I feel like when someone dies, they’re powers get transferred to the last person that was with them (?) just like what happened with the twin and Qiao Ling in the tunnel. Maybe when Cheng died in Lu’s arms he passed down his power to him, therefore giving Lu the ability to go back in time
There wasn't an indication the power was passed to Qiao Ling, only that the sister used her powers in her final moment to show her memories (including the memories of others she'd seen) to her. Lu Guang has a different power than Xiaoshi, but we haven't seen what happens if he uses it alone. Remember that Xiaoshi's power would have made him return to his own time if he clapped (something Lu Guang has done, albeit with Xiaoshi), and that he's only able to stay for a short period of time, and it's implied Lu Guang has been in the past for way longer than that. It's an interesting thing to note; the characters have their ages listed, except for Lu Guang. We don't know how old he is, for some strange reason, we only know he is younger than Xiaoshi. But why? Why would they keep his age hidden? Unless it's because he's transferred his consciousness back in time, and he is actually older than his physical body (perhaps he's gone back many times?).
Li tianxi activates her ability through photos to observe what the person in the picture is seeing/knows. There was no picture present, and qiao ling shouldn't have gotten tianxi's memories either way. It's very clear that this is a novel thing. One explanation would be that tianxi's power got transfered to ling. That would go along with the white light being transfere from tianxi to her, and you could explain that with the power comes the memories of the individual. Another explanation could be that what got transfered was the power, but the identity if the individual dictates how that power manifests. Therefore, ling's power works slightly differently because it is not activated through photos but through touch. About cheng, we don't actually know if he has a 12 hour limit. We only know that lu guang can only see 12 hours in a photo. It is highly likely that cheng only has 12 hours because that's the time lu guang can guide him. We've also seen that cheng himself isn't at all experienced with his power (like him not knowing that he retains his physical prowess on the bodies or that he dives with his whole body for cctv) while lu guang knows how it would work. Most likely, lu guang got the power to go back in the past from cheng dying, and he is now using it. He cannot use it further because activating it would turn him back to "present". The condition probably isn't just putting the hands together but doing it with intent (i find it hard to believe that accidentally touching your hands would break the dive)

It was actually pretty clearly shown that powers pass down to other people when the original users die, even if they didnt 'say' it.
Either that or it's optional. Where Tianxi would of course pass the power to the one who was nice to her. And of course Xiaoshi will pass it to his best bro and vice versa.

