Saw this years ago and watched it again today and it is a great review. I have had a Porsche Panamera Turbo from 2014 for 3 years and it is a fantastic car. Drives like a super sports car, but enable me to have the family with me in the car. As a real Porsche should do, it drives amazing in curves and corners.
You can get Executive with either GTS or turbo. The CLS and 7-series are much smaller inside than Panamera, and quite a bit cheaper too. Dont think many people cross shop those.
I'd happily buy this car over an audi rs7 or a cls 63 amg or a bmw m6 grand coupe. Those cars will depreciate so quickly if you owned any of those cars for about 3 years then you will sell them for half the price whereas the porsche is more expensive but it holds its value for longer and you won't lose that much money when you come to sell it on.
True I absolutely love this car never driven one but hopefully one day I will own one used when they come down in value, used here in England they still run you 35K with 100+K miles on! And even more the less miles you go and that's for the basic car.
@@lightbox8019 im not sure on the percentage rate of depreciation over 8 years, but our panamera turbo from 2014 was 156k, bought it earlier this year with 40k miles for 67k. For my sake, I'm glad it depreciated that much. What a car for less than 70k. Yeah, it ain't new and some of the tech is a little old. But, if you frame it in your mind as it HAD been new with the latest tech at one point, it's a smoking deal.
There are many car reviewers out there but it's the comparison of the weight of the Panamera to "a GTR with a Lotus strapped to the roof" that makes me smile. Thanks Matt!
It's also a different country, a country that doesn't count "suing people" as a national pastime. Chris is an amazingly talented driver; I would love to have the skills he has. The man races at the Nurburgring. But he also lives in a different part of the world where the rules and the landscape are much different than where I live in Los Angeles.
A porsche engineer told me that the oil issue has everything to do with how the car is broken in. Most owners will properly break their cars in, the seals will set properly, and it will be fine. Some press cars get the shit kicked out of them the second they roll off the line, so they dont set right and will burn some oil. Makes sense, actually.
I agree that the shifter being backwards is a pain but I swear the push/pull feature of the paddle shifters is so convenient. I love being able to up or down shift with either hand while drinking a cup of coffee!
Don't worry mate over here in L.A prices are dropping and will soon within a year or two reach low 40's then maybe both me and you could afford it. This is of course for the 2010 models.
I go around corners as fast as cars go around corners without breaking traction. That's how I was taught to drive, at racing schools. Drifting is great for showing off, and Chris is a fabulously talented driver, but it's not worth the risk, especially in the US, where you could be sued into homelessness god forbid you hit someone while street drifting. People hand me keys to very expensive cars, expecting I treat them with respect, and it's because I do just that, that I still have a job.
people, the panamera and cayenne aint gonna go away. This is how porsche makes money, some rich women wanna have a big fucking car when they go to their local farmers market and buy their ultra-natural-organic foods..... but it gives porsche money to build more cars.... If porsch just built the 911 and cayman/boxter, theyd end up like aston martin, who has to buy more and more parts from other bigger manufacturers
"some rich women wanna have a big fucking car when they go to their local farmers market and buy their ultra-natural-organic foods" Lol, so true! When the Macan goes on sale those rich women will buy their spoiled teenage daughters that cuv as well.
There are quite a few cars out there, of which the Cayenne and Panamera are both members of the club, where you think the car is ugly right up until you drive it, and then it's so good you no longer care. But saying "everyone" thought it was ugly would imply that its so ugly it wasn't selling, which isn't the case.
I win the lottery, I'm buying a Panamera. I think they would be great for long distance road trips. Comfortable, quiet, fast as you dare and probably easy to drive and cruise in. For those of you that don't like it's looks, it's a 4 door sedan that holds four people and made for long drives or cruising. You can put your family and your dog in it and take a long drive with your luggage. You can also drive it to and from the grocery store and just throw your groceries, imported beer and fine quality wines in the back and go home with a big smile on your face. It's not a sports car, but a sporty and practical 4 person sedan that can go like crazy if you want to. You can probably cruise at 100 + MPH all day long in this car. It's not supposed to be a 911 or a 918. It's still a Porsche and one of the best engineered and highest quality cars on the market.
+garyhope2 the Panamera is a poor family hauler since it lacks a bench seat in the back. Cayenne makes sense because Porsche was tired of Porsche owners buying a 911 and then having to buy a Chevy or Ford to tow their 911 to the track or daily drive they Che-ord and 911 saw once a month duty. Cayenne makes sense, 5 passenger, AWD, giant trunk (for a Porsche), 7,700 lbs towing, it fills all niches. Now you can daily drive your Porsche and have another Porsche for weekends. Very smart Porsche. Panamera doesn't make sense. There is no niche. So what is this for? A family hauler that doesn't hauls a full family? And the Macan makes even less sense. Porsche should have stopped at the Cayenne.
