I loved seeing Shamu as a kid!!! Sometimes I jet ski and Mission Bay and see Sea World and have fond memories of this magnificent creature!
Shamu has been dead for years and been renamed through other imprisoned orcas
*Looking back after years have passed, I am glad I was able to see this, truly an unforgettable moment in my life*
I went to SeaWorld when I was REALLY little. Now I went back and remember EVERYTHING! I miss Shamu, it was a great show 😢
Shamu died and swimming wit orcas is illigal do to the death of a trainer. Watch blackfish, it goes over the topic really well.
@@McQueenStan mhm. there is a reason they are called killer whales and not sea ponies.
In 2010 at SeaWorld an orca drowned Dawn Brancheau - an experienced female trainer. Following this event, trainers no longer go into the water with the orcas at SeaWorld parks shows. This video is dedicated to Dawn.
The whale had probably had enough and just snapped. Imagine if you were kidnapped into a Circus and forced to perform just to survive?
Dawn will be missed, but no matter what tilikum did he still deserves to be missed, and loved.
absolutely. it's not his fault. not dawn's either, really. it's the industry. 8(
I mean 3 innocent trainers died but booooohooooo!!! The pooooor whale!!!!
@gi23to Thanks for watching and check out my playlists of videos from SeaWorld, Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Universal Studios!
The real Shamu was a mate for Seattle Famous Namu who died in captivity after 1 year while trying to escape back into the ocean to join his pod. Kieko or "Willy" was a captive whale almost his whole life, even after they released him he had not pack/pod/ family where he was released. Seaworld gives HUMANS entertainment. If you were to see these animals up close and personal you would have a different view of how precious their existence is to the global ocean environment.
Awesome !
They are the best performer
I went to a behind the scenes of this show because my school has a magnet program for this and trust me in no way they treat them cruelly.i understand how people want to free the orcas but they were born in those tanks and they would not have a chance in the wild if people just let them leave. These orcas do eat regularly, and it was a lot because I had the honor to feed it,they are not being forced to work those are just treats.
I was at this show. And too be honest it was awesome to watch. I didnt take a second and think about the whales and what they went through and how they lost thier families. Again. I had been to circuses..zoos..sea world...etc since i was a kid and it was never frowned upon. I grew up in the 80's when all this stuff was at its height. I now knowing what i know would NEVER support something like this. And im ashamed that i took part in it. Im glad that this along with other animal exhibits are now gone or dramatically improved. 🐳 ❤
This show was my childhood. It made me think that I could do anything. Seeing people being able to swim with a freakin whale was amazing.
@@jocelyn2762 I can. After two trainers were killed by SeaWorld's whales in just two months, SeaWorld was pretty right to end the swimming.

