    H/H match update:
    ...
    ~~~Today's action:
    For the second time in a row, our champ didn't need his second-round question to win the game.
    *Today's audience match question: "The Boston________"*
    (My thoughts: Marathon, Strangler, Red Sox, Tea Party, Massacre) - So many choices!
    The celebs: Richard (Tea Party), Charles (Strangler), Bonnie (Celtics)
    The choice: Strangler
    The answers: Red Sox, Strangler, Tea Party
    This is now our champ's third H/H. He missed the first with Marcia and matched the second with Bonnie...
    Wheel time... and it's ... Bonnie again!!! And a double again!!!! (Bonnie just played and matched a $10,000 question in each of the prior two episodes!)
    Now the wheel has chosen the fourth seat star 8 times in the past 12 spins!
    Star Wheel Tally: Richard: 6 (2 doubles, 3 matches) - Brett: 3 (1 double, 2 matches) - Susan Richardson: 3 (1 double, 1 match) - Charles: 3 (1 double, 2 matches) - Debralee Scott: 2 (2 doubles, 2 matches) - Bonnie Franklin: 3 (3 doubles, 2 matches*) - Fannie: 2 (0 doubles, 1 match) - McLean Stevenson: 1 (0 doubles, 1 match) - Betty: 1 (1 double, 1 match) - Marcia Wallace: 1 (0 doubles, 0 matches) - *so far, pending today's results...
    Stats: This is Bonnie's third H/H question, she matched the first one two days ago, and the second one yesterday. If she matches today, she'll become only the 12th celeb ever to score 3 H/H matches! (And she'll move to the big leader board.)
    For the sake of comparison: Charles has matched 36 of his 73 attempts (49.3%), Brett has matched 34 of her 76 attempts (44.7%), and Richard has matched 373 of his 878 attempts (42.5%). Bonnie Franklin has matched two of her two attempts. Bill Daily has matched two of his three attempts. Marcia Wallace has had two unsuccessful attempts now.
    *Today's H/H question: "_______Farmer"*
    (Good question. It sounds easy when you first hear it, but it's really hard. I don't think there's a true definitive answer. Pig farmer. Dairy farmer. Peanut farmer, gentleman farmer is an old expression, potato farmer, local farmer, tobacco farmer... Nothing seems to rise up above the others. Given it's 1978 and Jimmy Carter is president, I'll have to say "Peanut Farmer.")
    Our champion seems to be thinking hard. When the camera cuts to Bonnie, she's writing. It seems a fairly long answer. Richard is peering over to see what she wrote. Bonnie doesn't long to him for feedback though. With a determined expression, she slips her card into the slot. Ding.
    He doesn't seem to have made up his mind when Gene asks. He pauses a bit before saying "Wheat" farmer. Meh. It's a decent answer, but I don't see a match today. The audience is pretty silent. I seem to hear a faint sigh or boo, but I'm not certain.
    No, not this time. Bonnie did have one of my answers though (not surprising since I listed half a dozen!): "Gentleman".
    No H/H match today.
    ~~~Here's our standing leader board (unchanged since 1265) showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy:
    (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.)
    (For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.)
    Orson Bean - 100% (4 matches in 4 attempts).
    TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts).
    TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts).
    Gary Burghoff - 71.4% (5 matches in 7 attempts).
    Betty - 52.4% (22 matches in 42 attempts).
    Charles - 49.3% (36 matches in 73 attempts).
    Fannie - 48.6% (17 matches in 35 attempts).
    Brett - 44.7% (34 matches in 76 attempts).
    (*)Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 matches in 18 attempts).
    Richard - 42.5% (373 matches in 878 attempts).
    Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 matches in 15 attempts).
    *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1268, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. *Also, note that episode 849 was never produced. (These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. Note: There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036.)

    Bonnie Franklin: "I'm really from New York."
    Wikipedia: "Franklin was born in Santa Monica, California. Her family moved to Beverly Hills when she was 13 years old, and she graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1961."

      Yes, however, upon close examination of her bio, she spent a lot of time in the northeast. Perhaps when this show was taped she was spending a lot of time in New York.

    Is this the 3rd time the wheel landed on Bonnie this week for the super match?

    • @kevansf
      @kevansf 9 місяців тому

      The wheel seems to be in love with that fourth seat lately. Two weeks ago it stopped on Debralee twice in a row (1259 & 1260), and then Susan Richardson three times last week (1261, 1262, 1264) and now Bonnie for the third time this week (1266, 1267, 1268). That's 8 out of 12 times it's picked the fourth-seat celebrity!

      I do too. It got so repetitive hearing "Richard, Richard, Richard" they should have had The Star Wheel sooner. My Queen Brett has 33 Head-to-Head's so far but should be WAY more if they look past the kissing bandit.

    whats with the weird edits these past couple episodes??

    • @kevansf
      @kevansf 9 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, I've noticed for the past couple weeks or so several times where it seems they cut out some of the panelists' stalling and questions and rereading of the question. I think it was to make the show run a little faster and maybe get to a few more Super-Match rounds, and basically to make the broadcast show fit the time better without speeding up or vamping at the end.
      I'd actually wondered why they didn't do that long ago. Too often they either have to "speed up" during the final question when time was short, or else sometimes they would have that awkward finish when there's too little time for a question, but it's too early to say goodbye, so Gene vamps with the contestants and/or stars for 20 or 30 seconds.
      Honestly, five or ten seconds of watching them think or look around for answers or sit there waiting for the last star to write wasn't important to the outcome of the game, and usually wasn't terribly entertaining. (Sometimes it was!)
      Even cutting 5 or 10 seconds of this a couple of times per show might allow for an extra question to fit in and make the timing feel more even.
