Nice video as always. For context, the INFINIMAT Aputure sent to Luke was an older prototype, which was all we had available at the time. That’s why it had firmware issues.
recently had a great experience on a virtual stage with the infinimat 20 -- such an impressive, flexible unit. huge, soft, bright, colorful. loved the results we saw and it was impressive to be run by a lighting tech with full individual light engine control. eager to return and use it again.
I’ve been around the Inifinimats but never set one up myself, but seeing two obviously strong guys struggle to lift it up due to weight has made me think I’m gonna need some help if I ever need to use one 😂 thanks for the video! You need Tim Kang and his magic Assimilate light drawing program next time :)
Happy birthday, Luke! Feliz cumpleaños! They brought in a 30k tungsten soft light for a car shoot on a stage where I worked. It was literally 30 x 1k bi pin globes like you’d use in a Mole Richardson soft or zip light, mounted to what looked like a tent or canopy. . They hoisted it up to the grid on chain motors. They wanted a huge soft source! I wish I could remember the dimensions. It was at least 15’ x30’.
Great video, Luke! And happy birthday! Bummer the firmware wasn't working... would love to see a proper comparison against the Auroris. Any plans to do a comparison video between the two units in the future?
How much of a hassle was it to deflate the “mattress” sufficiently to get it folded back up and into the crate? Time consuming? Yet I think my biggest concern would be chasing punctures or tears after the unit has some use on it. That could turn into a big time sink especially with a slow leak that isn’t evident until you get the unit raised into position. Plus it’s okay to deal with a plastic inflatable in a year-round temperate climate, but what happens in the cold? I very much appreciate the demo, though in the end the Auroris (despite the extra cost) seems to be a much more robust and flexible solution.
What I appreciated about capturing Cisco and Gordon’s realtime interactive discovery of the Infinimat, without prior exposure, was that they were calculating how it would fit their world… mostly without the inflatable. And that didn’t discourage them. They could see it working similar to an Auroris where you pair the emitter blanket with your own goods, separated by a minimal distance. That said, the materials are pretty robust. Punctures are going to happen, especially given it’s a rental house level unit due to its cost and case footprint. But it definitely has possibilities, so I’m looking forward to seeing where it gets plugged in, so to speak😀
@ It’s “interesting” and I expect the color rendering (all firmware issues aside) will be excellent. But that still leaves me wondering how long they had to wrestle with the mattress to get it fully deflated. I just know how much trouble it can be to squeeze the air out of a queen sized blow up mattress sometimes, never mind something 8x8.
The air pump that comes with the Infinimat has an inflate and a deflate side, so it’s actually quite a quick procedure, just not a quiet one… if you are trying to wrap out quietly from an evening set in a residential neighborhood🙂

We’ll see what the new year brings!
At 14 mins, The Hollywood Squares reversed: priceless.

Lmao that was funny af @7:20 looks heavy
is there any grid solution with the blowup mattress?
oops. i see it at the end there. thx
I'm waiting for Aparo or another company to make one for 1/4 of the price.
So we are lighting with air mattresses now??🤣
I’d trade working firmware, for one with issues for an afternoon with Luke any day 😉
Ha, ha!