Believe was one for the books it will forever be the best shamu show there is I love 💘 Shamu
As a child I was captivated by these shows and animals and thought of them as ambassadors for their species, so I felt less bad about them being in such a small tank as they were helping educate people about ocean conservation. However then I realized as an adult these shows actually never were all that educational, and had such a manufactured pathos covering up the fact it's just a glorified circus act. Not to mention that orca being money-makers at SeaWorld actually harmed the species as other companies around the world wanted to make their own profitable orca shows and capturing orcas (and dolphins, though that started earlier) became a business unto itself. Thankfully as a species they're still prolific but certain populations of them were damaged. Animals this intelligent don't deserve to have their families ripped apart for our entertainment. :(
All that said I still thank you for the good video because it is still nostalgic memories for me as a child.
i was so happy to read comment of some of you... i'm so glad that more and more people understand that we don't need such shows.. circuses with wild animals.. breeding dogs.. cats..ets for selling... our planet is so fragile.. what will those gready people do when there are no rein forests.. lots of indangered speacies.. they also have kids.. and those kids will breath same dirty air as we do... money won't help... but gread has no limits... the only hope on changing mentality...
Kids enjoy circuses and animal entertainment (let alone their pet cat and dog). They just haven't learned to HATE themselves (as humans) as you have! Humans who aren't self-loathing naturally ENJOY seeing demonstrations of human POWER over the forces of nature. (Human LIFE would not be possible without such power.) Your problem with "greed" only betrays your resentment that others have been more successful than you, materially.
@@MrJm323 That in no way addresses whale welfare. Kids' enjoyment of circuses is not a reason to have them if the cons outweigh the pros.
Great show !!!
They are actually better to be here than in wild,
They safer and well protected,
They'll live here longer and healthier,
We can love and appreciate them here even more 🥰
It's not true, they can live to be 70-90 or more years in the wild. Even in the best parks they don't live close to that.
Like many others, I saw a show just like this as a child and I remember being so amazed by it. Now, as an adult, I can't even watch this without crying.
For those of you hating on them, a lot of these orcas are bred and raised in captivity. If they didn't want to do it, they''d still get fed. They're giant animals bigger than us. If we released them back into the wild, they'd die because we feed them, keep them healthy, and make sure they're happy. The orcas who don't do shows/tricks usually just get depressed and don't do anything. They enjoy this, and do it because of that. They're not abused, and they're quite happy. They do this kind of stuff in the wild, so the shows replicate how they'd play, except with a bit of human interaction. The whales are too tame to be released, and it's not a prison. They'd show displeasure if they didn't want to be there.
As a kid I found enjoyment in these shows. Not just these but circuses and zoos as well. It wasn’t until I got older when I realized the types of things these captive animals go thru and how inhuman it is. I will never spend another dollar to see these attractions!! Instead I will save my money to take my kids to go see these animals in their natural habitat hopefully every couple of years!
I literally don’t understand how people find enjoyment in these shows
its because these creatures are rare?
I watched a dolphin show, it was bad, I felt bad.
while seaworld I hope they feed them well and the orcas are happy
@@dotdankory Orcas aren't rare, they're actually not even endangered. They're the most widespread species on the planet after humans, and they might actually beat us because they can live just about anywhere in the ocean.
Sea World and Knotts Berry Farm were my get down as a kid. We pretty much lived at both, and I loved going to both. Now my kids have season passes only to Knott’s. I’ve never taken them to Sea World.
Shamu's was the first intentional live capture of a healthy orca. The three previous orca captures ("Wanda," Moby Doll and Namu) had been more opportunistic.
The very young, 14 foot (4.25m), 2000 lb (900 kg) Southern Resident orca was captured by Ted Griffin off Penn Cove, Puget Sound in October 1965 to be a companion for the orca Namu at Griffin's *Seattle public aquarium.*
Her name means ‘Friend of Namu’ (alternately 'She-Namu').
However, Shamu did not get along with Namu and so was sold to SeaWorld in San Diego in December 1965.
She died in 1971.
After 6 years of performance.

2:17 orkid looks so small!! She's so cute!!
I understand people like the show but after the death of a few trainers I'm glad Seaworld have learnt from their mistakes and are keeping the trainers out of the water. Right now I am learning about Orcas and how bad it is to keep them in tanks and how they are not with their families as it is better to keep them with their parents as family bonds are important with these animals. It is a beautiful show with amazing anf beautiful animals but they are dying so please be careful
no pool can replace the wide oceans. these animals don‘t exist for our pleasure.

