I have about the same story. I left for Germany. It is 21 years later. I am still in Germany. Maybe France is what you needed. You don't owe your parents anything. Your happiness should be their happiness. If it's not like that, then they have a problem.
Of course, one wants to have the support of your patents in life. Unfortunately, parents often have selfish goals with their children and do not allow them to grow into individuals, but expect them to serve the "family goal." To break free from this sort of slavery is very brave and noble. It might not feel like that at first.
