- Description of different types of inter-row cultivators and cultivation techniques. It is important to keep "sharp" shovels on your row-crop cultivator. Once the point of the shovel rounds off, the sweep will tend to push weeds aside rather than cutting the weed or rolling the soil to physically lift the weed out of the ground.
Amazing organic crop. I can not seem to win the weed battle half as good as you. Red root pig weed is my main weed and it is relentless pressure. I think they could take a few of its seed to the moon and it would grow. Great video.
Redroot will be there always, but can be managed. You will figure out how through time 👍🏻. Seems like weeds cycle. This year, morning glory is in many of my fields😉🙂. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Massey equipment is getting hard to find in my area, but I'm with you. I feel Massey has done an excellent job in building tools that work by listening to the farmers. Now that I'm retired, I could prob maintain my land with a 135, but I kept my 1100 because it was always my favorite. I get lots of looks when I get it out.
My good friend has a tricycle 1130! I find myself having to travel to find MF equipment. I do love a good buy as well 🙂. If I could only have one tractor, it would have to be a row crop 275!

Thanks for watching! People often have similar thoughts regarding the impact upon the plant roots...
Typically in my area (36+ inches precipitation), I have moisture to "burn". The primary concern is depriving preventing weeds from competing with the crop. Cultivation in this field is done on the contour and so when a late-season small rainfall event comes, the ridges created SLOW the flow of water across the field and thus aid infiltration.
Secondly. I know that relatively shallow inter-row tillage forces the plant to "root down". In a drought stress event, this gives the plant better chances of prospering. It also mechanically closes surface cracks in the soil and thus preserves soil profile moisture for use by the plant.
All the inter-row tillage passes occur at a depth of less than 3 inches and typically before the 45 day point of plant development!

What cain transmission uou have on the massey
The 596 Massey has a twelve speed transmission. It is basically the same as the old 200 series with multipower. You really only have 3 gears for tillage :( and the shifts are all mechanical. BUT, it is a bullet-proof design.
I have a 4 roll planter you ever see a massey Ferguson cultivator like yours for a 4 rolls
They could be ordered, but I have never seen one (other than my brother who had a 4 row wide that he parted out). Remember these (danish or s-tines) were made in the late 70's. By that time, 6 and 8 row had taken over. International also made late model high quality cultivators. You can take a 6 row and make it 4 row! I have seen the older Massey model 144 4-row cultivators.
On the 30 inch roll how many population did you plant a acre
Varies from 180,000 to 195,000 based upon quality of seed, soil type, and weed pressure.
@@GeigerFarm We're doing our first year of Organic 30 inch rows soybeans, I was planning on 144000 seeds per acre. Is this too thin for 30in rows in your experience?
Yes IMHO. But this will vary according to your environment. I have learned to plant between 185-190 for our environment. I would seriously hesitate to go below 160...and even then you better have very good seed. In drier climates, you can reduce population!

All of our row crops are in 30 inch rows.
Get yourself an Allis-Chalmers G and get-R-done one row at a time. Better yet get yourself a Ford 1710 high crop offset.
Would be a little slower ;)...