Ignore the price tag on the Volt. No one buys them, everyone leases. And with the gov't incentives and cash back, I leased my volt for $320/month/36/12k and no money down. The MSRP makes it look too expensive, but the lease is so good the overall cost to daily drive it is stupidly cheap. I never stress about running out of juice because the engine is there, and in 1,800 miles I've literally filled it up with gas once. Averaging 102 MPG.
I was about to purchase one 2014 Turbo low mile quite equipped . Watched your video and thought "wow this looks like magnificent machine". Now I own it and now I think "wow this is such a magnificent beast of a machine" . This car exceeded my expectations in every way. Every time I floor it I laugh because its unreal. To be quite honest I believe that the 1st gen Facelift turbo Panamera is the most awesome of them all and I don`t believe other Panamera will match it ever.
Love this car, just did a test drive an decided to buy it from a local dealer. 30k+ euros for a 9 years old panamera turbo s. Can't wait to drive it daily :D
Some have compared the Panamera to the 928. They both have a V8, both are terrifyingly fast for their respective eras, both have a somewhat ugly rear end, and both are complete luxury cars. I think it does work as a Porsche, and I hope that one day they'll make a smaller Panamera Turbo coupé and call it the "928 Panamera" kind of like the "718 Cayman/Boxster". Porsche makes fantastic sports cars, and fantastic SUVs, and fantastic Saloons, they need to get back into the GT car business; make something to compete against the Aston Martin DB9, the Ferrari FF, the Maserati Gran Tourismo. They'd blow them all out of the water with a 2-door Panamera with the engine from the Normal Panamera Turbo.
Holy shit I never realized how much room their was in the back of these things. I used to hate on them when they first came out because of the whole "four door Porsche" thing but they've grown on me...the combination of luxury and practicality of seating 4 comfortably and the sheer performance is astonishing...
You Americans always thinks European cars are expensive. A fully optioned Turbo in Sweden costs 300,000$+, that's without PCCB,the Burmeister sound system and the natural leather package.
PorscheSweden See, that comment just showed me that ur probably poor and recive wellfair... Or you are a 12 year old kid.. Can't decide between these two options :) And to be honest neighter in Sweden nor in any other country is 300k $ for a car cheap... You cannot say that this affects everyone but almost 90% of the worlds population will never be abel to own such a car... Just saying. And yes Americans do belive that their gas is expensive, but that is something completely different than the car price.. Car prices normaly saty about the same. But the gas prices in the US have increased a lot. So for example, 15 years ago, you got 1 gallon for like 50 cents. now 15 years later it kosts like 3.50$. That might not seem alot for Europeans, i know that since im from germany. But that is like a 3 dollar increase... We in germany also get "more" expensive gas now but hours only increased by like 90 cents ish. You know it is not always the pure amount of money that counts... It always depens on how much you could get for that money a couple of years ago. I'm not bitching or so but your reasoning is pretty dumb. Ik that your/our gas prices are way more expensive than the ones in the US but you need to understand that minimum wage and the average income in the US is way lower than ours. Just keep that in mind when talking about stuff like this :)
The oil consumption issue has everything to do with the break in process, and is unique to press cars, which have the shit kicked out of them right out the factory door.
jarni huijben its a hatch back just like other cars whats the problem, this car is the hottest hatchback ever made even thought I think the panamera granturismo is way more beautiful. Beauty is on the eyes of the beholder
jarni huijben Aston martin rapide s its like a hot stupid blondie with big tits you only want her to have sex and show off, the panamera its like a beautiful brunnet to live great experiences and its better in bed hahaha Im horny
Matt has a good point. I would love to have this car. I've sat in mid range luxury mercedes' and they're so comfortable it's ridiculous. You feel like a king in them. We're talking cars that are a around 80K USD but still it's quite an experience. And to drive like that every day? In a car that will beat nearly anything else on the road to the next red light is just awesome. And it's ugly, ok, but it looks right somehow... it looks poised and quick and in it's own way is beautful.