I MISSED THIS SHOW
Dont remember people bitching this much about orca captivity in the 90's when free willy came out -_- everyone's a follower always wanting to be part of the trend but never stepping in when it really matters only when its too late.
So true! ....And more interesting, they've FORGOTTEN what happened to that 'Free Willy' orca (whose name was "Keiko"), in reality, when he WAS liberated.
@@MrJm323 You mean when he died of the same disease that killed four orcas at SeaWorld over the past three years? The one that also killed four orcas at SeaWorld during his 5 year rehabilitation. Let's be real, here, Keiko had less than a year to live at Reino Aventura. This isn't even debatable, it's agreed upon by all parties involved, including those who were against the release.
As a kid, I thought this was amazing that these whales were friends with the trainers. Also, that these whales loved what they were doing. Now I’m 45 yrs old, and realize these orcas are basically kidnapped and forced to perform just to be able to eat. It’s sad.
Since orcas are incredibly smart, I still like to think that they loved the attention they got from a show once in awhile.
It took you 40 years to learn what Free Willy taught everyone in an hour and a half? 🤷🏻♂️🤣
Orcas are intelligent they are so impressive.i love them.they are like human need to be loved and taking care of
I raised my two kids by this park. Our house used to be next to every other week. We used to go. There is very fun to see them. That's not very fun to know what happening there
Wow,i like this 😃 this is sooo Awesome !
Beautiful creature of God
to all the people criticizing this show, sea world treats their animals like royalty and the animals enjoy learning new behaviors from the trainers. Please do you research before making rude comments
Saw this show in 2008 amazing
I grew up watching these shows! Just fantastic for a kid to see, but I agree where they where kept was just way too small for them to survive properly. No wonder they were always frustrated. If they can build mega structures for oil, and everything else, then do it also for the Orca's or just leave them alone in the wild and use the money to "Protect" them there from hunters. ... people are killing them in the wild, it's our duty to protect them.
they could've done a football field size at least. They did not give them enough space.
What have you done to protect them lately? I want to o know the answer coming from someone who says it's our duty.
I think they might have a bigger place they just put them in there for the show them put them in a bigger place maybe
The whales at sea world are not being protected they are being abused sea world is apiary of the problem
I love you shru💖♥️❤️
Cool you video! What do you think about Lazarev Dolphinarium?
What name is this film, which on the screen!!!
It all looks so harmless and cute, while the truth is dark and sad. Orcas should not be in captivty, they are wild animals. Imagine being kept in a bath tub your whole life.
Laylazz UA-cam yes very true. Those tanks are the size of puddles compared to the ocean
And the thing is they don't actually have a 'relationship' with the trainers. They do all the tricks cause they know they're going to get fish in their mouths. If they don't get that fish they couldn't care less about the trainers. Notice how after every little stunt, they put fish in their mouths. These animals are supposed to swim in the ocean with their pods (families). Not hopping around in bleached water with humans.
Hjk774 1 not really. For us a pool is huge so staying in that wouldn’t be as bad. But the tanks they put these whales are not large enough. An orca can literally circle that tank in a few seconds. So comparing the size of that tank to a orca and a bath tub to a human is pretty accurate since in both you can’t move around that much
Christian Banuelos SeaWorld restricts access to tanks for all whales based on social compatibility, maintenance, etc. Generally they get one of the back tanks and one pod gets the viewing area if the park has one.
One drop the song that plays before something far greater is favorite song
i was there in i thank it was 2010 or 2011 but i did get to see this once
I kmow right, my family has never brung me to something like that.
I saw this in person
@@Cami_lla1 that comment was 7 years ago and I'm not saying that this is ok but just because he watched this show doesn't make him a horrible person
This honestly made me cry. Orcas should be in the ocean not in captivity.
I know the captivity is horrible, but isn't it amazing how this actually happens, communicate with whales to this extent! and they are able to perform this all day everyday like this.. crazy when you think about it right?
It's not really that horrible, it's a different life that's all, they adapt to it. They are mentally stimulated in others ways and are quite spoilt really. Is a dog miserable because it's kept in a yard and not roaming miles and miles like a wild dog does, dogs have way better lives then they would having to fight, hunt and survive against rivals and predotors in the wild, get injuried in the wild and there's no vet or care for you, you slowly starve to death while your wound slowly gets infected and kills you.
Never gonna have anything like this again... Gonna miss it really.
All the people that think this is a good thing, well eventually if you keep taking down Sea World for the efforts they provide, you won't have any seas creatures like this to see every again, they are being killed in the wild.
It's still better than not having any Orca's at all, which is happening in the wild. I could say the same things about your Dogs and Cats, stop pretending they are part of your families, they are wild animals until you "kidnap, torture, and imprison" them in your homes and call them PETS!

Talk about being torn
On one hand... These are amazing creatures, and it's impressive to see what they can do.
On the other... they really have no business being confined.
These animals arent being badly treated, the trainers at seaworld give them love and respect. All the behaviors seen in this video are just slightly higher adaptations of behaviors they do in the wild. They dont make the orcas do these things, they ask them.
Beautiful...

Awww that was adorable!
I love it when the people went in the water
The animals probably like it you do not know
That was so amazing!!! These whales are so lucky. I just finished watching "Backstage of SeaWorld's Believe". As someone working to become an animal trainer, these are such incredible animals. I'd be happy to work with creatures even half as magnificent.
I've seen part of The Cove, and yes I've seen Blackfish. However, The Cove does not apply to Sea World or any other US zoo (thay have refused to take part in such brutal practices) and Blackfish Was very misleading with twisted facts, and inaccurate descriptions and footage. I agree that wild animals should stay in the wild but these animals are no longer wild due to birth in captivity or inability to make it outside of captivity. So, now they are breathtaking ambassadors for those that are in the wild. Helping us learn more about the species so that others can stay where they belong. ^-^
They are still too big for those tiny tanks (the killer whales) also even if the are born in captivity they still have their instincts from their parents who were in the wild. Furthermore, why do you think the shamus attack?
I say this with highest respect to you. Just because animals have vast expanses of space in the wild does not mean they must have the same in captivity in order to be happy and healthy. Orca in the wild use all that space because they must in order to hunt and catch food. Without that necessity of moving to seasonal prey locations it stands to reason that they wouldn't need nearly as much space.
With regard to why they attack. One large reason is the same as why a pet bird attacks the owner for no apparent reason or a dog accidentally bites its master during play. To much stimulation in the moment and not thinking of the consequences of actions. The largest difference is that an overexcited Orca can do much more damage than a dog. With respect, animal behavior is much more complicated than "it attacked because it was mistreated." or "their wild so of course they'll attack." It's not that simple, that it why aquarists and any other keeper (at least in the US) spend much of their time learning behavior and getting to know the animals individually.
This is bittersweet to me. It’s definitely nostalgic but I don’t agree with having orcas in captivity
fantastic
In my opinion this is the most cruel and antinatural way of having contact with a ocean animal :(
@Richie M this, however, everyone there, especially the trainers and parents who know it's wrong deserve to be eaten
Derrick McAdoo people swim with wild orcas all the time, there's tons of footage of that. Even here on youtube.
Still no one ever got killed by wild orcas.

No matter how much I hate what sea world has done, you've got to admit it's pretty amazing. Don't hate me because my best childhood memories are there. There's more to sea world than animals... rides and water parks as well. Don't forget orcas have a connection with the trainers as well. It's the captors fault, not the trainers. They just love what they do.
Weri buateful video its amazing😘😍💋👍
Who’s watching this in 2019?
Imagine someone came and took you from your family and friends and put you in a smooth, rectangular room, maybe 500 sq ft. A few months later, another person is deposited in that room - they speak Urdu. And then a third person, who speaks French. Then the person who took you trains you to do some weird pseudo Zumba with these two random people, and if you do it right you get corn chips. And that's it - forever. You never leave the room. How pumped would YOU be?
@@lazula___7589 which orcas are those? Bc from MANY reports Sea world is known for telling lies. And they die early in Sea World anyway they die from 25-35 in captivity while in the "wild" the have a life expectancy as a human soooooo....

Wow amazing
This is so much better then the current one
I saw this as a child and thought it was amazing. But looking at the reality of it now it's very sad. The tanks are too small and they snatch babies away from their mothers and train them for audiences probably starving them. As amazing as it is to see, I don't think it's fair on the whales. Also think this came to an end when one of the whales wound up killing a trainer, who had been working with him for 15 years who had a bond. Just dangerous and cruel.
Well this is probably the most ignorant take on SeaWorld I've seen. Especially since they have made their funding public and no whales at any of their parks were born in the wild. The reason they cant release them is because at this point it is a death sentence as no orca released has ever survived whether it was wild and rehabbed or born in captivity.
Cool video
very good
It's incredibly entertaining to watch, but I'd far rather see them in the sea, not entertaining people .. it seems only a step away from dancing bears.
I like San Diego's new show better. It's less Flips, and more education - what the orcas where meant to do in the first place. It's not the ocean, but it's better than flipping whales.
+TheFalconF7 Well Orlando's entire issue is that its being kept in a pool. I've never been to San Diego's, but obviously its also being kept it a pool as well. The orcas weren't meant to educate. Neither San Diego's nor Orlando's are being kept in an appropriate environment. They're both equally shitty.