So this is my theory. At some point in the past timelines, CX dies in LG's hands. His power jumps to LG. Then LG uses that power to go to the beginning, where he first met CX and to save him. This whole story, from S1 it was LG changing the past to save CX. And I figured out smt after watching again. LG says he wants to return to the beginning. Which is definitely where LG met CX. He came out of nowhere when CX was playing basketball. And LG says he STILL wanna use the last chance to save CX. I think this wasn't the only time he's creating a timeline where CX can be saved. In his flashbacks, if you look closely, when CX dies in his hands, he sees so many memories. So many frames. In some frames, LG can't even remember who's the person or what's happening anymore (like in Emma's case) because there're so many memories. And in some, LG is crying and screaming while holding CX body. I think CX has been dying in LG hands all the time. LG was trying to save him all of those times, but the result was the same. But this time, LG is creating a timeline from the very beginning, where CX is safe, but if CX changes that time line too, his efforts would've ended up in vain. So he put a rule not to change the past, not to question the future. This is why he's panicking so much whenever the situation gets out of his hands (when CX went into the photo without LG assistant) and when CX life in danger (when Qian shots CX) he went into rage after CX got shot. I still can't figure out where the node LG is trying to change. Most likely, it'd be the ending of S1. I think in every past timeline, LG was saved. That could be why he's saying that if death can't be avoided, he's ready to die. Means CX was the one who died there, but this time it's LG. In the end, I think LG is pretty satisfied with the current timeline because CX is still alive, smiling. Idk if I'm ryt this is just my theory. And every time I think about this, I feel so bad for LG. Watching CX die in different ways and failing so many times, yet he's still going back to save him in a loop. But i think, no matter how many times LG is changing the death it cannot be avoided because he's saying that death is a an unavoidable node. But he still tries. Maybe this could be the last time LG is trying to save CX because he's trying so hard from the beginning, turning a blind eye to every other death just to save CX. The crazy thing is, LG's passwords is the day he went back to the beginning. Also i think Lu Min's brother knows about those powers and he wants to turn everything back to the original timeline where CX dies for sure. Later they revealed that LG & CX met this hat guy whlie they were on a trip when they were in high-school. Even that time, before meeting CX, LG had his powers, but they started the photoshop after they returned from that trip. That means most likely CX got his powers from the original power holder, when he somehow dies and power jumped to CX. This means from the beginning LG had to make this timeline so that this original power holder dies and to let the power jumped to CX. Otherwise LG cannot go back and save CX in the first place. I think hat guy knows this whole thing somehow. S3 will be about the time period where they went this trip and meets this hat guy, unknowingly. And i think we'll get the answers to how CX got his powers from S3. I've waited more than a year until S2, but it was so worth it. I'll be waiting for S3 no matter how long it took because i know that it's gonna be a masterpiece just like this one for sure!
Agreed with the most parts, it was interesting to read! But the extra part isn't season 3, it's just a little prequel, side-story, so we'll have to wait for real season 3 a bit longer.
Qiao Ling gets overlooked a lot but I actually really like what this season did for her character. She starts the season talking about how Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang are always leaving her out of the loop, which hurts because she's Cheng Xiaoshi's older sister figure, and now it feels like her little bro is out there risking everything but not telling her anything. Then throughout the season she gets more characterization about her being empathetic but mature and level-headed in a crisis, kind of putting her as the complete opposite of Li Tianxi. And it all cumulates in Qiao Ling getting her power, which not only resolves her character crisis from the beginning of the season (being left out and not given information) but also ironically puts her in a critical position between Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi.
I think the whole timeline we were seeing since season 1 is the timeline Lu Guang entered from the future where Cheng Xiaoshi was already dead. The ending scene is him entering the timeline we were watching the whole time to try and save Cheng Xiaoshi so Lu Guang has literally been "living in the past" this whole time.
don't speak English well, but I'll try to explain something that I noticed. If you look at the clock at the end, you will see that Cheng Xiaoshi died on a September night. The fact is that in the third episode of the first season it is said that Emma died in September. And in the first season, at the end, we find out that it was at night. I think Chen Xiaoshi should have died instead of Emma, but Lu Guang saved him. Moreover, it explains some things in the first season. Remember how persistently Lu Guang tried to hide information about Emma from Chen Xiaoshi. It can also be noted that in the first season, the topic of trust, which Lu Guang reflects on, is very often touched upon. Well, the main argument in favor of my theory is to recall Lu Guang's surprise after Cheng Xiaoshi was able to save Emma at the end of the first season. What if we assume that he was amazed that he could change the time? And if Emma's case is secondary, then why are they focusing on her in the OP? Moreover, now we recall the beginning of the second season and Lu Guang's words that the past has changed. And he can only accept it. i’d also like to point something else out that in s1 ep1, lu guang’s watch says that the date is april 16th. but this is really strange, considering in s1 ep3 it confirmed emma died in september, but wouldn’t the date suggest that she should’ve died in april according to lu guang’s watch, since in the same episode it reveals her death? i would assume that the first episode was a completely different timeline in itself, since s1 ep3 and onwards establishes a consistent timeline with the events occurring in october. i checked s1 ep2 for the date but there was nothing shown, so i’m not sure where ep2 comes into place with the timelines. like you said with emma being very important in the opening, she definitely has more significance to the story in the future as well.
congrats on reaching the end of s2 and joining the point everyone else is going crazy about! You two were very quick to clock in Lu Guang's time traveling, I must say. There are many theories about how things have been playing out for him - some believe he's in a loop, others that he only did this once (and notice the year he's clapping from is blurred, unlike the rest of the date in his watch). I've seen a very plausible one about the photo he took when Cheng Xiaoshi was kidnapped not actually being meant for him bc Lu Guang didn't even know his partner knew his phone password, and more likely so Lu Guang himself had an "entrance" in case Cheng Xiaoshi died that night. The most heartbreaking one for me tho is about their first meeting on the basketball court being Cheng Xiaoshi somehow diving back to say goodbye - his speech about partners for life seemed a bit suspicious. Be as it is, I think a fun insight on where the story is heading is which "justice warrior" they each cosplay when they go greet Doudou. btw, it was announced a link click special, the "yingdu chapter", which we think will be about the trip they took after college. Besides the trailer, so far all we really know is that Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi are on the poster together with Liu Xiao, and it's meant to have more of less 8 episodes to be released this year.

