Dreamed of, until they, (some of whom are us) advanced enough to move out into space. Now "we, they, us" come to visit to make sure the idiots up the top at the moment don't kill us all.
The population figures are inconsistent. In some cases (like London or Istanbul), the metropolitan population was given, but in most cases only the population of the city proper was given, while the picture showed the whole or most of the metropolitan area. Buenos Aires, Los Angeles and Tokyo, for example, have far more people in the area shown than the figures on the screen. As for your favorite, Brasília, it's a very unusual city and the population given includes far-away "satellite cities" as they are called. The area shown has probably about 1 million people.
there is something wrong with the curvature of the pictures schown => something aint right ! how is it at 1:43 that it is curved so much and also at the end it is flattend out and in the begining it is different also => (distorted images) 😲
it is amazing seeing the stars when away from city lights . no wonder Asimov wrote the short story titled Nightfall , worth a read + worth dim city lights even if its one night a year ~
on 00:23 France is written on the border of Belgium and Holland.. the only bright light from France is coming from Lille France the rest (brightest) is Belgium cause even the smallest roads are lightened when dark. that's why you can even see the contours of the country and it's a more orange light (streetlights)
i highly recommend visiting Prague. lots of great museums, culture, concerts, bars, nightlife. And a very beautiful city because it has not been destroyed in a war for centuries, so you can find architecture from all ages and styles, all in good shape and in use. Feels a bit like an outdoor museum.
And why avoid sub-Saharan Africa? Cape Town looks incredible from space with Table Mountain in the middle, the Cape peninsula southwards and the indentation of False Bay. One of the more geographically contorted cities in the world.
So incredible! Thank you! The music is equally impressive, and seamlessly completes the video! Even 'Flat Earthers', can appreciate the beauty and complexity of nighttime cityscapes from space! (oh wait...maybe not) I'm Not Sure
i think it looks beautiful! all those people complaining that it looks like a growing cancer should just remove themselves from being part of the problem. altho i agree that light-pollution is not favourable i must say it gives you the feeling that somebody is home. this place is inhabited by (more or less) intelligent beings. as long as it never looks like the vision at the end and you can still find dark places to gaze at the night sky, i am fine with it.
Prague is a city that started doing something about it, for street lights wherever necessary they added a reflector on top so that it only shines down, not sideways or up. And they use nighttame aerial pictures to find the worst culprits, sometimes car dealerships or construction sites or hotels really overdo it. And it works, i know Prague at night, its very beautiful, not so dark that it gets scary and you can still see the famous architecture, but the sky is noticeably darker.
Absolutely Amazing Video!!!!!!! Only one critic. Why were the great cities of Rio de Janeiro, Singapore, Mexico City, Toronto, Sydney, Mumbai, and Miami. Will there be additional videos like this in the near future?
they are that easy to see if your eye's pupils are more open (more used to darkness) as well as you need longer exposure in the camera to take the photos (camera lens works somewhat similar to eyes in that sense) look at the Sun for 1 second and look at Earth at night and you probably wouldn´t see much :)
SeanAxion12 you can do an Internet search of National Parks webcams and on some you can see the night sky and of course in the day time you would see all the beautiful part of the national park. Awesome pics.
if the image you put is about the entire metropolitan area of Milan, the indication of the population (1,3324,110 that refer only to the municipality) is ridculous.
I strongly suggest you open your mind and research the topic of: - the philidelphia experiment - the dogon people - planet sirius - sacred and natural gemoetry - horus - etc.
