Opponents to the gospel really know how to twist things. In Sweden, where I live it goes a little bit like this. They say salvation is by repentance and faith. Repentance as turning from sin. Then salvation is just forgiveness of past sins, in order to keep saved you need to live accordingly (usually not defined). So grace, they mean, makes you "live accordingly" so if you don't you're not saved (faith without works is dead). Ten years in evangelical churches and I never heard the clear gospel once. Not once as I can recall it. Tons of sermons on prophesying, on Christian living on just any other thing but the gospel. They New Covenant explained. Its even worse, the true gospel is being mocked as easy believism.
Yankee Arnold is actually who the Apostle Jude warned about Jude 4 For CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS whose CONDEMNATION WAS WRITTEN ABOUT LONG AGO HAVE SECRETLY SLIPPED IN AMONG YOU THEY ARE UNGODLY PEOPLE WHO PERVERT THE GRACE OF OUR GOD INTO A LICENSE FOR IMMORALITY AND DENY JESUS CHRIST OUR ONLY SOVEREIGN AND LORD.
+Stephen Bussey Yes I guess we were taught that everything good needs our work, but that's the reason Jesus Christ did it all, so we couldn't say we did anything
Obedience to God is not works: The Apostle Paul said that he was no longer a sinner after he came to know Jesus and received the Holy Spirit. Paul said, "At one time (past tense) we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior..." Titus 3:3-6 Notice, Paul said that Jesus saved them from disobedience through the Holy Spirit. Paul became a true man of God who preached against sin. It wouldnt make sense for a sinner to preach against sin. The bible calls that a hypocrite which Paul was not. Paul also told us that Jesus only gives the Holy Spirit to those who obey him. Paul said, "And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him." Acts 5:32 Scripture says that Paul was not a sinner and sinners do not have the Holy Spirit living in them.
It doesn’t matter if people are trying to earn salvation through Torah, God never taught earning righteousness. Nor are there examples of this. Grace didn’t abolish the Law and grace didn’t appear for the first time when Jesus came. Grace came in the flesh but the grace of God, before Jesus came, was at work because the Old Testament saints couldn’t earn salvation. That’s why grace was given because no one was ever able to earn salvation. When Jesus came Judaism did believe in earning heaven but these were man’s Laws and God never taught this. So Jesus and the apostles fought against this earning salvation through the Law when the whole time they were still under condemned by the Law thus the scripture that says “under the Law”. Everyone past, present and future who are born again by grace through faith who loves God, wants to obey God, worship God, live like the example of God the Son in 1 Peter 2:21,22 (sin in 1 Jn. 3:4 is transgression of God’s Law) aren’t trying to earn salvation nor are we replacing the Law for the blood of Christ or grace. Just because people say that doesn’t make it true. It’s a terrible misunderstanding.
Jeffro P. Koaltrain The misunderstanding that Pastor Arnold is trying to clear up is the idea that my own goodness, in any way, aids me gaining entrance to heaven. It’s a hard thing for people to grasp but we must to be saved.
Jesus tells us what is required to be saved. Mark 1:15 The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. REPENT and BELIEVE the good news!” Peter confirms this in Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, REPENT, and be BAPTIZED every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS, and YE SHALL RECEIVE the GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST. Acts 3:19 REPENT ye therefore, and BE CONVERTED, THAT YOUR SINS MAY BE BLOTTED out,WHEN the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now COMMANDETH ALL MEN EVERY WHERE TO REPENT.
