  • An adult mouse brain stained for TH to visualize the dopaminergic neurons.
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter and dopaminergic neuronal circuits are involved in several brain functions, including motor coordination, executive function, reward, motivation, learning, and neuroendocrine control. Using 3D imaging of the whole brain it is possible to quantify dopaminergic cell bodies, projections and terminals.
Dysfunction in dopaminergic pathways has been implicated Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, ADHD and drug abuse. Brain reward circuits that control food intake also plays an important role in obesity.