OH-H, far out, man!! That is out of this world! lol Really, now; I've seen the world poster of this a few years ago. Without the ID notes, it is challenging to name the places you see in lights. It is AMAZING how much light we send off into the atmosphere. Just think how interesting it would be to have public-access web-cams from the space station.
Excellent video. It would be great to include Population figures in easy-to-remember numbers and including suburbs, because we're actually seeing the whole urban area. For example: Buenos Aires, 12 million ( the figure shown is for the exact district, without its suburbs) They did it for San Francisco. However 7.1 or 7.2 or 7 million would be easier for everyone to remember.
i need to travel for a decent night sky. and here in munich most street lights illuminate anything and everything up to the 3rd floor, not just the streets, so not only can i not see many stars, i can also read newspaper at the window all night. getting a pellet gun to shoot them down is a thought that crosses my mind maybe once every week. i hope one day people will take light pollution seriously. also, making lighting more efficient and rational to save energy can be combined with it.
Im thinking you may have some errors regarding the populations of each city. cuz im thinkin theres no way theres twice as many people in san francisco as there is in LA.
The sad thing is, im not being pessimistic, im actually being realistic. I'm too tired to give you a good explanation, but if you think about it, if we dont change our ways we will not reach very far. And yes, an alien intervention is key for us to survive. And i really hope we get into contact with an alien civilization in my lifetime, simply because i am a biologist, and learning about the biology of a new species, AND the eco-system and animals on their homeplanet, is my absolute dream.
Amazing video like Always and DAMN Istanbul and LA r Huge City's 🤯 I Would love to see atleast once,Helsinki the Capital of Finland and how it looks in night from space 🇫🇮👍 Flatards are for sure saying that these stunning and 100% real pictures are fake too ffs! 😎
yes i remember those days, was only 10 years ago I had a light pollution free sky, now Melbourne light takes up 1/5th of the sky from more than 100km away in the country side where I live :(
RIP African Sub Saharan countries and many third world countries also! I hope our countries Can and will rise. Here in South Africa we are being hit Hard by power outages. Today power is out from 8 in the morning to 11 at night. Total madness! To think there are countries that are even worse off! Anyway very cool vid thanx!!
I hope that future astronauts do NOT see it like it was at the end there. I really hope that in that distant future we will have learned to utilize light better. And realize that shooting it up into the sky, everywhere like that, is pointless and detrimental to how we see our night sky. Light pollution really sucks when you live in or near a city.
Petri dish with bacteria growing in it is what came to my mind as well. LOL! Look, were little growth stuff on a watery blue planet with hard land mass. And look, we glow. Very pretty.
astronauts take these images from the ISS in their spare time. orbital characteristics, weather, and working shedule of the astronauts need to come together to make it happen.
That's not really France @ 0:23: Your label 'France' comes in hitting the south of The Netherlands, and it vanishes next to France (Calais). The bright part on the right is mostly Belgium. Great shots though in this vid.
Of could make one criticism, its population being misleading, not your fault but I think it would be best if population was for the combined metropolitan area for each city please,I mean L.A. 3 million, where as there are 19 million in the metropolitan maybe more??can be confusing.Excellent footage by the way¿??
this actually kind of depresses me because i may never be able to get far enough away from civilization to truly see the night sky.
Amazing video. How lucky we are to see such things in our days that others only dreamed of.
Very insightful thing to say! We are beyond lucky.
What are your sources? These images are in much higher resolution compared to citylumens com

