Video on going in depth explaining how the smoke exhaust and pressurization fan system works and why it’s there ua-cam.com/video/uv8BTbXV5uQ/v-deo.html
Oh yeah the problem at 14:10 is supposedly very common with bg 12's and its dangerous since if someone pulled it it wouldn't set of the fire alarm. Of course for newer buildings smoke detectors will trip but for older buildings it's more of a hazard
I was supposed to get a school like that but it never got passed sadly At least my current high school actually has many kinds of alarms. In the school itself it has a different model simplex and possibly Faraday horns, a red light on the wall in the assembly gym, and a gentex commander (Maybe version 1?) in the PE gym/Lunchroom, and finally an old Simplex horn in the choir room. The annex just has Simplex horn/strobes. The portables mostly have Spectralert advance horn/strobes, but the public speaking portable has a Spectralert classic. Also for emergency lighting, some lights in the front of the school and the annex have what looks like little red “O”s in them so I am guessing those lights stay on, the rest of the school just has Dual-lite twin heads and the “LBC lighting” I think it’s called. The portables have an old dual-lite and the public speaking portable has both the old dual-lite and a newer led one. However the science one has one on the side of the room and the one next to the door has no heads but somehow has a working battery.
I’ve been thinking about the horns seeming out of sync. Assuming the alarms actually are in sync, it is possible that it’s the speed of sound that is causing them to sound that way. Given the speed of sound is approximately 343 m/s, and the somewhat open concept of the school, we might just be hearing the delay it takes for sound to travel
That’s what the fa technicians are saying but even in the gym where you only have two in the same room they still sound like they’re going off at different times
@@HenBasketFireAlarms yea it’s not good but not sure what you could do about it everyone says sync modules but that does the same thing as the sync in the panel
Nice job I like to use walk test with horns and use smoke but you have to have a can of air to clear it or may go off again also it hard to find the spot place the magnet on smoke detector sometimes I also noticed detectors were not marked with there address on them wich is helpful in identifying with detector tripped as well for trouble shooting from Rich Owner of an Alarm Company.
14:26 That pull Station has got an issue! I remember last years testing video there was an issue with another pull station in that school, is that the exact same pull station?
No it’s a different one usually every year there’s one or two somewhere in the school district that act up just depends if you don’t pull it certain way
@@nics-systems-electric Huh… that’s weird, I have no idea why they do that. I have a Notifier NBG-12L and a FireLite BG-12L, and I don’t see why they would do that!
This school is in Canada we only have voice evacuation/mass notification systems in hospitals and high-rise buildings over a certain age size or the amount of occupants in the building does not affect if it's required or not
I'll be shocked if you reply on a video this old, but what is the lighting system your school uses? The models of the switches would be appreciated, but I could work with a brand name. I like the design and the "networked" aspect of it.
Their intended purpose is only for make up air as only specific doors open not all egress routes as well they only open on smoke alarm not pull station or sprinkler flow
1:56 I wish this was a joke for April Fools, but I really want to know the full name of the school. I have been anxious to get your location for years.
I know that you are keeping your location private, but I wished that I could get your location on April Fools. I am already sure that getting your location is NOT going to happen. 😂😂😂
@@nics-systems-electric so is the electrical shed and the main building panel connected via the local building network? (And if it is hopefully it is vlanned off from the rest of the network)
Even so, I could just imagine someone else trying to pull the fire alarm in a situation and then no one knows about it because you already tried to pull the fire alarm. Maybe it's just a design flaw everyone overlooked?
@@Reeseshead I would say it’s probably a slight flaw maybe if you don’t push it in hard enough it won’t activate not sure what I did differently with that one I’ve had it happened before
@@ksfAandkhiproductions3491 the panel in the mechanical room second floor of the wood shop where the addition meets the original section it's not shown in this video but is in other ones
No that's in the movies and very old pull stations that you can put glass in however usually it's just glass I've never ever worked on one that actually has anything in the glass
If it was a accessible room that was likely to be occupied and in public reach then it probably would however the only people that should and will be going in there should also have the knowledge to realize what can happen I do agree it would seem good to have some protection on the front of it however that may reduce airflow
Is the footage of the exhaust fan going in both directions as it slows down after it gets shut off due to the camera or the fan itself? It looks like it spins clockwise for a few seconds, then counterclockwise for a few seconds at first, and then stays clockwise at the final stage when it finally stops.
Definitely cameras that's extremely normal for cameras to do you've noticed they do that with almost any spinning thing happens when it is going through different speed ranges and when it matches the frame rate gliding in and out of matching it
Seems like several of those pull stations didn't work how you'd expect. Seemed activated but requires you messing with it to trip. Seems like that shouldn't be possible
There are strobes The system is apparently synchronized we didn’t think it was but what we have been told is it is just the echo but system sensor synchronization is enabled and there is no reason for it to not be working but it still doesn’t sound like it is to me either
Because it makes it more difficult for the person that’s following you around trying to figure out whereabouts in the buildings you are it’s just as fast if the person that’s writing everything down just hits acknowledge every time
@@nics-systems-electric ok I get it now! It does make sense and after you guys complete the pulls stations and smoke detectors you guy put it to normal and then set off the entire system!
I prefer the walk test with horns if by myself then I can see and here test but can always check history which detectors tripped I noticed detectors were not marked with the Detectors address (detector ID) From Rich Private alarm contractor nice job well done note it's hard to find right spot to place magnet on smokes Sometimes good check with test smoke can bring you can of air to clear smoke otherwise it make take while to smoke to clear out of it may go of again until it clears
Actually I’m surprised that they are not using beam detectors for the atrium and gyms having remote key switch testing/reset capabilities. I’ve installed quite a few over the years in applications like this. It saves on the amount of smoke heads needed to cover an area/ no need for lift for testing/ and less damage from sports stuff. Basically a laser beam goes from one side to a reflector and bounces back. The unit can tell if there is smoke based on the beam pattern of light coming back. Some brands and models had a receiver on the opposite side that had to be wired in. I liked the version where all wiring and test switch was on one end. For true testing you could put a can of smoke on the end of a stick in the middle of the room or brake the beam with different levels of colored film representing different particles in the air.
@@BR-ft2xg yeah that's my thoughts too that they should've install the beam detector however I have seen a lot more problems with beam detectors causing false alarms and troubles so maybe they figured there would be an issue there
