I bought his book a few years ago and use it as a reference often when writing. Can’t say enough about how useful it is to trick people into thinking I’m funny.
Mr. Steve Kaplan, if you’re reading this, thank you so much for your insight on comedy..I’ve taken comedy at the Second City, and I.O. Theater in Chicago back in 2011(it’s been awhile since I’ve taken classes} and just watching your interview has gotten me to fall in love again with comedy when I first took classes...
This video has all but saved my life! Comic characters only take positive action. Brilliant. I've been trying to write this comic antagonist for years and getting stuck because I can't make her mean enough. So what I'm getting is that I don't need to think about what would be mean or funny; she just needs to want things that are totally at odds with the MC, and feel free to really go for them.
This was a super insightful interview and such an interesting guy. He says a lot of stuff that I thought about myself but I've never heard it come from someone else. It's nice to know that you're not the only one, it's very encouraging. I love all of the stuff that you guys are doing, it's very much appreciated because it's necessary.
Film Courage These videos give a different, insightful, and serious view of the film industry. Usually when you see interviews about people in the business, it's always some quirky Q&As by Popsugar or something of the like. Questions like "what were some funny moments on set?" Additionally, those interviews and press mainly focuses on the actors and maybe the directors. I mean it's not only 5 people who made a feature film but you only see those 5 people. Plus, there is no information on what it's like being an actor, screenwriter. In fact you only know about someone in showbiz after they get famous and their person is shadowed by their celebrity. Furthermore, it also gives people who want to break into the business more guidance, motivation, and encouragement. The business is designed to make you quit i think.
Zorocanify We really appreciate you taking time to share some additional feedback with us. We aren't fans of light and fluffy interviews. We try to get as much substance out of our guests are they are willing to give us. Interesting point about "their person being shadowed by their celebrity." Is there any topic that is of particular interest to you that you would like to see more of? Thanks again.
Another great interview on Film Courage. I love hearing Kaplan talk. His book is sure to be another from Film Courage interviewees that I'll be buying.
Wow! The best interview I've heard so far, so interesting and informative. Steve, I could have sat and listened to you all day, but as a new writer I have to crack on. Wish you ran workshops in Cardiff UK, I'd sign up in a heart beat.
Thank you for watching, Ademar! We have a new series of interview with Steve Kaplan, starting with this one here: ua-cam.com/video/svkdfdtP-fM/v-deo.html
Howard Koor Thanks Howard, this is a glimpse into what it is like taking Steve Kaplan's comedy intensive. You not only learn a great deal about comedy but storytelling in general.
Thanks Steve! Great pointers and great insights into the inner workings of comedy. You helped me see why some of my comedy scenes worked, why others didn't and what principals I could employ to make them all work.
wow this is so amazing, I had to take notes, very helpful. I am not really writing comedy but I was curious, I think this guy is a genius and so genuine and generous to share his vast knowledge. thank you so much.
Hi ! It would be amazing if you could add subtitles to the video. Or let youtube generate subtitles. In English or in French. Thank you for this wonderful interview ! :)
Hey gys. Do you have any material on how different genres of movies differs one from another from the script perspective? Thanks for TV shows by the way )))
You can definitely do what we do. Start a blog, podcast, or video channel. And when you bring people onto your platform you'll be in control of the questions. You don't have to give that much. The cost is minimal... other than the time it takes.

The opening story was hilarious. Who thought teaching homicidal sociopaths to be better liars would be a good idea? 🤣🤣🤣

Steve! You should probably read _Without Conscience_ by Robert Hare, if you haven't already. It will help put your prison experience into context.
I've added it to my library queue.
