  • PRESIDENT MICHAEL D HIGGINS has addressed the European Parliament in Strasbourg today, as part of Ireland’s presidency of the European Union.
In his speech, President Higgins dealt with the themes of political legitimacy in Europe, and warned that current trends could see ordinary people treated more like consumers than citizens.
The President also warned of the “urgent need for new models of connection between economy, society and policy”.

Just had a vision from a parallel universe where Gallagher got elected and was standing there instead of Higgins, trying to form a sentence. Must try to forget that image.

He campaigned around Ireland on his own . Without the party or the hangers on s. he just walked through the towns and spoke to people . Higgins speaks from the heart and on this occasion has chosen a wonderful platform to a spouse his ideals and aspirations for democratic union that can serve the people better . For too long now the governments and the Eco have dictated to Irish governments and banking organisations the importance of austerity at the publics expense . In effect we are paying ha

There are too many constraints placed on an Irish President, in terms of what they can say in public. I'm sure Higgins would have been more critical if not for those restrictions. It is clear though that (finally) the Irish public choose the best candidate for President. It is also abundantly clear that Europe is going the wrong way for far too long. The expenses system for MEP's is shocking, the E.C. and ECB are unaccountable, etc. etc. etc.

Michael D has made a terrific speech and to suggest [as someone on this comment section has] that he doesnt care about Ireland or the Irish is the sort of comment which demonstrates why entering politics must be a dreary and demoralising experience. If you believe that YOU have the answer and that all 'the others' are charlatans please feel free to stand for election and submit yourself to the vote. It takes courage to be in politics and it takes even greater courage to remain in politics.

Check out "atmospheric geoengineering" or weather modification to understand why global, dangerous"carbon" is a non issue. Some glaciers are growing, explosion fishing and pollution(real) is destroying coral reefs exposing low lying islands to become flooded. I could go on and on as i have done my research. Google "what in the world are they spraying" and "why in the world are they spraying to begin with.
