No. It doesn’t damage the lift. It’s part of the lift’s specification to be able to stop like that. Some lifts even have an emergency stop button inside the lift. Some lifts go out of service when you break safety while it’s moving though.

I am not going to question how the hell that gen2 lost position with only 2 floors.
