    Man, Sigma is on a roll with all of their new Art glass. I will say though, I wouldn't hesitate to pay $100-200 more per lens to have weather sealing.

    Mr. Frost, thank you for posting soooooo many wonderfully concise reviews on all these lenses. I just wanted to let you know that as soon as I see ANY lens I'm interested in (which is often as I love glass haha), I pop the name into the search box specifically looking for your review before I go ANY further on the idea of it at all. Thank you for the excellent work. Even the legacy reviews are extremely helpful. (especially in the age of adapted lenses)

    I‘ve got that lens on my 5Dc/5D MK 2 combo, and I really love it! The image quality is spot on perfect, and the weight is alright. I‘m also using a 50mm 0.95 lens for portraits, and I HATE to carry it around cause it‘s super heavy, I think the sigma art is perfectly fine when it comes to weight and size.
    Btw, I never stop down those kinda lenses, it just fits my style of work

    I scooped up this lens yesterday afternoon with a blackmagic 4k.. NOW I see why this lens is such a beast mode with the price. Just the reflection of the glass you can tell it's pure quality compared to even some decent glass.

    Well, after watching dozens of your videos and some multiple times, I'm leaning towards the 24mm for my wide angle lens. It seems the most practical rather than an ultra wide for my purposes. I almost pulled the pin on the 15mm Blackstone but the 95mm filters are insanely expensive and I likely wouldn't get the regular use out of it. I'm not sure I'd spend the money on this one though, it's a bit pricy! That leaves the Canon cheap and cheerful version, though still nit that cheap, or the chip-less manual focus Rokinon 24mm 1.4 for about the same money. Tough decision!

    Vignetting - Why would that be a problem? As soon as I load the images into Lightroom and apply the lens profile, all vignetting is gone. Same goes for barrel distortion.

    I'm back from my 2 week trip to Japan. I have to say, the 24 Art is very good indeed. Sharp and low CA (I shot mostly at f/4-f/8). I use it on a Canon 6D. It's wonderful for shooting temples up close or the huge temples at Nara. I purchased a CP for it while there. I can't really comment on the AF performance too much as the 6D has a mediocre focusing system. I didn't have any issues shooting buildings. I am very happy with it and can't wait until the 85 comes out. I want to compare it to the Tamron.

      If you want a more out of focus background then the 35 will be best. Regarding aperture, they're all f/1.4 so they should all be as bright as each other for shooting at night time

    What about autofocus on these lens (Sigma Art in general)? I really want this lens but I'm afraid the AF will be inconsistent on my 7D2. I see many people complain. Because what good is the sharpness for, when it can't focus properly and 8 of 10 photos are not tack sharp.

  • @DavidsOldChannel
    @DavidsOldChannel 9 років тому

    You must have gotten really great copy, because from what I saw this lens has CA like crazy. For 24mm 1.4 the focus speed is really good, but focus accuracy is terrible. When I tried it, most of my shots were miss focused.
    As always, nice review.

  • @loganobrien9115
    @loganobrien9115 8 років тому

    Question! How would a 24mm image compare with that of a ~14mm lens on a crop sensor (so about 22mm)? I'd like to go pretty wide on my 80d for night sky photography but not so wide that it looks too unnatural for more everyday use stills/video. Does the smaller sensor crop out most of the "stretchiness" on the edges of an ultra wide?
    Trying do decide if I should go for a wide lens with less of a crop (like sigma's f1.8 zoom, don't want to spend a lot though) or an ultrawide like a ef 14mm with the crop factor?

    • @christopherfrost
      @christopherfrost  8 років тому +1

      It's up to you really. If I were doing astrophotography on an 80D I'd go for the Sigma 20mm f/1.4, or the Samyang 16mm f/2

    Great review, those Sigma ART lenses look really slick and seem to perform very well. I was wondering if you could do a review of the Samyang 10mm f/2.8? It seems like a good fast ultra-wide angle lens but I would like to hear your opinion after a test :)

  • @ryuman757
    @ryuman757 6 років тому

    Have definitely been wanting to get a nice full-frame wide angle for my Sony A7ii for a long while. Was thinking I'd have to go with the Zeiss 18mm 2.8, but I wanted something faster. I saw Sigma came out with a 14mm 1.8 for E-Mount, which looked really enticing, but the $1600 price tag was pretty off-putting for me. I think this 24mm 1.4 would be perfect.

    Eagerly waiting mine for the Z6 system!!!
    Got it because of the manual focus (other then superior quality) so I can use it on my Rhino ARCII Slider Focus... the Nikon Z lens have “wired focus” so you cannot - predictably - set focus points (plus Z lenses focus breath)
    Use the Nikon Z 85mm f1.8 because I want autofocus for Rhino Follow shots where the actor headshot are moving about a bit!
    But pulling focus in studio needs manual focus lenses!

    I am on the lookout for a fast telephoto and good wideangle (below 24 mm) mainly for astrophotography uses with my Canon 6D. And I was wondering if you had the chance to test the 14 mm Samyang (Walimex) f2.8. I am considering it good value for money - but I am bit worried about distortion levels - so I would be very interested in your opinion.

      @@GoodManPictures Did you get the Sigma lens? Does Sigma support DPAF (Dual Pixel Autofocus) and changes to AF Speed and AF Response settings on Canon Cinema EOS?

    • @GoodManPictures
      @GoodManPictures 6 років тому

      @@PixelremixRetouch I got it but haven't used it much to assess or share feedback. Currently I am making some short videos in limited time and when I used Sigma 24mm, I was quickly missing face detector feature of STM lens so I shift back. I plan to use 24mm in future for indoor videos but for that I would be using manual focus.

    • @PixelremixRetouch
      @PixelremixRetouch 6 років тому

      Ok seems like you are having problems with the AF then. But I am wondering why that is the case though DPAF should be working fine. Also I just did some research and in genera face detection is part of the camera not of the lens. STM only affects the speed of focus not the functionality itself. So I am also puzzled why the face detection features is apparently not working with the Sigma lens. Have you done a firmware update and/or visited a camera shop for calibration?

      good bokeh

    • @Ripinda1911
      @Ripinda1911 9 років тому

      Yes. The EF-EF-M adaptor will let you mount any EF lens.

    Hi Chris, nice review. quick question for you... do you think this would be a good lens for landscape, street and astro photography? I'm looking for something that hopefully works with all of them although i understand it probably isn't that simple.
