that bridge was so much more steep than the video can show. Flat out scary driving over it especially in bad weather and high winds. I remember 1980 when the oil tanker crashed into it with intense fog and bad weather. Horrible tragedy!
I was a child riding over this bridge for the first time. Going up the bridge was frightening but when we got to the other side…the front end of the car was close to perpendicular. I was so terrified that I couldn’t even speak. I can’t imagine what that would have been like in fog or especially heavy rain, thunder and lightning.
Younger I could've driven over that with not a worry....but for the last 15 years or so I have developed a fear of heights that would not allow for a drive like that. I can drive over bridges but they must be multi-lane each way. It really pisses me off that this phobia has dropped out of thin air. Well, I've always been afraid of heights in general, but it didn't affect my driving the way it does now. Sheesh. And damn.
I'm in the same boat-anything over a six foot ladder and I get a nosebleed, fortunately the bridges where I live are multi-lane and relatively short. Being 67 I think it's my minds way of saying heights are for those 40 and younger.
I’m 60 years old, and I’ve recently developed bad anxiety driving on bridges. I take alienate routes or just won’t go somewhere because of it. Hate myself.
Not only was that bridge scary it was dangerous. The center span was expanded metal so when you would drive across it your car would drift and the tires would whistle driving over the holes in the roadway and that's when it was dry. I would never drive over it in the rain, just too dangerous. When the tanker took out the Southbound bridge they sent divers to survey the pilings on both bridges only to discover that the current and the tides washed away the foundation around the Northbound bridge pilings. So what you basically had was and unsupported center section with the support beams dangling in the water.
It was in the magazines at the rack sometime later. They had a big article on it and showed the car that almost went over. The whole front end of the bridge dipped off and drivers couldn't see it in the fog. I can't remember for sure, but I think it was a tan car. If anyone knows the make be great to know, ty
Too bad the film was stopped during going up & over & down the bridge…should have just kept filming even if there wasn’t much film left or other reasons???

That tanker in 1980 did not hit THAT bridge, it hit the newer one beside it that was completed in the late 60s.
@@clemsonbloke how pedantic of you…
@@KSundstrom2 I suppose you don't like being precise?

That bridge scares me
I've never been over this bridge but it appears in my nightmares regularly. I am not sure what to make of this info. Bless you all...
It was hit by a tanker in 1980 and a new one built
I hated going over that bridge as a kid
Going up that was always scary. Then going up that and seeing the destroyed remains of old bridge was more scary
That reminds me of the old Cooper River Bridge in Charleston, SC! I tell ya It took balls of steel to.cross that thing! Ahh the good old days...
I was just thinking of that! The old John Grace Bridge over the Cooper River! Yes, very similar! And equally creepy!
I remember crossing that bridge way back in 1984. What made it even more creepy is that it was about 3am!
@@drtee51and the perman
@@Insertgenericusernamehere809 Yes, with that shifting lane in the middle!
wasn't that removed when the Grace bridge started falling apart?
Thanks so much for posting. Brings back memories of my summer vacations to my aunt and uncle's in Cape Coral.
i don’t know why, but i want to drive on it. too bad it got destroyed fully in 1991

I got anxiety just watching the video I can only imagine driving over it in real life . I think id need a barf bag and a few prayers.
Yeah, I remember that sound driving over it. The new one is cool! They used the old north bridge for both directions until the new one was built
not only that, but the bridge wasn’t even protected from large impacts like the one that caused it to collapse
No no no!
Oh no sir!😢
not only no but HELL NO !! i’ll go around !!! thanks anyway
hiya!, prfessional video-work,have a good day-✋
Man...I'd kill for this traffic on the bridge nowadays
the old bridge was never made for interstate traffic, something the current one is.

A 4 door Nova. I light yellowish tan color. Lots of pics on the internet.

Maybe the footage got lost or corrupt.
Florida was so much better than.
Well yea, before the chepnization of infrastructure in the late 1960s everything was better.
Better than what? 🤔
