  • Half-Ironman and Olympic distance triathlons are incredibly different not only in their distance, but also in the nutritional requirements triathletes have, the pacing strategy, the intensity triathletes race at, and their overall complexity. Triathlon Taren starts the day with a hard morning swim then discusses the differences between Olympic distance triathlons and half-ironman 70.3 triathlons.

Great stuff Tri Taren. I've been watching you and learning since June and appreciate your feedback. I relate to you since I just dropped a ton of weight (about 140lbs). I've done 1 sprint Tri and have the Malibu Olympic this weekend. Next stop... Half Ironman next year. Keep up the great tips!

Not sure about your recommendation of 12-16 hours to do well on the half mon ami. I guess it depends on the background, many factors and objectives...

Can you put (on your website) a sample of a typical week or two weeks on your training programs much like the TP one's, so potential purchasers (like me) can get a feel for the program before having to commit to paying?

Olympic nutrition seems good, perhaps high. I don't have calories until I'm 60-75 minutes in, then aim for 100 calories every 35-40 mins after that. Example:My latest Oly was 2:48 (70 deg F at sea level), had 24 ounces of water on the ride (could have used 4-6 more) and two gels (100 cals/each) at mile 9 and 20. Got water immediately out of T2, then on the run, 3rd gel at mile 1-2 (took a while to eat, nose clogged) and alternated b/w water and gotorade cups over 4 aid stations. I carried a 4th gel, but did not need it.

New camera! Colours feel a bit washed out and little bit blueish. you probably have to play a little bit with it.

It might be going back. It's crap at autofocus and for a few hundred dollars extra I can get a camera that does everything I want from this new camera, but it'll actually function better

Taren - just catching up on TT after being on a business trip the past couple weeks with limited connectivity. I'm bummed that I missed the offer to get the 70.3 plan at discount. Any future opportunities that I should watch out for?...

i know your videos are geared towards athletes that compete for awards, but i always wonder if you hold any animosity towards athletes like me that just do triathlons for enjoyment that don't race for awards. curious about your thoughts. (i watch almost every video you post and LOVE them).

Lets say I can finish half ironman in 6 hours
How much time will olympic distance and full ironman take?
