Really enjoyed this video. My dad and a couple of buddies graduated from Navy boot camp in Chicago in the early 50's and drove to California on Route 66. I'll be there in a couple of weeks and the day I do Arizona Sidewinder I plan to be in Cool Springs at first light. Hopefully traffic will be light.
I know this stretch of road very well. I lived in Oatman for 10 years, in the 90s. Got my kicks, for sure! We used to go up to the pass, where the memorial now is in the evenings, after the tourists left for the day, and have a couple of beers and watch the sunset and decompress from the stress of the day.
I lived in Seligman, too! Worked at Lilo's, and was a tour guide at the Grand Canyon Caverns before I moved to Oregon. What store is yours in Seligman? @@route66roadrelics66
My wife and I drove that road several times in 2019. I asked the fellow at Cool Springs if he had ever driven the road to the top of Pikes Peak. That's what the road reminds me of.
An old neighbor of mine from garden grove used to work that place in cool springs, took a trip back in 2017 to have a visit since I lived in bullhead city at the time. If your still alive Jerry...howdy from John now in KC for some dumb reason ???
Up until a few years ago they sold carrots to feed the burros. Good hamburger joint there where you used to sign your name on a dollar bill and they stapled it on the walls and ceiling
they figured out the carrots had to much sugar in them plus it was not healthy for the burros to get so much sugar all of the time. Plus the extra sugar made them more likely to misbehave and cause issues thanks for watching
Nice video and narration. Cool Springs seems to have some oddball hours. I've had to give up some of my lane on a bike. Some @#$%^ pulling trailers were taking both lanes and also blocking traffic behind them and those vehicles wanting to illegally pass them. After that, even on my sport bikes, I take it easy.
I don’t know who told you apples can kill donkeys but it’s load of crap. The reason they don’t want you to give fruit to them is they will become aggressive wanting the fruit from people. Like bears in the forests get aggressive when people feed them.
Equine Cushings-like Syndrome it is a real problem yes maybe one apple a month would be no big deal but that is not the case they are fed fruit all the time by people who do not understand. this is basically like diabetes for the donkey and it can kill them the long term effects. The resulting clinical signs resulting are wide-spread and include excessive hair growth, excessive sweating, redistribution of fat, excessive thirst and hunger, immunosuppression and risks to parasitism and infectious diseases and very importantly a significant propensity to develop laminitis. The laminitis symptoms are thought to result from the influence of excessive cortisol secretion on blocking the effects of insulin on target cells, which in turn can directly result in constriction of small arterioles supplying oxygenated blood to the foot. Also, this can result in a type-2 diabetes situation similar to humans resulting in high levels of circulating glucose, which causes similar vascular effects as described above. The result is that the cells of the laminae of the hoof get inadequate oxygen supply and die. This results in laminitis, which can result in equine colic and foundering which will kill them fast So please do not feed them fruit. We own horses and if you talk to anyone knowledgeable about the Wild burros they will tell you the same thing so please do not be stupid and feed them fruit

LOL! If you're referring to the Oatman Hotel, I managed that restaurant for a few years. Glad the food is still good there.
