That's how I feel. When my hair is long, I can throw it in a bun in 10 seconds. I suppose you could do ponytails with shorter hair just as quickly but I always found that they pulled.

Just cut and thinned out my daughter’s very long hair yesterday. She wanted 8-10 inches removed.
Did exactly as you directed: wet hair, thoroughly combed (no knots or waves), fine sections starting at the nape of the neck, and worked methodically until the entire head was done.
Our problem is that we laugh too much and have fun, so we had to take frequent breaks to keep from having a mishap 😂
Another pro tip: KEEP YOUR THINNING SHEARS AND SCISSORS AWAY FROM EACH OTHER!!! Especially if they look similar and you are talking while doing it yourself 🤣
(No, I didn’t screw up and learn that the hard way. Just a helpful hint. lol)

I've been cutting my hair myself since I was 12 (after a salon messed up really really bad) I still do now but the one thing I tell my friends who want to cut their own hair is to cut it about 2 or 4 inches longer than you want, so you can room for it to be fixed by a professional

I'm always so on the fence with these haircutting commentary videos. I find your advice for bleaching at home to be spot on, but as far as what you recommend for haircuts...I'm really not sure if it's replicable for **most** non-hairdressers. I know it sounds easy (and surely feels easy for you!), but as someone who has attempted the "guide piece" method at home and ROYALLY screwed it up (not your fault, ofc😂) vs using the wolf cut technique 10+ times with results that ALWAYS get me compliments....it just puts this nugget of doubt in my head when you (mildly😅) shade other hairdressers who recommend this technique for non-pros. Those creators may not believe this will be ideal, but at least **achievable** and presentable to non-hairdeessers (i.e. most of the population😂). I think ofc this all in the end comes down to hair type/tool type/desired outcome/skill level/individual techniques, etc, but it feels like a nuanced discussion that I would love to see broken down more in a video if you were ever inclined to do so. Just some thoughts - love your vids😊❤

This reminds me of one of my 1st jobs when a young lady came in with her 2 cousins, all teens, to get a trim on her waist length hair. They kept telling her to cut just a little more (I could see them giggling with malice) and I kept trying to convince the girl to not do it.
I got to a point where I had to say I wasn't comfortable cutting anymore length and I told her to sleep on it & she could come back the next day with her parents if she wanted more off. At that point it was halfway down her back.(Of course, she was leaving town to go back home the next day). That should've been the end of it, BUT she started to get visibly upset and give me attitude and told me that they knew her more and they knew what they were talking about so just listen to them & do it. I gave her the final out & asked her again if she is 100% aware that she's making the decision, on her own, against my professional opinion, but as a customer she had every right to get the cut she wanted on herself. Long story short (hehe) she ends up with hair maybe 2"-3" below her shoulders and has the audacity to be surprised and upset. I'm sure she cried and blamed me for the worst haircut of her life lol. It was a great cut just not what she wanted. Lesson learned.

Anyone can do short hair, but achieving beautiful long hair is only possible for a few lucky people. Long hair is so much easier to maintain and look good, whereas short hair can be a nightmare, the shorter it is the worse it gets. Most hairdressers encourage people to cut their hair short because it means more business for them, but please think very carefully before you cut your hair.

  • @Hitsugix
    @Hitsugix 10 місяців тому +6

I will never get hairdressers' obsession with straight lines. Maybe you learned it like that, but not everyone likes it. From my teenage days on I never wanted my very long hair's tips cut off in a straight line. I always told the hairdressers to NOT do that; I wanted a nice V-shape. They still did it. Every single time. Even when I got a short hair cut in the beginning of 2020, I wanted it shorter on top and in the front and a bit longer in the back and I got the very opposite, having a bob cut. I'm not saying that the cut was badly done, it's just absolutely not what I wanted.
I started freestyle cutting my own hair around 2 weeks before last Christmas and I finally have the layered, shaggy cut that I always wanted. I'll never go back to a hairdresser, sorry. Not only am I saving a huge amount of money, I also don't have to walk around with a haircut that I don't like.
The first girl in the video did a good job in my opinion.