I was thinking exactly the same, still beautiful footage.

WOW 🤩 THANKS FOR SHARING THIS BEAUTIFUL SCENES 🤗💚💚💚
Great music and footage. Do You know where can i get the third song ( Manolo Camp - untitled)?
Beautiful, i'd so love to be able to visit space some day
wadda ya mean your living in it right now.
@@nickacelvn lol
0:35 London, from above
0:45 Spain, looking east (Mediterranean Sea on the right)
1:03 Italy, up is west
3:00 Tokyo, up is SE
Beautiful, but it's also kind of depressing. That simulated picture at the end, how terrible would that be to have the world that populated?
it is amazing seeing the stars when away from city lights . no wonder Asimov wrote the short story titled Nightfall , worth a read + worth dim city lights even if its one night a year ~
I'm moving to Greenland... apparently it will be the only place without light pollution.
on 00:23 France is written on the border of Belgium and Holland.. the only bright light from France is coming from Lille France the rest (brightest) is Belgium cause even the smallest roads are lightened when dark. that's why you can even see the contours of the country and it's a more orange light (streetlights)
Houston!!! Cool!!! I surely didn't expect that! I can see my house!

how to get that data in GeoTiff format?
Ok, many cities that you did show is in the part 2 also. But do NASA never fly by Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland or Iceland?
Awesome video, as usual !
What are the names of the artists who compose this music?
thx a lot!!!! i was looking for this.
what is the first song called?
Absolutely Amazing Video!!!!!!! Only one critic. Why were the great cities of Rio de Janeiro, Singapore, Mexico City, Toronto, Sydney, Mumbai, and Miami. Will there be additional videos like this in the near future?
are cities really that visible from space at night or are the pictures somehow enhanced?
they are that easy to see if your eye's pupils are more open (more used to darkness) as well as you need longer exposure in the camera to take the photos (camera lens works somewhat similar to eyes in that sense)
look at the Sun for 1 second and look at Earth at night and you probably wouldn´t see much :)
Very accurate-Cant wait to see what the future looks like!
The whole of USA was green too. Maybe some kind of different filters on the cameras? Or different windows they take the shots from? : )
whats/who's the first track by?

Where can we download these images?

Show Disneyland again like you did before in Tomorrow Land. You could see the rides with people on them.

Why didn't you show Baltics / Scandinavia?
Next video would you please orient all the photos to north at the top of the screen.
Fascinating video.
Nice but I miss the dark sky and the stars big time.

Why are the lights in japan green?

we were all in this video without our consent
Stunning
It's so sad to see so many people complaining about their homes not being shown in this video. Actually, everyone's home was on display -- EARTH.

beautiful. and this time it included places around the globe, not just for u.s consumption.
Why is the Nile glowing?
no wonder alien UFO comes at night this is fascinating!

dont forget Northern Ireland :) amazing vid! :)
where do you live?
Unimaginable.
Hey! Montreal! We made the list.

so true, the last song made me sad knowing our planet will be completely ruined :(

OK. A frigging Hotel can be seen from space?! (2:00) Now that is wasteful!
After a century
At night our Earth would look like a bright small star with tiny patches
Never realized how huge Vegas is
reupload?
Splendid. Although I'd like to see Panama city and The Canal also.
Shanghai: 23 million people. My jaw just hit the ground. I have been there couple of times but Jesus these are a lot of people.
I hope that future astronauts do NOT see it like it was at the end there. I really hope that in that distant future we will have learned to utilize light better. AWESOME
Amazing!
You can see forest from space *at night*?
Petri dish with bacteria growing in it is what came to my mind as well. LOL! Look, were little growth stuff on a watery blue planet with hard land mass. And look, we glow. Very pretty.
I can't believe they showed Brasilia (in Brazil, obviously), instead of São Paulo, with a population of ~ 15 million!
astronauts take these images from the ISS in their spare time. orbital characteristics, weather, and working shedule of the astronauts need to come together to make it happen.

Where are indonesia
There's only one Indonesia
@Wally PCify and we all know that star wars is a real documentary about our planet Earth, isn't it?
Weird. You can see city lights so well from space. They don't even appear so good in a commercial jetliner.
You can't see city lights from an airplane?!
Go buy yourself a ticket and see for yourself.
Of could make one criticism, its population being misleading, not your fault but I think it would be best if population was for the combined metropolitan area for each city please,I mean L.A. 3 million, where as there are 19 million in the metropolitan maybe more??can be confusing.Excellent footage by the way¿??
Think, how much energy we must generate for this tiny light when you compare it to sun's light which is so far from here ;0)
Did I miss out not hearing the music? I had to mute the computer.
Stunning. God our creator did a great job. Too bad we're destroying it
Actually, they are making one right now. Go onto reddit and type in "hd space feed"
People disliked this clip are not aliens, not humans for sure
And other things, like patterns you might find in a slab of granite.
1:31 is very Beautiful !
I wanted to see Toronto compared to the others
With the flick of a switch you can turn off the light, bring back the lost treasure of a dark starry night!
