Epic! Good luck to him I hope he gets in next time. These videos are so helpful, I hope as long as I keep watching them I can prevent myself from appearing on them lol

I knew from the opening clip Dr. Gray was about to lay down the hammer

3.88 GPA, 514 MCAT, hundreds of hours of clinical and research. 18 schools, mid tier or lower. Yarg… the hours for the activities were a bit spotty and the descriptions could be improved, but not a single acceptance-that’s rough!

Stat-wise he feels pretty strong. I've been watching enough of these the descriptions for the activities and personal statement sound weak. The number of ours as well definitely played a part.

@@Hisoka107yeah there could be improvement, though I could easily imagine Dr G saying that they weren’t that bad if he got an acceptance (as in, I’ve seen worse statements get acceptances). They’re really not bad tbh

the writing was pretty bad tbh.

@@MrPaintballfanatic was it? It's easy to look back in retrospect, but if you told he was accepted I'd also believe that. I just wonder if we're biased because we know he didn't get accepted--unless you have specific reasons for thinking his writing was bad?

so overall, there are issues with the PS sounding like a resume dump, focusing too much on others in wa and ps, box checking, and a not optimal school list. If he redoes his writing, and continues clinical experiences throughout his year, then he’ll get in the next cycle he applies. Definitely qualified and will get in at some point , just needs a few writing focused tweaks

Around the 17 minute mark, talking about adding another activity that shows future plans (moving to a new location starting another job), would the secondaries be an appropriate place to put this information?

I’m so confused actually! How was his sparring description wrong? I thought his story was intriguing. I didn’t think he was selling himself at all😮I thought story was for sure the way to go especially with hobbies.

He needs more current clinical experience where he interacts with physicians. Volunteer in a free clinic and the personal statement will write itself.
