of those who served and are serving. Seems like a tough life.

      I'm 6'5 and the midway has many areas that a 5'6 person couldn't stand up straight (including the mess decks!). That would have been miserable for me. On CVN-73 I was good almost everywhere after we got out of shipyard hard hats.

    For those wondering why the Sailors were weirded out by the cam its probably because most ships don't allow recording below topside because of something called OpSec or Operational Security so seeing a dude walking around recording everyone is weird.

    What most interests me is the reactions of personnel to the camera, with regard to what they do once they know a camera is present. It made me wonder what this walk through would look like if the camera(man) was an admiral and the camera was out of sight.
    That could make Allen Funt roll over in his grave.

      Nah, you're just not allowed to film around the ship. The guy at around 0:20 is confused because he's doing just that. He had a press badge on though

      @StephenZ827 Рік тому +1

      not really....they stand a little straighter and back off so the Admiral can make his way through. He also will have a security escort with him. They do have cameras' through out the ship for security and assist in the advent of fire. Al the Captains I have met have all been very thoughtful of their crew. You hear it on the 1MC informing them of events, music on main deck...or a run they will be doing....it's a lot of hard work, a lot of training and getting it all to work.

    Maybe it's the bulky uniforms, but I'm surprised at how heavy some of the sailors are. Don't Navy personnel have to pass regular PT exams and just generally stay in shape?

      Clifford Young, Yes when I was in 1990-1994 they were threatening sailors with discharge if they didn't lose the weight , I had a PO1 who had 16 years in they told him to lose the weight or be discharged and he lost it back in 1993.

      Why would something like that break your heart? Aside from the color, which will be changing to NWU3 very soon, the NWU has been a god send. I started in the Navy in the old bell bottom dungarees. They wore out quick. Hard to keep cool when it was stinking hot, hard to stay warm when it was bone-chilling cold. Hard to keep from getting dirty and worn out. The NWU is comfortable, roomy, plenty of pocket space for gear, durable meaning they dont wear out, easy to clean & press, easy to bundle up in the winter and very breathable in the summer.
