- Petrified Wood: Jack and Colton are in Petrified Forest National Park where ancient history is on display everywhere you look. They are hiking to Jasper Forest - the highest concentration of petrified wood in the world. Most fossilized trees and other types of vegetation become petrified wood. This is the result of the organic matter in the tree being replaced with minerals while still retaining the original structure of the wood, a process called permineralization. As we continue our hike, we spot evidence of a creature that lived here 225 million years ago and shards of pottery from an Old Pueblo site.
Petrified wood found in Petrified Forest National Park is made up of almost solid quartz. Each piece is like a giant crystal, often sparkling in the sunlight as if covered by glitter. The rainbow of colors is produced by impurities in the quartz, such as iron, carbon, and manganese. Over 200 million years ago, the logs washed into an ancient river system and were buried quick enough and deep enough by massive amounts of sediment and debris also carried in the water, that oxygen was cut off and decay slowed to a process that would now take centuries: bit.ly/2KQ9wUp

It would be SO hard not to take some home with you. That rainbow petrified wood is just beautiful.
My family was just there last week, very hard not to take some. We did buy over 50 pounds worth at the petrified wood company just outside the park.
They scare ppl saying you cant take any because it will be cursed.. the gift shop had all these rocks with letters that were mailed back telling about all their bad luck.. fires,accidents, and death... but here's the catch,you can buy it from the gift shop and you'll be ok🤣😂.. they were a little pricey... I dont let fear control me and came home with pockets full... that was in 1993 and i still have them 30 years later...
The problem is i'm pretty sure they have someone watching you with binoculars in case you steal.

I've got a chunk of petrified wood about 6 inches in diameter and 12 inches long. Some tenant in Boulder left it at a rental that I occupied in the 1980's and I've kept it ever since, moving it from Colorado, to Michigan, and back again. It survived two divorces which is probably more significant as far as ownership than the millions of years!
I can’t believe this has had a lot fewer views it deserves! This is a video that should be viewed by at least a quarter of a million! We just found a very tiny piece of petrified wood from our son and kids always like ricks and fissures stuff! Subscribed!

Before the rain, this atmosphere was very different. Trees were HUGE, people lived hundreds and hundreds of years. That's part of the REAL Earth history.

A great video. Just that the tree rocks scattered everywhere are the branches and twigs fallen from the colourful remains of the giant 'mother' trees. The first 6 seconds and then from 15 to 20 seconds is spot on!

I still have a scar from circa 1982 where I got bitten by fire ants in my yard in Louisiana. I only remember the memory of the pain, but I can still picture the puss. The scar is still visible, but its joined by beaucoup scars that both persisted or that have disappeared over the years.

In the video one guy said, "If it wasn't for the outside we would not know this was petrified wood." I was wondering if that was true or are there some tests that can be run to determine if a rock is just a rock or if it's petrified (wood). Is it merely because it looks like it was once a tree the only reason we know it was once a tree?

It is an incredible natural process for wood to become stone. However, we humans cannot keep up with this process. In the Central region of Brazil it is also possible to find specimens of petrified tree trunks.
My son and I look for petrified wood / bone when we are in eastern Colorado on a dry creek bed. He found 51 and I 43 pieces this weekend. I have posted videos on my channel
The fossilized woods still look like a wood and it is gorgeous and it is like a crystal and you don't take it at home 🪵🪵🪵

When I was a kid I asked my teacher if petrified wood looks like that, what are the mountains.
A lot of mountains and mesa most certainly are ancient trees turned to stone. It would not be a big deal and they would tell us but there is one little problem.. something cut down these mile wide 10 mile high trees clean off the stump millions of years ago. Gotta keep a wrap on human origins I tell you it is incredibly frustrating we can't get a straight answer about our past. Devils tower is indisputably a massive old tree. 🤷 Mainstream covers it up because it means aliens.

Who cut the trees down ? How did they get cut into almost regular size chunks with smooth cuts on both ends ? Seems to be a lot of oxidization in them too, is the red because of iron, and not haematite ? Not sure if you are sure of your facts !

those are Red Harvester ants. commonly confused for fire ants.

Most of the petrified wood in North America is from conifers, rather than flowering trees. At the time these forest existed, conifers were the more dominant species even in subtropical forests.

The pieces where the weak lines go along the grain would probably continue to degrade into smaller pieces until they were lost to history. Like almost all trees that ever grew.

You also failed to mention that forest is also said to be very haunted, and that allegedly people who’ve stolen pieces return them after getting diagnosed with disease, or having loved ones die etc.
I've seen Fallen trees that are broken before and those are not it those look like they've definitely been sawed

Frankie Rock - I agree with you ! They all have neatly level cuts on both ends. If a tree falls and petrifies, wouldn't it all stay in one piece as one solid rock tree. Why are these chunks scattered over miles, they are heavy ! Should stay in one place !
Ever get a rock and it crack in a straight line? Same thing happened here, especially from the cylinder shape of the tree trunk