HB, HELP!! I have shoulder length, wavy to slightly curly hair. Growing up and in my teen years, it was short and it looked good. But i always wear my hair in ponytails, and it has that bump in it from that. How do i get used to liking long hair and what is a good cut/trim style that looks good with wavy hair? As low maintenance as possible. I'm trying to like my hair long down but i always put it in a ponytail and like you said, I'm used to that. I'm at a crossroads and don't know what to do. I'm considering cutting it all short again especially because i live in the Phoenix Arizona heat, but i really want to try and let it grow long and pretty and get used to having long hair. I made it last summer without cutting it off and I'm really unsure what to do, i want to keep growing in but a part of me wants to cut it short again. 🙏🏼❤

While that second girl was scared and nervous and whatever, the first cut was good because everything below needed to go. I agree that she should have waited a few days to get used to the length before cutting again. The shorter you cut, the more noticeable that back part is . Also, people, cut WET, brush/comb smooth, before you put in the pony holder if that's how you're insisting to do it. Also, while it's still a bad idea to pony cut, if you put the pony more to the back of your head, like behind your ear, and cut it without bringing it forward to in front of your ear, you'll have less to fix later.

I've cut my waist length hair so many time, I can't even remember how many time. But everytime if it's shorter than my jawline I would go to a hair salon to cut it. And I can confirm that cutting your hair yourself is never easy, specially the back but once you have a clear view of your back it's not impossible.

So i just cut my bob and granted it was already shorter but i cut it mid neck length and if you cut it angled witj your two fingers and a slightly downward angle you wont have that longer in the back look. I actually did that on both sides and then cut by sectiona in back which was dreadful hard. I had to trxturize and thin it and layer a bit bc you dont want a mushroom cut. Its very hard to do this correctly on yourself.

I basically did that last week (cut it to a little bit under my collarbones). Been really unhappy with my long hair for a long time. I was growing it out since 2019 but lost half of it in 2022 because of covid. It grew back long but ends still seemed like they remember ''covid time'' also 2022 was literally the worst year of my life due to some personal reasons. I decided to cut that hair off to let go of that year and forget about it once and for all. I wear my hair up in a bun all the time anyway so i won't notice the length difference that much (i was unhappy with it to the extend that i refused to wear it down). I will try again after 2-3 months when it grows back to the length i want.

I never understand why people do this, in some places in England you can get a dry trim for as little as £20. If you want to cut off your hair and nothing else, just go to a hairdresser.

Exactly. You don't have to get the full works with an award winning stylist. Also, colleges that do beauty/hairdressing courses and larger salons offer "model" appointments. A student or trainee will do the cut under supervision. It's only around £10 to £15 in my area, and I live in an expensive region.

@siangriffiths3691 so true, I've got curly hair so every 4 months I straighten it, go and get a dry trim. It use to cost me £12 pre covid but now it costs £20 which I'm fine with. What baffles me is people will spent 200quid on a pair of trainers or a grand on a phone but then want to be cheap on something they've got to walk around with on a daily basis on their head 🤔. Doesn't make sense!

I’m a fairly new subscriber and I enjoy your videos so much. They make me laugh and I learn something each video. I have naturally curly hair and I can say at the age of 61 I get compliments on it all the time. I’ve learned from you that I need to be gentle with it and make sure I keep it moisturized. Thank you for that advice. 😊

    Cutting hair - few seconds/minutes
    Growing up hair .... years
I had my hair fried by bleach, cut after taking off black and now when growing them back (had waist long beautiful black dyed hair which I was growing back almost 3 years) I am never going back to bleaching, cutting. I remember my mom lost her hair during chemotherapy (got back but 1/10 of what she had, the most important that she is alive) and she was always saying "hair are never just hair, you can't be sure that they will grow back". For me hair are like obsession.

Love the videos…but one quick English lesson …. hairdresser language CUT, there is no ‘cutted’ I, you, he, she, they, we CUT hair past tense…to be (is, are, am) CUTTING…CUT is also an adjective that CUT hair [as in hair that has been cut] 👍 and now back to the video….or as a profession people CUT hair

I've gone from long to short a couple of times and donated my hair each time. First time I didn't realize how long my hair was until I measured it. 18 inches of virgin hair! My hair dresser asked a few times if I was sure about cutting it. I did look good with a bob, but short hair is too frustrating for me.
The self hair cuts weren't bad. The second girl's hair looked much better once the ends were off. Both of these dears need to step away from the scissors and visit the salon. ❤
