    The worst itch I've ever experienced was when I got an itch that feels like it's under my skin. It kept being itchy until 10 minutes afterwards where the itch finally subsides. It felt so annoying, I wanted to rip my skin off and scratch what's underneath just to feel relief

    I don’t recommend telling someone to stop scratching. I’ve had pretty severe eczema my whole life and growing up people would always tell me not to scratch and low key it’s rude and insensitive. Especially after trying to suppress the urge to scratch all day (because it’s already embarrassing.) I’ve definitely got heated with my family members/ coaches who would tell me not to scratch.

  • @miawallace2306
    @miawallace2306 2 роки тому +846

    The worst was when I had hay-fever my senior year of high school. My eyes felt like they had hundreds of microscopic mosquito bites inside them. After several days of not being able to sleep and rubbing all my skin off around my eye sockets, I put scorching hot water mixed with salt directly into my eyes to finally get some relief. It was the most satisfying searing pain because the itchy feeling subsided for a few minutes. I ended up abrading my cornea and scratched that so much, I abraded the abrasion and ended up tearing the inner membrane. I ended up having to wear a patch and take 4 different kinds of drops to try and heal my eye for a month. I still have a tiny scar inside my eye but luckily, I didn’t lose any of my vision.
    Itching can legitimately drive people to insanity and serious injury.

    Fifty years of coping with itchy skin has led me to try many means of relief. My eczema can be maddeningly itchy but I cope with it by irrigating the skin with hot water, beginning at a low temp and gradually increasing the heat until pain overtakes the itch. This prevents the itch from returning for many hours. It effectively removes the itch from 'roids too (you read that right). It feels great and removes the itch for usually the entire day.

    I have eczema. I can say that while watching the video I wasn’t itching uncontrollably, actually I didn’t scratch at all because I have had to find ways to ignore and itch to protect my skin. However I have had moments when I can’t stop. There is nothing like having an itch you can’t get rid of. It spreads and spreads. There’s no stopping it. There’s been moments where I want to bite my arm off to get rid of it (but obviously I’m not actually going to do something like that). So it can get out of control. I have steroids to help but sometimes they don’t. I have cried trying to ignore an itch multiple times. The other day at work I had a bug bite on my eczema prone arm. I had to leave work because it was unbearable.

I now take taltz which is also an auto-inject shot but it is so painful. It works wonderfully but it hurts so bad. Dermatologists usually start with methotrexate which is a pill before starting shots but they skipped over that for me. I had melanoma prior to the shots and I've had it along with many dysplastic moles (not cancer but headed that way) that had to be remove. It's just another wonderful genetic mystery in my family.

    Something I found can kinda help is during a big itch try running your itch under cold or warm water. The sensation of the temperature change can help to calm down the stimulated itch. Once your itch comes back to room temp it might start again but by then hopefully you’ve taken your mind off it enough & can continue with your time.

Also, it’s not bugs, and like 7 Cioc said it’s an autoimmune disease. So what happens is when we scratch is we are basically diluting the foreign chemical with moisture on our skin
      So whenever when you feel like big itching like(ant sting = ant injects formic acid which causes that terrible pain) apply water (diluting the chemical) on that part of skin or atleast saliva😂 its a lot better than the rash left after scratching

    But why do wounds itch so much?? It's very unpleasant to scratch and can cause severe pain. Yet, no matter if it's a paper cut or a deeper wound, it's always itchy when healing.
    Does the body mistake scabbing or skin tightening while healing as a outside threat like a parasite? Seems counter productive!

    • @darkmario720
      @darkmario720 6 років тому +3

      Maybe it's a signal to keep the spot clean since in ancient days we didn't have anything to clean wounds with so it makes sense to scratch off any dirt on a spot that could get infected.

      @@diemilchgesichter2411 well sure, but it also could have been a "something is better than nothing" type of situation where there might have been more dirt on a wound if left alone than there would if scratched. Think of when a wild cat cleans itself with its tongue, their tongue is not by any means the cleanest thing in the world but it's better than whatever is on their body. In any case I'm just guessing here.