Andres .C Couldn't agree more. And I'm guessing the Porche will be a hell of a lot more reliable. Merc has totally killed it for me in the reliability dept. A damned shame...
it was determined that the last one wasn't properly broken in so the seals weren't as good as they could have been. This one was fine (though I only drove it about 200 miles, not the 1500 I went last time)
Great review! Thanks. That exhaust is so beast. When these first came out, I was not a fan aesthetically. They've been growing on me recently though. With that marriage of performance and capability, it's hard to resist.
yeah, we're still trying to find the right balance for voiceover. We can make it sound good on my computer, and then we play it on other computers and it sounds wierd. We're working on it, promise.
Well considering the fact that its more than 300% tax on any ordinary vehicle being imported into Sri Lanka, I do not even want to think how much this Panamera Turbo must be costing over here. Although we have quite a few of the Panamera Hybrids among other luxury hybrids that are charged less than half that tax.
We're still working on the ideal setup for recording voiceover, the problem is consistency. It will sound great on one computer but not others, or it will sound good in headphones but not on laptop speakers.
This car is an engineering triumph. It probably has the most thoroughly sorted chassis of any sedan available today. It's just a shame that it looks like a deformed prehistoric insect. It's odd hunchback profile is ungainly from 75% of the car's angles. Hopefully Porsche will get it right next time.
Joshua Kebschull To a certain extent, that's true. Styling is subjective and there may be design elements that lead people with different aesthetic tastes to draw opposing conclusions. However, in this case, you either know little about automotive styling, or are a Porsche apologist. Like the Pontiac Aztek, this car is so badly proportioned that its design crosses the line from controversial to just plain tacky. Recall that the Panamera's original silhouette had a tapered roofline, however it was changed late in the development process due to a directive from the VW president (who stands 6'4"). The car was never supposed to look the way it does - a mess of unresolved elements, inelegant roof-line, and a big hunched-back hatch unceremoniously tacked to the rear. This car is a design flop. If it weren't for people who imagine ANYTHING from Porsche is somehow, by magic, perfect and just want to be seen driving the brand, no one would have bought this terd on wheels.
Thomas Ferrugia I honestly think it looks awesome...it looks sportier than a normal sedan, looks very porschy and recalls the 911 back. I understand why many people hate it but i reaaaally like it
Thomas, I am no expert on automotive styling, but my eye for appreciation on the subject matter doesn't lack either. Also I am no "Porsche apologist" as you want to personally coin people. I am not sure how brought in talk of proportion with the Aztek is beyond me. For some reason what you are saying mirrors that of what many other journalist elitism has to say....is it your opinion or are you taking what others say, dunno. What I do know, I see many Panameras, and I like the way it looks, the interior and the tech. Its an engineering piece of work, and if you don't like it, you're entitled to it.
I think the closest competitor to the Panamera Turbo is the S63, and I do like it better than that. I like the S8 better than the Panamera though, especially when you take price into consideration.
I Love my 12 panamera turbo. Re:steering wheel position. You have the steering wheel so far up. I drive with mine all the way down It feels so much better.
great review matt, it was reminiscent of the older, longer smoking tire reviews. U seem like a busy guy so its nice to have a longer review this time around.
the old one was a turbo S, actually, but that notwithstanding, the new one has some new body work, headlights, tail lights, the overhead view camera, and a few other options.
I have never been able to make a VW/Audi box's launch control work twice in a row. I'll launch the car once, and then do it again for the outside shot and it won't work. Same procedure, everything. PDK launches perfectly every single time.
Yes Matt. Finally a reviewer that points out the major flaw with the pdk. The reverse shiftlever gate. It is pull to upshift!! Thank God BMW gets that right
Matt Farah at it again with an awesome review! Thanks Matt! Brutally honest and to the point. No wonder why Porsche hunted you down to test the Panamera! BTW, Been sticking up for ya in the Forum world over the Vette reviews.... not sure why people are hating, and I know you could care less just thought I'd share. Keep up the great work guys!
You need to listen closer, because that's not what I said at all. It's tested to 3,000 launches. That doesn't mean that when you hit 3,0001 it will explode, just that it's been tested to that number. And "only" 3,000 launches isn't really accurate, since 3,000 is a massive number, enough to launch the car every single day of the year for 9 years.
Great review man! Your the type of person I like listening too because you say what's on your mind. Youre reviewing it like a ''normal'' person that would do everything to get the max out of a car, but don't spend like all my money on. For example the brakes. You don't need the carbon brakes, just like you said. And yeah, the review was just top notch. Keep it up man!
Yeah, we're still trying to find the right balance for recording voiceovers in hotel rooms with this new gear. Believe me, I notice it too, and it drives me nuts when editing. We're working on it, I promise.
