Ha! Now I must chuckle. I was sure Mr Vamos was in the Bourne movies! Paris flat attack. I digress. This gear made the big Harbeth's actually sound good to me for the first time. Some good French goods here!
I have a feeling that this is another unnecessarily mysterious brand because of the myth of TAD/Kinoshita from the 80's, kinda like FM Acoustics. I mean you can have megabuck stuff like Wilson, ARC, Manley, ML, Krell or even Kondo and such but still have it popular.
Only reference level. Not worried about price. They’re not unique. Just about every high end audio manufacturer has the same criteria. I think the challenge is to create high end audio that is affordable. It use to be possible.
Most ultra high-end brands have now have at least one integrated amp, but he is saying that JMF will not even make that one compromise and only makes separate amp and pre-amp models, so that may be somewhat unique in that respect.
Love to read even about this uber nosebleed stuff only the one percenters can afford. Never heard of the brand. So being in professional studios does this help lessen the divide between the audiophile and the pro audio camps? Thanks !
I wouldn’t let anyone carry my brand if they do not care to dust off their equipment before showcasing it. This is peak laziness. Greasy fingerprints on the preamp are just the tip of the iceberg.
In fairness, that’s not how shows work. The media pop in and say “hey, we have 15 minutes now to shoot a video”. And OEMs and distributors usually cooperate, because everyone is on a tight schedule. Now right before the media walk in, a guy who just downed a cheeseburger was in the room fiddling with the preamp. And the fingerprints happen to be hard to see in the low hotel lighting (but easier on exposure corrected video). So real people under real pressures just aren’t going to give up 30% of their conversations (and appear to be jerks) to do minute by minute cleaning. That’s just about everyone’s reality. Sorry.
If it makes you feel any better, JMS claims that their components use a sealed case design (no air path inside the unit) so there is no dust on the inside.
Had not heard of this brand before, very nice. I was checking out their website while the video was on. He's right, not the most expensive in the high-end world, but man, it looks like a brand you'd be happy with for life. Thanks for bringing this to us.

NOT ANY MORE - THE DOLLAR HAS NOW REACHED PARITY WITH A CUP OF RAT SH1T -- I'M HAPPY WITH MY VAN ALSTINE GEAR -- GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME
High-end and affordable are mutually exclusive by definition; high-end is luxury, very simple.

Nice setup there.

How does he know how the original artist intended things to sound?
Not, artists create music as a whole. Studio converts it to sound.
Excellent. Love to hear it
The JMS website doesn't list damping factor in the specs for the amps. I am curious as to what it is.
Damping factor;
9001 mono 3000 at 8Ω,
7001 mono 1200 at 8Ω,
6002 stereo 1000 at 8Ω
None of my browsers will open the substack listing. Firefox, Error code: SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP
