Customer: "Cute cat! What's its name?" Randall: "Annoying customer."
I adore Kevin Smith and the majority of his movies. Loved him ever since I first laid eyes on Mallrats. It really irks me how much grief he seems to get online.
One of the greatest movies ever made. I watch it at least once a year.
Just watched it after turning 25 loved it as a kid growing up last time I saw was 19 ima def make this a thing
I really love this little UA-cam channel, it brings me so much joy. I've been watching for about 2 years now and always find myself coming back. COMFY VIBES LADS!
Indeed and also agreed.
I loved this movie. I used to work at a bakery with a friend of mine. He reminds me of Randall. And instead of hockey on the rooftop, we'd have wrestling matches in the inventory area.
In a row?!?
No name drop for Walt Flanagan? He’s the guy with multiple roles, tell em Steve Dave
I love this movie! For someone who has worked in retail, it's so relatable. Absolute masterpiece!
They were drinking from Gatorade in a glass bottle. You gotta be seasoned to remember those days.
I remember when Spike Lee’s first film was released, “She’s Gotta Have It.” Spike Lee was outside the Brooklyn theater where I saw the film selling and signing t-shirts. I wish I kept mine. I tell this story in salute of those gorilla film makers who begged, borrowed, and dug deep into their own pockets to make their films like Robert Townsend (The Hollywood Shuffle), Ed Burns (The Brothers McMullen), John Singleton (Boyz in the Hood - RIP), Kevin Smith and even George Romero to name a few. I wish that passion and ingenuity existed today. Thanks for the review guys. 😊😊😊
Oh it does, check out Tangerine
My favorite Kevin Smith film!
I've slept in closets and bathrooms, not because I was drunk, but because I didn't want the sun to wake me up.
Aww.... been waiting a year for your review of Dogma, buuuut--- this will do! I love Kevin Smith's earlier works
Just wanna say you guys have made life that much easier for me these last few years. It isn’t always easy, but I know at the end of the day, I’ve got Gary and Iain to watch. 😂 You guys rock. 🤘🏾
Edit: 37:48 - 😆
I was watching your child’s play review yesterday and was thinking the exact same as you Iain, I miss walking round blockbusters and renting out DVDs. It was a whole occasion where you’d get loads of sweets and coke as well and it was a thing. As much as I love Netflix and similar streaming, they killed that
Kevin Smith is the most amazing public speaker, lecturer and storyteller - check out his stories about working on his script for Superman Lives and shooting the documentary at Paisley Park for Prince.
To answer your question, originally Dante did NOT make it to the end of his shift since the original ending had him shit dead by a robber at the end.
Got do do clerks 2 now
Excellent review! I love you guys! Recently I began writing film reviews for a local newspaper and I'd like to thank you for the inspiration and all the wonderful things you share!
Now Kevin Smith cries at Disney Star Wars to help sell it and he wokified He-Man. How the mighty have fallen.
Yeah man, was a hero of mine growing up. After Zack and Miri it’s all downhill. Now all his shit is influenced by his woke daughter. His social media is repulsive.
Yup sadly it's true he's riddled with wokeness and its very disappointing.
A rundown and breakdown of Kevin's Smith's movies would be great!
The head of Miramax walked out of the movie when they were doing the no smoking part. The second viewing, the assistant kept telling him wait till 37
Who is the head of Miramax who brought Clerks to the world? What a hero
@@oldrestless Harvey Weinstein
I watched this as a video rental with my dad when it was new. We were on the floor literally unable to stop laughing at some of the jokes. Very memorable experience. Movie didn’t hold up so well long term but I’ll never forget that fun time with my dad so long ago.
Classic gem.
the documentary in the special edition DVD is interesting. One guy bob hawk watched the movie because he liked the title. Bob brought it to the attention of independent film critics and it got it into the cannes film festiva
The clerks 10 year anniversary DVD and the wall DVD with like 3 commentaries and 2 or three whole entire new songs, and then the fight club fancy 2 disc DVD all three are all the best DVD I know of. Anyone else have recommendations?
Snappy dialogue. That's my reason for liking Kevin Smith films and would adopt something similar if I ever made a movie.
I saw the movie thanks to a local video store in my Hometown, place was great, I will shout it out. "Video Escapades" I think it's still there, it is on 175th street and Kennedy Ave, in Hammond Indiana. The movie was known about, bunch of whispers and talk about this big thing that came out, but being able to get a release copy for the rental stores was hard, but the owner of Video Escapades, in Hammond IN, had a behind the corner collection of bootlegs, and that's how I saw the movie. I think the owners name is scott, if you see him shout out that he's got some international cred.
He was the kind of guy who would order ANY movie you mentioned if he hadn't seen it, so he would pay the retail rental prices (like 80 to 200 bucks back then) just so he could rent that movie to you, and so he could see it and then recommend it.
I LOVE IT when Jay and Bob first come on the scene. Jay takes off the coat and just starts shadow boxing lol. Bob pointing out fools to get beat down🤣
I was about say King Diamond, but that was on part II... This is good also. Great!
Didn't think you guys were supposed to be here today!
The chewlies guy looks like Peter Sutcliffe.