Since over two years i´m driving the Panamera Turbo s and i still love. especially the ceramic Brakes. Driving on the german Autobahn in traffic it´s a nice safety item. 3000 launches? Lamborghini and Ferrari hardly do one Launch without serious damages to clutch or gearbox ;)
You know that there are a lot of options on it when you try and skip about 30 seconds or so of the list.. and it still keeps on going lol. Great review!
No, the C5 is in the "never sell" department. The Raptor was cool, and ideal for its task at the time, but our methods changed and a more appropriate vehicle was needed. Since the C5's job is limited to running canyons every other weekend, it will never require a replacement.
That was one of the best reviews I've seen from you guys. I really enjoyed it. And how bout that exhaust mmmm. Keep it up guys, the smoking tire/drive network is here to stay.
One of those cars that just look better in person after seeing on on the highway. I hope I'm not the only one that want Porsche to build a 2 door GT version of this.
of course, that would be the ideal situation. But you should look into the costs of such things. They are massively cost prohibitive. I made this film for zero dollars. That's how much I had, that's how much I used. All it took was Porsche inviting me to an event, and my own time. Closing roads, renting race tracks, that kind of thing are so expensive that we might as well literally burn money and film that.
It helps when Porsche hires JF, tom, and thaddeus to shoot the B-roll. Most videos I make are limited by the amount of B-roll I can get. At a press launch, that's usually "not very much." but when I have my own guys being paid by Porsche to shoot B-Roll, I know I can get the shots I need and make a proper film.
I really enjoy your channel and your work. TheSmokingTire This or the 911 C4S for daily driving? I figure you can get them for about the same price used. New is not an option for me until later on in my 30's and 40's. RIght now I have a COBB tuned '13 WRX STI sedan (400+bhp) with redone/upholstered interior (because it was crap quality). It is set up more for handling and better feel than raw power. I am keeping that forever as of now, but gives you an idea of what I like. Two awesome daily drivers is better to me than a crap winter beater and a supercar. lol Cheers! Looking forward to more episodes.
I thought the ad at the beggining was a huge joke, but apparently it wasnt x) Come on TST !

it was determined that the last one wasn't properly broken in so the seals weren't as good as they could have been. This one was fine (though I only drove it about 200 miles, not the 1500 I went last time)
dat rolex tho
its Omega I think
lol nope its a rolex submariner
Sukun Paul how much?
No idea, but here's the website ;), definitely cheaper on the chinese streets www.rolex.com/watches/submariner/m116610lv-0002.html
LOL, thx anyways
Great review! Thanks. That exhaust is so beast. When these first came out, I was not a fan aesthetically. They've been growing on me recently though. With that marriage of performance and capability, it's hard to resist.
I was COMPLETELY expecting a fridge full of beer haha
yeah, we're still trying to find the right balance for voiceover. We can make it sound good on my computer, and then we play it on other computers and it sounds wierd. We're working on it, promise.
It would be twice the price in Australia!! Cheap in US!! Half your luck,
Cheers Greg
That's because AU wants consumers to buy their lame local built crap
***** doubt it, I'm not being mean just realistic
***** nor any German car ever
That would be triple the price in China and Singapore, cheer capitalism!
Unfortunately, styling is subjective and in the eye of the beholder. I believe it is an amazing looking car.
Marco Brotto Give it some time. It grows on you, like a fungus.
Nice! I came here to just see the interior! And I watched the whole thing! great review!
I don't give a shit about what's in your fridge...
Schoolboy Q I do
He's getting paid... skip forward through it dumbfuck (and make your pfp and name match)
Talk your shit Q
I think the closest competitor to the Panamera Turbo is the S63, and I do like it better than that. I like the S8 better than the Panamera though, especially when you take price into consideration.
Did stevie wonder design the exterior of this car?
I Love my 12 panamera turbo. Re:steering wheel position. You have the steering wheel so far up. I drive with mine all the way down It feels so much better.
I thought I was watching /Drive....
Matt was hilarious, the car was perfection, and the roads and woods looked nirvana. Matt, you have the best job in the world!
Lol the TURBO is 140, the V6 is 80k....but slapping a turbo on and 60k is a better value Matt?
okiedoke
That's what I'm thinking. I think the base v6 is the best deal
+Anthony DeLuca thought i was the only one thinking that paying 1.8x the price of the V6 is bonkers for the turbo
great review matt, it was reminiscent of the older, longer smoking tire reviews. U seem like a busy guy so its nice to have a longer review this time around.
