Shin Megami Tensei is great. Persona is great. If you're into turn based JRPGs, you can't really go wrong with either series, and should probably try both eventually.
I am so offended that you think Dante is cooler then me >:( Jokes aside great video as always I personally like this game a lot not one of my favourites but still a fan of it tho... seriously seeing anything Raidou related nowadays puts a smile on my face even if most people will just play with Dante.
The popular theory regarding Hijiri is that he is a reincarnation of Aleph the protagonist SMT 2 whom YHVH cursed upon his deafeat. Aleph would be reincarnated for all of eternity only to die a cruel and miserable death.
@yq That’s true there is no conclusive evidence to support the claim that Hijiri is Aleph. Although Atlus likes to play fast and loose with the continuity of its titles. Perhaps we can look at it as one posibile outcome just as SMT:Apocalypse is an alternative narrative for the neutral ending of SMT IV. It’s just fun to speculate as we may never really know the answer and perhaps it’s best that way.
IV and IV Apocalypse are definitely the more beginner friendly games, Strange Journey is more beginner friendly than Nocturne, despite also being touted as one of the more difficult SMT games. Anyway, great vid! I'm definitely subscribing! Edit: Why did I type in 4 Apocalypse instead of IV Apocalypse?
I think the Nocturne remaster was a decent. I do think Atlus could've done more with the music quality, but I think it could've been worse. Still, I don't think this game is the holy grail no matter what version you play.
4 and 4 Apocalypse would definitely be a lot better pill to swallow for newbies to the series, IMO...the demon negotiation in 4 not withstanding. Seriously, last time I started a new game on it, it took me like...a dozen or so tries to recruit a demon in the first dungeon, not joking. RNGesus was out for blood that day.
One thing with the music is that the OST Version only uses the one pre-defined Riff for the Themes where as the game actually actively pulls 1 of 7 or so Random Riffs to splice in at any given time... So I guess that since they don't have all those initial Source Files of the Base Song and the Individual Riffs it was not possible 🤷
really cool you're getting into smt, glad you're trying these games out despite the unwelcoming fans. havent played nocturne myself yet, but i highly recommend iv and iv apocalypse if you're still interested in playing games other than smt v.
I hear your criticism about the game's characters, but that comes down to how SMT does things differently from Persona. In SMT, you're not supposed to get attached to the characters. Characters are nothing more than a catalyst for the story to happen. They intentionally don't give you much for the characters so that they don't affect your judgement for what Ending you want to go for. This applies for pretty much all MegaTen games, with Persona being one of the few exceptions. Also a quick correction, the Remaster wasn't based on the Maniax edition of the game. It was based on the Chronicles edition of the game, which released exclusively in Japan as part of a special release of one of the Raidou games. This version of the game is where Raidou in place of Dante comes from.
Nocturne is really nice game to play for the gameplay, it's really great because the story itself is really interesting but stop at that. Interesting themes, concepts and ideas but seems like the game was rushed and they could'nt do more with characters , reasons and endings. It's pretty clear how much better True Demon Ending from almost every aspect compared to the reasons. As you said , the characters are kinda whatever because they never let you know about them before they goes nuts.
I would highly recommend devil survivor, it's a strategy rpg and it's a really nice blend between mainline smt and persona. It's one of my favorites, the sequel is great too. I'd also recommend IV since it uses the same gameplay style as nocturne but it's even better and does have slightly better characters, you at least spend more time with them and learn more. IV apocalypse is worth playing too if you liked IV, it's gameplay is some of the best of the whole franchise, including persona, it's story and characters are pretty weak IMO but I know some would disagree.
Just to the you know that Digital Devil Saga, Devil Summoner and Devil Survivor are also not called Shin Megami Tensei in Japan. So western Megami Tensei fans who mald about Persona being called Shin Megami Tensei is hypocrisy and jealous sibling syndrome. Marcia Marcia Marcia.
In DDS it is revealed that the demi-fiend lost and his empty husk is forced to fight any challengers that come, and he's still OP without any mind to guide his body.
The way nocturne works with mechanics like strength luck speed is really weird formula wise basically pick physical attacks unless you have no choice but to use magic
Ah Puzzle Boy, the main thing that makes me dread the idea of getting every Magatama. And then you have to redo it on NG+... Who thought it was a good idea to turn an entire Game Boy game into a mini-game? I personally started as a Persona fan and eventually ended up giving SMT a try. Now I'm at a point where I can't really get back to Persona anymore, as I find its gameplay far too simple to be enjoyable. I'm not into jrpgs in general, but SMT's press turn happens to work well for me. I also happen to enjoy its more elaborate and consistent world building along with its nuanced philosophical ideas when compared to Persona's usual shounen anime stuff. Not that I don't enjoy that from Persona as well, it just feels far more simplistic by comparison. Though P2 had some good writing.
@yq Why do you think it's not true? The theory that Hijiri is Aleph is way too strong to the point most people accept the theory, if he is Aleph reincarnated then Hijiri's sin was killing God.
@@TrashorTreasure I never played it. I don't have a Switch, and the DS version is hard to find. Though I hear you won't need to play the first one to understand the story.
