At the beginning of this video I was wondering if Unforgiven II would be on your list. Thank goodness you included it and made it to the top of the list.
Enjoyed the video very much. As a b-bender player, there could always be more bender videos, so thanks. Just to clear things up, Clarence White was the guitarist & Gene Parsons was the drummer for the Byrds. Parsons is also a machinists, it was Clarence White who was playing & Parsons doing the bending. Marty Stuart is my favorite! Bend On!!!
I’ve been down to Mendocino to Gene Parsons please he’s very great guy he’s the one that knows in history he’s also pretty happy that Marty ended up with Clarence’s Guitar
Unforgiven 2 is my favourite Metallica song of all time and it was the song that got me into rock and metal music thereafter :). That riff sounded so clean the way you played it dude. Awesome video too!
I have always wished that the Byrds with Clarence White would have done a note-for-note version of 'Eight Miles High' with Clarence White doing sitar stuff on his B-Bender. Very possible as it only takes a move from Gmajor to Emin, with the same phrases. Roger and Clarence trading off licks, and yet staying true to the 'lighting in a bottle' of the studio version.
I got so inspired by your video that I came up with a design for a Strat-style b-string bender that replaces the bridge plate and the tremolo block with a complete assembly. I''m just finishing up my Canadian patent application, so when it is done, I'll post a how-to on my UA-cam channel.
Great job on bringing this together. Every arrangement was spot on. I'm 100% with you on Metallica's "Unforgiven 2" I was wondering if anyone out there would highlight it. It deserves that #1 spot. Too powerful a song! Well done sir....🤟🙌🎸
Very happy to see Ten Years Gone! I was ready to come down here and mention it if you didn't talk about it after we saw the previous live entry. One of my favorite changes they ever made from album to live.
Parsons had a degree in engineering and designed the Parsons White with White's input. He also designed the later Parsons Green so Fender could have a unit that would drop in pre-assembled.
That B Bender Parsons made for White is now in Marty Stuarts hands. Its his main instrument. The one with the tortoise shell pickguard. The stickers are all from Clarence White. I dont think Stuart altered it in any way. I could be wrong, but i think it also has a G bender on it.
Marty moved one of the banjo tuning pegs to a different string. I spoke to him after a show in Modesto, several years ago and asked him what the plunger below the bridge did. He said it drops the high E string . I don’t know if he put it in , or Clarence White did. He got it from Clarence’s widow. Marty is so smooth with that B bender, it’s like a part of him. When so many others use the B bender they just sound like they got a new toy. But Marty is the master!🎸
He has an incredible overall complete knowledge of everything music and hasn't ever really gone off the rails like so many others. Country guitar players are so underrated. Brad Paisley can play the shit out of Van Halen licks note for note. Seen it.
Jimmy Page used the B-Bender heavily on THE FIRM: MEAN BUSINESS album in 1986.... If you like B-bender gtr, I suggest listening to that album. Some great solos on it.
Original B Benders could only be done by major surgery on a Tele, first done by the Byrds, I believe, also big with Brad Paisley. I found an easier way, and also able to ADD the G string. I bought a Certano G&B Bender, and had it installed on a Squier Tele I bought specifically for the Certano install, as I didn't know how much used I'd get out of it. And Wah-LAH, a great purchase from a customer service based David Certano, owner of the CO. Had a local Luthier install it. At this point, I am taking it to my main Luthier this WED because the tuner machines were defective, imagine that on a $600 Fender!, to have those replaced, and also have the two levers lowered a bit, as I think they are too high by the original installer. Check it out. Thank YOU!
Check out these 2. Big Country single " Ships" the late great Stuart Adamson rocking the B bender and tbe fantastic Joe Bonamassa single Time clocks !!
There's a guy named, Dana Valley, who makes very simple palm-operated B-Benders for cigar box guitars that fit on a 3 or 4 string hardtail bridge. I got one for mine. It works.
I totally mistaken many guitar solos for pedal steel using the b bend “peaceful easy feeling” is a song that used this guitar. Awesome I totally thought it was a slide guitar
Ten Years Gone is one my two Zep faves, no, make that four… wait - seven? But seriously, I thought you’d include, All My Love as well and only My Friend in Misery because, well, in Unforgiven II I thought it was overused just enough to feel forced. But hey, all are great choices!!

Dude not only includes The Unforgiven II but add also another song by Metallica that very few people knew it sports a B-Bender riff. Hats off, my man. P.s. at this point you could have added Mama Said as well 😁
Question: Can a B-Bender guitar be set up to lower instead of raise a note on the B string by spooling the bridge end of the string in the counter direction...? I'm thinking of setting up a Telecaster for slide playing in open 'G' tuning [ D - G - D - G - B - D ] and if I can have it so that by tugging on the strap lever the B string note goes flat (not sharp) by one semi-tone I will have my minor chord with my slider. Please answer.
I'm gonna be honest. Once I learned that a B-Bender was used on "Unforgiven 2," I went to UA-cam to see it actually demonstrated. Of course, to my frustration there's countless videos proudly displaying "NO B-BENDER" in the title like I'm supposed to be impressed your rendition sounds mediocre or in some instances - flat out bad. Why bother if it's just you playing along to the recording if you can't match the lick? So I was very happy to witness it finally demonstrated properly because it's a very distinct and cool sound.
My search query is b-bender songs and I found your channel. Though I love your content, I don't hit the subscribe button. I'm a metal head and love your current subsciber count.
You got that backwards. Clarence white was playing and bending above the nut. Hes a great bluegrass guitarist. Parsons played drums, but was somewhat of a mechanic/engineer. Parsons built the B Bender. White guided Parsons in what he wanted as a guitar player.
You missed one of the greatest B bender songs ever: "Hey Landlord" on Joe Cocker's second album, released in November 1969. Clarence White's B bender licks and interplay with Henry McCullough's guitar and Sneaky Pete Kleinow's pedal steel on that cut are astounding. You can hear it here: ua-cam.com/video/R29daW33xTA/v-deo.html
Sorry for the silly question but, which kind of straplocks are you using, to fit this particular guitar? Do you feel straplock make the pull easier to do? Thanks!
The Nashville B-Bender he is playing came with Schaller Straplocks as standard. I have the same guitar from 1999 with a lighter sunburst finish. Love using the b-bender at gigs and looking for the confused guitarist who can hear a bend but can’t see one!!
You have the positions wrong when you are describing the idea of the bender coming up in the studio. Clarence was the one playing and Gene was the one who pulled the string for him.
The most unconventional use of the B-Bender I've ever heard was Jimmy Page's cut solo from All of my Love. It's one of the most beautiful solos I've ever heard and it doesn't sound country at all.