For once the Panamera looks good!
the old one was a turbo S, actually, but that notwithstanding, the new one has some new body work, headlights, tail lights, the overhead view camera, and a few other options.
$194,684.00 really? thats all? looks like i need to hit the streets.
You have just convinced me to buy the 2014 Panamera Turbo... Porsche owes you money most definitely.
If i would buy a hybrid, I would be ashamed, if someone notice that!
why so?
What about if you bought a BMW ActiveHybrid 3? 3 Litre straight-6, total of 335hp, and will do about 40 mpg ?
That's because you're not a man a boy who cares what people think. Really those people could careless about you.
thomascampr That's not what I meant. I don't care, what most peoples say
I have never been able to make a VW/Audi box's launch control work twice in a row. I'll launch the car once, and then do it again for the outside shot and it won't work. Same procedure, everything. PDK launches perfectly every single time.
I understand you were paid to promote it, but who the fuck cares about what youtubers put in their fridge
Wow that color red in the interior is amazing especially with the carbon fiber what a excellent car
I think they are very sexy. I'll take one. Haha.
Yes Matt. Finally a reviewer that points out the major flaw with the pdk. The reverse shiftlever gate. It is pull to upshift!! Thank God BMW gets that right
too bad the car is so ugly!
It's got a nice ass ! One of the best looking cars in my opinion
Hah. Look at yourself. You are more ugly isn't ?
In real life it actually looks pretty decent.
well think of it this way you will be going so fast they will never get to look at it!
Nice thought ^^
Matt Farah at it again with an awesome review! Thanks Matt! Brutally honest and to the point. No wonder why Porsche hunted you down to test the Panamera! BTW, Been sticking up for ya in the Forum world over the Vette reviews.... not sure why people are hating, and I know you could care less just thought I'd share. Keep up the great work guys!
now there's an ugly ass Porsche
It's beautiful, a piece of art
***** Its a beautiful car but its not the best looking if you look at all the porsche designs
i know just implying
matt farah, reading the dumb comments people post and then your witty comebacks is always a pleasure. you also do great car reviews.
Watching this after the new Panamera is already on the roads, this was an amzing review of the old one
the new one has stop start as well, but it's very easy to disable.
Good vid Matt, well done, of the kind & quality we like to watch, seriously.
Watching from France, we love it here. Keep on good stuff!
By far the best panamera Turbo review
That's actually true, since I drive to the grocery store every day and buy fresh ingredients for whatever we're cooking that night.
Hey Farah, thank you for this clip. I would say that this is your best clip yet and because of it, I am a subscriber. Best of everything in 2014.
Keep it up man!
man theres no one on the internet is as cool as matt in reviewing cars he is just fuckin awesome and badass
One of my favorite Porsches, german cars, and cars of ever made.
I love everything about it!
the "Turbo S" models usually come out a year later than the Turbos (except with the new 991, i guess they are doing those at the same time)
Nice job, Matt. This is one helluva performance sedan.
Matt your comment about the ceramic brakes is freaking classic Matt!! I love watching your videos man please keep them coming.
Yeah, we're still trying to find the right balance for recording voiceovers in hotel rooms with this new gear. Believe me, I notice it too, and it drives me nuts when editing. We're working on it, I promise.
The turbo S with lap packs and custom brakepack. That car is just insane.
CTS-V and M5 are midsize sedans. Panamera is full size sedan. Different classes of cars. Panamera compares to 7-series, S-Class, Jag XJ, etc.
I think it looks fantastic in person. Much more special than its competitors in design.
Keep it up guys, the smoking tire/drive network is here to stay.
the roads were beautiful. I'm a big fan of Oregon.
Excellent ride, good vid, good reporter. Matt, I like your non-booshie spin on automotive journalism. Keep being you bro!
we used a Panasonic HPX170 and a couple 5D's
The red leather interior is simply breathtaking ...
Glad is finally getting a mid cycle refresh in 2015, they made the back sooo much better
One of those cars that just look better in person after seeing on on the highway. I hope I'm not the only one that want Porsche to build a 2 door GT version of this.
yes.
of course, that would be the ideal situation.
I know there are a lot of naysayers about the car, but damn. I still like this car. I was also attracted to the old 928GT. Oh well...
I'm taking a Turbo S to the Mojave Mile next spring.
Two awesome daily drivers is better to me than a crap winter beater and a supercar. lol
Cheers! Looking forward to more episodes.
my favourite car reviewer on earth.
i love the hatchback, gives it character
best review channel out there.
