    I guess I should have known that my average Hand Drill Friction Fire takes over 5 minutes. I just never really thought about it until today's experiment, simply, how fast could I knock one out.

    5 minute hand drill ember. Something to aspire to. I’ll be happy if I can learn it in 5 weeks. Thanks for another great video.

    Fantastic work there David and you wasn’t even out of breath at the end of it. I certainly am haha. To be honest I’ve only got my first ember with the hand drill this week. Great to see a pro at work. Top job pal, Ant 👍

    I have been trying this afternoon for my first time using red cedar, I think the grill is too thick my slot is too wide,… I am using a bow drill, it’s kicking my ass. I will try again tomorrow with a smaller drillbit, the one I have now is about 3/4 of an inch,/1 inch thick… I think that’s part of the problem. I did make smoke at one point. How long does the hole in this fire board last? Do I need to clean it after it has been polished and blackened? Awesome video thank you

    David I've recently tried the fire roll with only the cotton alone with no ashes. I would always get a lot of smoke but still no ember. Why do ashes or rust work so well? I enjoy your channel.

    Thanks David ! Did you have sore hands regularly when you first started? I’ve been trying unsuccessfully with a hand drill and feel like my palms are bruised. It definitely takes some endurance and conditioning

    I thought it was a cordless electric hand drill you were going to use.

    Still fast by any comparison. Have you SEEN Naked and Afraid? There are people on there that have said "Oh I know how to make a hand drill fire so I'll be ok" only to find out they didn't practice enough to get it down to even 20 minutes, much less under 4. You make it look easy

    I live in New Jersey. We have a lot of oak, pine, maybe poplar. I'm not the best at all the different tree identifications. Just what properties should I look for in dead dry wood for making a hand drill. Should it be harder wood like oak or softer wood like pine..

    • @DavidWestBgood2ppl
      @DavidWestBgood2ppl  3 роки тому +1

      When first starting out use softer woods that pass the thumbnail test. See my hand drill playlist for more info.

    Just a friendly warning: Many years ago while attempting to give up smoking, I developed the habit of chewing on a tooth pick, one day I took a sharp deep breath and it shot to the back of my throat sideways. I resisted the urge to swallow and a forced strong cough shifted it enough so I could eventually get it out. If it had gone further I could have been in real trouble. Seeing you breath in to blow on the ember made me concerned for you. Take care David.🤔