XD Couple notes: -One of the things that I think broke the straw for Xiaoxi connecting to Chen Bin on the roof, was that in seeing his thoughts and memories, she saw a father who wanted a daughter, who wanted to be active in her life and cherish her. With her own experience with her bio-father and her 'adoptive' father who either viewed her as a burden or a tool, I feel that seeing the kind of paternal care Chen Bin held in his heart had to have cracked her connection. -In the 'Lu Guang sees Cheng Xiaoshi die' flashback, CXS is wearing his season 1 jacket. Now maybe he'll get it back later but it was covered in LG's blood and taken by the cops so that's not guaranteed. If he doesn't then CXS's deathpoint that made LG jump back has already passed in this timeline.
I think this is the simplest answer is the right one. -I think when someone with an ability dies, the person they are touching gets their ability. And memories maybe - CXS was not born with his ability, we dont know about Lu Guang. But the over seas trip they took pre-season 1 is best bet for when both or one got their ability. Mr. Liu(black hair) also returned from "overseas" in the last ep. - the twins *mom last name is Liu* and its possible these powers can also be passes by genetics. Could explain why the boy was approached by Mr Liu in the firat place - not sure how many times LG has traveled but it seams any information about how time travel works we should assume is accurate and not a lie by LG. I dont think the creators intended to confuse the audience with fake rules. I believe rules were left out. But we should assume everything he says about the powers is true.
Guys now if we go back to the op and endings the scenes and lyrics make sense to LG and the constant time changes. Dive back in time: by showing the sequence of lg going back the video and the scenes of him throwing remains of possible photos and cxs of white on film tapes. OverThing: Cxs constantly in the red room of the photos and LG coming out of it while subtly disappearing at the beginning and end of scene (traveling in the padaso) Vortex: everyone goes back in time except LG (it's so obvious to his deleted scenes) The Tides: reference to the time machine, the man loses his wife and decides to travel to get her back (dying in the process) and the shape of the same figures when clapping palms. Qiao Ling seems to receive Xi Tianshi’s powers, and we see Lu Guang use the time travel power (which we can assume Lu Guang was given when Cheng Xiaoshi died). SO this entire time Lu Guang has had alternate Cheng Xiaoshi’s power which then adds another layer of reasoning as to why the power triggers when they high five. The power doesn’t trigger when Cheng Xiaoshi high fives anyone else, it only triggers because they both have the same power (Lu Guang having the instance of Cheng Xiaoshi’s power from the alternate timeline).
oh i've never seen this high five theory before. very interesting! this makes me think that maybe they can have different extra abilities when combined with different superpowers (for example if lu guang's power gets paired up with li tianchen's)

I absolutely loved this discussion. Especially in regards to theorizing how powers get transferred. Earlier in s2, the concept of their powers getting stolen comes up and LG’s face is terrified when Cheng Xiaoshi asks about it. A reason for that may be because if CXS’ power is transferred to LG after death, if they’re stolen LG doesn’t get a do-over if he fails in this timeline. Also if you rewatch the s2 finale the time on his watch is the same as his current password. 091305= September 13 00:05
Another moment where the show uses the same art direction as the flashback of Cheng’s death is in S2E1 when we see Lu Guang’s POV after he has been stabbed

After that episode look at the first episode's first minutes of this season again. You will see they already show us xiaoshi's death. Lu guang takes the xiaoshi's power when he was die. Then go back in time probably multiple times. I guess next season's first half will about to what lu guang did to change the reality which xiaoshi lives after that we will see our new rival.

- not sure how many times LG has traveled but it seams any information about how time travel works we should assume is accurate and not a lie by LG. I dont think the creators intended to confuse the audience with fake rules. I believe rules were left out. But we should assume everything he says about the powers is true.
Guys now if we go back to the op and endings the scenes and lyrics make sense to LG and the constant time changes. Dive back in time: by showing the sequence of lg going back the video and the scenes of him throwing remains of possible photos and cxs of white on film tapes. OverThing: Cxs constantly in the red room of the photos and LG coming out of it while subtly disappearing at the beginning and end of scene (traveling in the padaso) Vortex: everyone goes back in time except LG (it's so obvious to his deleted scenes) The Tides: reference to the time machine, the man loses his wife and decides to travel to get her back (dying in the process) and the shape of the same figures when clapping palms. Mastermind is too obvious

Qiao Ling seems to receive Xi Tianshi’s powers, and we see Lu Guang use the time travel power (which we can assume Lu Guang was given when Cheng Xiaoshi died).
SO this entire time Lu Guang has had alternate Cheng Xiaoshi’s power which then adds another layer of reasoning as to why the power triggers when they high five.
The power doesn’t trigger when Cheng Xiaoshi high fives anyone else, it only triggers because they both have the same power (Lu Guang having the instance of Cheng Xiaoshi’s power from the alternate timeline).
oh i've never seen this high five theory before. very interesting! this makes me think that maybe they can have different extra abilities when combined with different superpowers (for example if lu guang's power gets paired up with li tianchen's)

I absolutely loved this discussion. Especially in regards to theorizing how powers get transferred. Earlier in s2, the concept of their powers getting stolen comes up and LG’s face is terrified when Cheng Xiaoshi asks about it.
A reason for that may be because if CXS’ power is transferred to LG after death, if they’re stolen LG doesn’t get a do-over if he fails in this timeline. Also if you rewatch the s2 finale the time on his watch is the same as his current password.

@@vyckygy6626Yep, the 12 hours limit is self imposed. We never see anyone forced to return to present due to the 12 hrs limit. Based on the ending of Season 2, Lu Gong is still in the "past" trying to prevent Xiao shii death. 😢

My theory is that once the 12 hour limit ends they get stuck on the body of the person they possessed. Lu Guang possessed himself so it kinda works.
After that episode look at the first episode's first minutes of this season again. You will see they already show us xiaoshi's death. Lu guang takes the xiaoshi's power when he was die. Then go back in time probably multiple times.
I guess next season's first half will about to what lu guang did to change the reality which xiaoshi lives after that we will see our new rival.

Did you watch the first 5 minutes of Season 2 episode 1 where Chang Xiaoshi was dying in his arms? Where he wasn't supposed to be stabbed and somehow (probably Emma dying) lead to a change in his ideal future to the point where he was going to give up on the time loop?