God how good was this movie???? I mean, for real: this directly led to "Chasing Amy", "Mallrats", "Dogma"....and everything else Kevin Smith has given us (I personally love bits of Daredevil 2003....so take that and smoke it). I mean...he has to have given us like...37 different amazing things at least.
This movie and Richard Linklater's Suburbia practically defined my adolescence.
Yes! It's OTSR time! Have a great day/night, Shelfers! 👊 👊 👊
Clerks is a stationary roadmovie.
Truth. It's the "Easy Rider" for Gen-X.
It has been years since I saw Clarks. I remember researching over and over when it was on VHS back when I was a kid.
I remember the first time I ever watched this movie it was right before an amazing party…. Memories. Great review guys 👊👊
I have totally woken up in a cupboard. And one special time I passed out and got woken up in the street gutter
I dont know if you guys ever do requests but it you could start reviewing Martin Scorsese movies (Taxi Driver is my favorite) it would mean the world to me!
Randall being bored with his dead end job is kind of weird because he remained working at a dead end job even in 2
They were still at the quick stop, move to working at Mooby’s then at the end they go back to quick stop themselves
Clerks 3 guys clerks 3
It exists
Kevin and the cast has already filmed it
awesome classic film
The best! Brings me right back to high school. Man, we would watch this movie constantly! Much love! Xoxo
The hangover review 😎🤓
Is Dante wearing a House of pain t-shirt in the movie ? :)
Thanks guys I’ve been waaiiiiittttting
So that's where marvel's defenders got its cover inspiration from. Who knew
I'm having deja Vu.
*Turn Up* again. Lol
For been a low budget independ film is well made and have style, is honest in the way all this situations go through, while the characters performances are believable and likeable, also the movie capture the escense of that generation and that is what make it especial as well.
It was an awesome Gen X film. Great combination of a hangout film and a black comedy.
Thanks guys, I haven't seen this in years
Fuck! I love Clerks! It's been FOREVER since I've seen this one! Classic as all hell! I've got to buy this again! Thanks for reviewing this one you guys!!
Once a year I'll take a day to watch a triple feature with Clerks, Waiting..., and Clerks 2. Didn't care for Still Waiting....
This movie is such a classic. It's disappointing that Clerks 2 falls apart at every seam, at least in my opinion. Great review as always guys
I think Clerks 2 is a slicker, but still fun sequel, which is rare when it comes to comedies.
Awesome! this should be a good one!
I thought Clerks was okay-ish. Honestly I thought Mallrats was funnier. There's a LOT of obvious script-reading in Clerks(not that I blame them with long dialogue like that)
We didn't see this Movie upon release, for... reasons. We had kids by the time Clerks came out and Life just gets in the way sometimes.
I have been left with a feeling that I have missed out on an Important Movie Event. A Significant moment in History that changed the Movie Industry and influenced the way Movies are made. We do not get second chances. There are no Time Machines. And seeing Clerks now, just isn't an impactful experience. It is like watching Voyage Dans La Lune 120 years after its initial release.
Lol Ian and Gary look like Kevin
And anyway, there was that carwash movie where the exact same ending happens-- an employee comes back with a gun, robs the place and kills the guy.
Leon, played by Ivan Dixon, didn't get killed at the end of "Car Wash". You're remembering that movie in a wrong way.
@@Madbandit77 Robbery, gun, clerk-- who gives a shit. I'd bet that NEITHER of these movies want to be remembered by YOU AT ALL!
@@devinpaul9026 What's your problem?
@@Madbandit77 Some nerd won't shut the hell up.
Another classic
HEY . LOOK . IT'S HUGO DRAX AGAIN ON SCREEN !
You guys are great and so funny keep up the good work and stay safe!
Figures that british Silent Bob wud b fan of Kenvin Smith.
And he demasculated He-Man as well
Always heard a lot about this movie! Plus I saw a cat, I must approve! 🐈
Kevin Smith peaked with Dogma. I can't even watch his stoned era movies, although Reboot was OK.
I love this. It has a lot of trailer park boys type filming which I like
Weird, I had an inking you'd be doing this next. Good film, and a good example to show to young filmmakers how much you can do with so little. Kevin Smith used to be an idol of mine. But in the last few years, I've outgrown him and his movies. I don't mean to sound derogatory towards those who still enjoy his stuff, it's just for me, I no longer relate his films or his style anymore. Shit, forty year old me would not get on with twenty year old me!
👍
woot! this movie was fresh. ya!
No way
I think jay and silent bob devolved! The original jay and bob were awesome, then kevin smith added more expressions and shit to silent bob. Goofy bob was born. Clerks 1 Bob is cool
I'm the last scion.
You should do ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK/L.A.
The sequel is better
I like this movie ,but calling Kevin Smith "one of the greatest directors ever" is a stretch if i ever heard one.
Maybe not the most talented filmmaker but respect must be due to the man, not only did he create his own career by pulling up his own bootstraps, but by Affleck's own admission, Good Will Hunting wouldn't have happened without Smith.
I’d say clerks is one of the best films of all time but Kevin smith never came close after that
This is an INTERESTING movie that could have BEEN actually good with just a slight amount more skill/budget behind it. The second one goes slightly TOO far with what THIS one SHOULD have been, but somewhere BETWEEN them, an exact mark is hit.
